  1. Ok so if this is the case my question is are simplex users responsible to check if anyone is using the same frequency on duplex mode?

Several times i am chatting with my friends and i seem to hear someone else riding on my friends signal. I asked if someone want to use the repeater no answer and as soon we got back into our conversation it happends again. So i went to simplex mode and sure thing i heard several station chatting on simplex pretty close to me and I told them that there's repeater traffic on the frequency and they were gentlemanly enough to change channels but normally are the simplex users responsiblity to check before they key up? Frequency is 462.700 (No tones due to privicy and owner requset)

  2. Not Illegal to record traffic on your repeater its actually a good idea. You never know what may occur. As for keying up repeaters to see if it is accessible, I don't have a problem with it. Just when the keying gets way out of hand like keying to agitate everyone, that is when it becomes a problem. There was a software called rf ID alot of repeater amateur radio owners used, that was good. It gives u the ability to ID the keyer or chunker on the input side, and with a sufficient yagi helps you find the direction its coming from.

@Kevsh Thanks for the information but i am not the repeater owner i am just a user on that repeater, however i don't think this individual was checking to see if the repeater is in use.

The reason i say that is because the person keys up while i am in a qso with another station and the station as it was weak into the repeater.

Apprently whoever this person is is just trying to get attention but not while a conversation is going on.

  3. Personally I wouldn’t worry about it. My station doesn’t id. And a famous west coast repeater is still on the air with no action against the owner of the repeater. K6MWT 147.4350 MHz Los Angeles Renegade Repeater.. https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/14747/web If you’ve never listened to it before. Enjoy an education esp during commute time...

I think you are talking about the renegade 2m group in LA?

  4. Just want to verify with everyone here. If a repeater is marked open and when you key up someone on the repeater ask you if you got permission to key up and use the repeater what you do? I asked him to check mygmrs and see that repeater is open but that individual kept insisting that i need permission.

SIDE NOTE:I ALSO ASKED FOR HIS GMRS LICENSE # TO SEE IF HE IS LICENSED USER HIMSELF, BUT THAT INDIVIDUAL AVOIDED MY QUESTION ALL TOGETHER

  5. Well we actually can't blame the radio company but to those who have surplus gears they want to get rid off and they use the flea market to do it. The sad part is that they do not explain the proper use of the radio and thats where the problens lie.

(JUST NOTICED THIS IS A 5YRS OLD THREAD BUT JUST WANT TO PUT MY TWO CENTS IN)
