Why do we need to have callsign on FRS these are license free service. The only issue I have is since the FCC paired the FRS with the GMRS service together I'm hearing them on the output side of the GMRS band and causes unwanted interference. IMO doing that was not the smart thing they (FCC) made (LIKE THEY DO ANYWAYS)
I'm glad you said that in my area there are repeaters that are active, but no one is on there as soon as you transmit the owner/admin of the repeater comes on and this repeater is permission use only or it's private use.
To some of us that are not into Amateur Radios (HAM) these are our hobby you ham operators have your hobby and us GMRS operators have our own hobbies why is so hard for you HAMS to realize that?? It gets me so upset to hear them talking down on GMRS all the time.
YOU HAVE YOUR HOBBIES (HAM BAND) WE HAVE OURS (GMRS)
That's the reason some of these radios are previously used by businesses and may have changed to other form of communications don't tell you that so unsuspecting people will by them without telling them it was a used equipment their buying
It looks to me the frequencies on the left are business itinerant channels some of these radios they do have these frequencies already downloaded as test use only and are not to use as regular chat channels you use them you better have the proper license to use these frequencies otherwise you are violating FCC rules
I totally agree with this comment you have 8 Channels and most of them is very quiet there are times people drives through and uses it to communicate with other groups that there with that's what these frequencies are for communications!!! I monitor 700 (CH 21) and I hear traffic
If you can't give a proper answer, then don't answer the question. I notice these kinds of comments are mostly directed to the new users. Joke or not new users don't think these comments are funny, and I agree with them.
I'm not understanding why the different rating about this radio some tell me is ok to use and others says differently what do you guys think of this radio?
You might want to check if the repeater is using split tones that also may be your problem need to check with the owner if the repeater is programmed that way I have the original Midland MXT 400 which is narrowband I have no issue with Tx the only I need to open the squelch to receive
So far, it's quiet here (only 9:20 am here) but wait until tonight regardless of where you live you will bound to have issue that goes along with elections of any kind, I remember 2020 very well. Cars screeching up and down the block and also idiots firing off their guns and all that it was until the following morning before everything calmed down.
I agree the purpose of this forum is to assist new user and give him/her advice on how to operate their radio the proper way not to shoot down their request for help
You can but I would use unit designations like unit 1 or 2 to minimize any confusion to whoever you're talking to.
And to your second question the answer is yes
Well, it depends what time of the day you're trying to make contact. For us here in California during the day people do have regular work to go to and some they are on the HAM side of things. Most traffic occurs during early evenings and the nighttime. Anyone want to add anything further please do so.
Oh yes, I learned from experience never argue or say anything negative about the repeater you never know that the repeater owner you're asking permission to you to use his repeater might be monitoring the forum.
