  1. Do you have a speaker mic you can try? Might be able to isolate where the issue is. Or just wipe it and send it back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I’m using the Diamond brand lip mount on the top of my rear CRV door. Been working great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I bought a TYT TH-9800D Plus back in August to put in my car. It was my first one and I just wanted an inexpensive mobile unit to "get my feet wet" until such time I'd upgrade. Chirp has worked great up until a few weeks ago and now I'm getting these error messages. Same radio, same programming cable, same laptop (Toshiba Dynabook, Windows 11). The only difference, as far as I know, is a newer version of Chirp. But even going back and trying an older version of Chirp, I still get the same message. This also appears to only be an issue with Chirp as the TYT and RT Systems software works fine. I just wanted to toss this out there in case anyone else has seen it and found a solution.
  4. I did go back and add the spring as there are some low hanging branches in our neighborhood, but too the pic before adding the spring. Let me see if I can find one. EDIT - went outside and took a couple with spring. Very stable at highway speeds. EDIT 2 - Yes, I know it's a 2M/70CM antenna, but it does work great on GMRS.
  5. Well, here's my $0.02, but it's probably worth about what you're paying for it. I may "upgrade" in the future, but right now I can't get away from the Tid H8. It's a pretty good radio and price point and it just works well. And with a Diamond SRJ77CA antenna I'm getting great transmission and reception. And it works with Chirp.

  7. Lip mount on the rear hatch. Works pretty well.
  8. I also have the Comet CA-2X4SR (PL259 mount) and have been very happy with it.
  9. No, it's a "me" thing. I've had issues in the past where I've had two identical radios and uploaded an image from one to the other and had that one not operate correctly.
  10. Isn't the site and forums two different log-ins?
  11. I have several H8 units and all of them perform just fine. The one thing I don't do is upload a Chirp file from a different H8 radio, even if they are identical. I always download a fresh file from the radio and then copy and paste from another Chirp file. Honestly, I could probably upload Chirp file A to radio B with no issues.
  12. Really good lawyer. That's why their prices are so high.
  13. Well, honestly I'm usually holding a cold beverage in both hands. That way I don't have to get up as often.
  14. Ok, I'm going to throw a little extra fuel on the fire. So if linked repeaters are now illegal, how is this group still in service? https://nggmrs.org/ *Largest GMRS Network in the United States *20+ Area Linked Repeaters
  15. My "ham shack" consists of a chair on my front porch with one GMRS HT radio (locked to GMRS frequencies) and one HAM HT radio (locked to HAM frequencies) and a cold beverage. I can talk on both (which I am properly licensed for) from the same chair.....usually. Might have to get up and move 5 feet for better signal.
