I pickup television remote operations audio frequently that broadcast both the TV stations audio and the live reporting stream on a repeater. Not on GMRS though, they run 451.xxx in my area. Maybe you have something similar in your area running on a legacy license or picking up a harmonic on that frequency.

Yes 451 MHz here locally is used by local television stations and also their news helicopters However this signal I'm receiving is defiantly on the 462MHz side.

  2. I'm sure this question has been asked, but is it legal to broadcast Television programs on FRS? I thought it's illegal on all band correct me if I'm wrong.

Every morning I scan all band as a hobby of mine when it came on the 462mhz the scan stops on FRS7(462.7125) and I pick up a faint but readable signal. Not regular transmission but like a program of some sort being broadcasted. What my question is it legal? Thanks in advance.

Hopefully I posted this on the right location if not feel free to move it.

Then stop putting repeaters on top of other repeaters! Simple solution because you don't need more than a few. Here in Southern California we have idiots that need to shut up and allow others to periodically use the frequency. Those are the real issues.

That's what's going on here in the Nothern California area right now. Once you let them on you will never get a word in, they (DMR USERS) will take over the band and render all analog radios useless.

So it’s open but he wants only people who can figure the tones out to use it? I mean I guess if that’s what he wants. Definitely different though.

If you do that it makes sense to list your repeater as a "Permission only" Also as to lessen any confusion if you want people to find your tones just post them so there's no confusion. That's just my 2 cents worth.

Well that is where using this website comes into play. If you are on here looking up a repeater listing, you can request access to a repeater and then will be given the correct tones. The only way to access this stuff on here is to have a valid FCC license. It isn't fool proof but I would say it has a 99% chance of working. The only issue is if the people interfering are smart and have the time, they can take a radio and go through every single tone and figure out which one activates the repeater. I do agree, one bad apple shouldnt ruin it for everyone. But what do you do in this case just short of getting the equipment that locks out radios based on their RF print?

That wouldn't be a bad idea.

I really don't understand how repeaters operate with the calls and usage.  If the Owner hears whats going on I doubt there is much the owner can really do.

Shutting it down would be the real way to end the abuse I would think.

Ok you do that what happens to the other honest people who uses your repeater what about them? You shut them off the repeater use because of a few bad apples who abuses the use of the repeater you wound up losing people to other repeaters in the area.

However, after saying that since you're the owner of the repeater you can do whatever you want to your own machine.

I have DCS (different for TX and RX) tones and have had them for many years now on this repeater. My guess is that these kids are close enough to bleed into the RX side of my repeater to key it up.

Not much I can really do about that other than try to track them down.

Just like someone said earlier, just because you have tones doesn't mean you cant walk on a frequency and interfere with it.

When I heard that the FCC was going to let FRS share the frequency with GMRS I wasn't happy with the Idea of channel sharing, but I decided what's done is done until the FCC approved the power change from 1/2 watt to 2 watts. I didn't understand the reasoning for that, and I knew when they did that all heck would break loose and here it is.

In my humble opinion, hams calling other hams on GMRS defeats the entire purpose of being a ham in the first place. There may be situations where everyone in a group has a GMRS license but not everyone  has a ham license, so hams would be calling other hams on GMRS by necessity, but for me, if everyone in my group is a ham, we stay in our own yard.

That's exactly what I say if you can stay on your own band, it will save a lot of us GMRS user headaches.

  9. It's happening to me also. On GMRS 22 (.725). On Tuesday nights we will have a net here and the unknown station will key up and start interfering with the rollcall.

On several occasions the person/persons will dead keys for the duration of the net, and I hear their carrier over the station trying to check in.

I got to a point where I actually told the station where I was and when I did the station stopped transmitting. Apparently, the person listening lived near me, I did see some kids with radios in hand was running into a house across the street. Now that I know who's throwing dead carriers I know where to look.

Thanks - I can understand not wishing to raise a repeater only to have it taken over for rag-chewing.  I get the idea that a lot of people buy GMRS licenses because paying $35 is the same for either hams or GMRS, but GMRS doesn't require a test.  It sounds as if the people flocking to GMRS are simply looking for an easier way to play radio.  I don't understand why someone who is already licensed as a ham would be attracted to GMRS for that reason.  Maybe these are people who either couldn't pass the test, were too intimidated to try, or it's just easier.  Perhaps the price for GMRS should be raised to $70 again and the price for a ham license be removed? ?

Oh please don't give them any more reasons to change more rules please

Are they announcing their call sign? Could they be using an FRS radio? Reclassified FRS radios can be used for business.

GMRS 21? a shared frequency? I don't think they are using FRS I don't normally pick up FRS traffic. But the station was heard while I was talking to someone on the repeater side. And like I said I had my received tone squelch on and I still heard their signal through the repeater.

  12. Is it legal for businesses to use the simplex side of a GMRS frequency to conduct their business?

I hear a lost prevention department from a store using GMRS ch21 (467.700(?))not sure which store it's from e every time when I talk to someone on the repeater side I hear other traffic in there that I know is from simplex because I have another radio monitoring the same frequency but without the tones. And it interferes with the repeater traffic every time when I try to talk to someone I hear another station in there. And I do have my received tones on.

  13. mygmrs dot com sends weekly repeater updates. Lists all the repeaters per state and details on them. The distances are given, most aren't more than 10 miles.

Not all repeater range on mygmrs repeater listing is correct just f y I to all it's up to the repeater owners to list the correct range of their repeaters and not all of them do that.
