  1. One of the worst part of our political system is playing only to the next election. Never thinking about 10-50 years down the line. Just 2, 4 and 6 years at the very best which is far short from keeping a country viable. And it's sickening that right after an election within weeks they are always talking about their next election.
  2. Like a big sucking sound....
  3. And of course that's with the lowest bidder too.
  4. Their QC is probably look at one in a thousand and stamp the rest. No way every one gets tested at some of those prices. I've worked at a govt sanctioned military supplier and each part gets a thorough scouring and inspections. A $100 part turns into a $1000 part because of this.
  5. When you only look at one aspect of the equation ($$) you are bound to get screwed in other ways.
  6. Didn't know we were talking about the trade imbalance. That happens because of protectionism of other countries. It's harder to get into other countries import system than it is to get into the US system and their tariffs are usually much higher than when they sell into our country.
  7. Well I'm always saying the LRG repeater, so it should be understood.
  8. The good thing about mass production is you can lower costs and pass it on. The bad thing is if you have a production issue it runs until someone catches it.
  9. I don't think the main reason is we forgot. The main reason is profit and greed. Environmental regulation here in the US is overwhelmingly expensive to deal with and over there they just don't care. Along with cheap labor and govt subsidies providing benefits to those who export from overseas to the US.
  10. So since I'm IDing, no CW is required. Don't have plans on stranger to stranger use of the repeater.
  11. I like my $25 TidRadios and think for the price they are fantastic. I've had several bad ones because I've bought 14 of them. All replace as easily as making a polite email. I've yet to have a good radio go bad. Only radios that never worked to begin with.
  12. As you can see Randy, I don't care about heads exploding. As a matter of fact it's really fun to watch.
  13. Here's a question. I know that when you set up a repeater for family use only the repeater doesn't need to self ID. And if it's a public repeater with many users it does need to self ID. But what if I have a family repeater and invite someone to use it, basically only to converse with me since we are friends and he won't really be talking to any of my other family members. Since I'm the repeater owner and I ID myself at the required times as well as my friend using his own ID. Does that mean the repeater needs to self ID?
  14. We as Americans pay for the R&D of all the medications and the rest of the world get the real price without that added in along with the patent fees and such. And if this isn't specifically true it certainly seems as if it is. I would think it should be the other way around where the American companies would give it's own citizens the deals and hike the prices on other countries to make up the difference.
  15. It was always a stupid idea to rely on other countries for vital things that we can produce ourselves. Always comes down to greed and not need. This and the next administrations need to follow through and make all vital products and services to be made in the US. The huge transformers that are needed for the major parts of the grid are made overseas and take 2 years to get after you order them. Does this seem like a good strategy?
  16. And Socalgrms complains constantly about cheap chynese radios that have some QC issues. Looks like the big boy have the issues too but no one is going to mention them because they paid big bux for the radio.
  17. dBi numbers are bigger therefore you can sell more antennas.
  18. I was playing around with radio mobile online and notice that their calculations are off because they are using dBi numbers in dB and dBm equations. That's what prompted me to look for a calculator for µV to dBm. t They have it as (46.23-1.3+9.8+9.8-1.6)-132.0=-69.07dBm I believe it should be (46.23-1.3+7.65+7.65-1.6)-132.0=-73.37dBm

  20. Ya, I just got the CA712EFC and the "C" is just a sticker they put on. 1st time I bought the antenna I emailed the company and they said that's the way they do it. 2nd time I ordered the antenna it was the same. No need to email the company, had already been through it.
  21. My non output H3 would transmit for about 1/3 mile to my other H3. But it wouldn't connect to a repeater. So very likely there is output even if it's just from the oscillator in the front end and not the main power output. The radios are sensitive enough to pick up very weak signals. Just not throw them far enough for a repeater to pick them up. But ya, check your tones. With the H3 you can wirelessly clone one radio to the other. So if one works and the cloned one doesn't there is an output issue.
  22. Ya, that can be annoying and nice at the same time. But you have to do it in the right order. If you put the tone in the RX it'll automatically put it in the TX, but you still need to go there and press the blue button to enter it. At that point if you have a split tone you can enter it, but you must put the RX tone in 1st. It you put the TX tone in 1st and then the RX it'll change the TX tone. That was just part of the learning curve on the radio.
  23. Why are you here? You don't seem to like any radios anyone has, only have negative things to say. Do you come here to bish at people because your life is so sad?
  24. It's not an "issue". It's the way it works. Unfortunately it's not in the manual so no one realizes it until they ask questions. It's more of a missing item in the manual.
