  1. Having 2 is nice. You can have one charging while using the other. Swap out when it dies. My 100Ah setup will eventually be a 48 volt system.
  2. If I need battery power I have four 100Ah 12v LiFePO4 batteries. They really hold a charge well. Been at full charge for a couple of months now and basically no depletion. So it's a great standby backup for me. Eventually one or more will get hooked up to my repeater. I also have ten 100 watt solar panels and a 40 amp solar charger that can be deployed at anytime. Again, eventually that'll go up in my backyard and supplement my household.
  3. Surprised it wouldn't put out full wattage. Those packs can put out some good amperage.
  4. It's just a ping. Sends out the phone ID, ratting you out. Yes it would make it harder, but not impossible. Best option is to leave your phone. And while an HT is an open communication it doesn't ID itself or give it's position away easily. You can communicate discretely while not technically legal it gives an alibi.
  5. That might work. Strong signals can leak through those bags. If the cops are operating a Stingray machine it might be close enough to ping the phone in the bag.
  6. Off is not off with a cell phone. It's still pinging unless the battery is removed.
  7. Lithium Ion batteries can be very volatile even with protection systems. Internal shorts can happen with minor damage to the battery and overheat them. Fun is. Glad you weren't hurt.
  8. If it didn't it's burst into flames the 1st time you charged it. They are very prone to thermal run away if unprotected.
  9. Most LiFePO4 batteries can be drawn down completely without harm. The BMS will protect them from discharging too far. You might have to coax the battery to come back to life if the BMS turns it off for low voltage though. Discharging a LiFePO4 fully does reduce it overall life. But it is still going to substantially outlive a lead acid battery by 1000s of cycles.
  10. My KG1000+ draws 8.7 amps according to my digital clamp meter. I was surprised it was lower than 10 amps.
  11. That would be a full violation of the eff sea seas rules/regulations. I can't imagine those breaking the law would decide to use these frequencies illegally and for illicit purposes. They should have their licenses takes away. As soon as you here them ID themselves you should write it down and report them. /S
  12. I tried the tones on that repeater and it didn't respond. I went through the set and still nothing. I don't think it's running anymore. Said it was put into the database 16 years ago, so it may be defunked. Looks like the owners GMRS license had expired in 2011 https://mygmrs.com/license/WQFG755
  13. Man, those green one sure do stand out LOL
  14. I have two of the Apache cases too. The Retevis RT97 repeater setup an a few HTs. All the appropriate accessories under the repeater.
  15. Keep changing it and they'll likely get tired of pursuing it. Most have a hard time programming the tone in with explicit instructions.
  16. I would think the 5 watt HTs are used quite a bit unlicensed. But the owners of the repeaters will want you to have a license to use their equipment. At least if I wanted people using it I wouldn't want unlicensed persons on it. Need to have some basic understanding of radio or at least know how to read, follow instructions so you can program it. That would exclude my wife LOL
  17. Sounds like it's related to the lipstick on the dipstick.
  18. That's what I was saying. He'll charge you big and then only give you decimal points.
  19. Make sure he sells you periods and not decimal points.
  20. Just going up to my sons from CT to NY state in separate vehicles made it nice. Heck, we talked more on the radio than if we were in the same vehicle. I had my mobile in the truck and set up an HT with a microphone and an external antenna for the little lady. Much easier to pick up the mic and talk than it is picking up the phone, dialing, waiting to be picked up etc. I don't think we were ever more than a 1/2 mile apart.
  21. Or your dipstick.
  22. Where were you till 2am? Whose lipstick is on your collar? Why does your phone have a password, are you keeping things from me? Who is Sarah, and why does she keep leaving you messages?
  23. Hmmmmm... Sandwiches made by others. Seems very similar doesn't it. And when you disagree with the establishment they don't take half your stuff.
