  1. This is a good reason "Friends" should help/show you how, as opposed do it for you. I am sorry for the loss of your friend. sitting down for diner now. If someone has not offered help, I can help with some basics.
  2. Still many users will lower their output according to what is needed. blaring 45 watts to a repeater or a base station with proper A.S.S., is seldom necessary.
  3. I have used a thousand things for other than the original intended use. if it fits your need, you will know.
  4. LOL, I used to balance lift 33' 50plus pound masts in place. LOL@ $10 ha
  5. I would need to see pictures or drawings of your site to even give you an idea. defiantly not the flag pole holder. although I have used similar to hold antenna for temporary mobile set up. I like 1,2, 7, 8 of the first pictures. You just need to decide what will work and how much money you made of.
  6. #7 is very nice , I bet overly priced and # 8 could also work.
  7. 1st pic is a typical tilt over pole hinge, the 2nd one is a DTV mount. I love the third pic. I could build a nice tilt over tower with that. #4 and 5 is for plumbing. #6 looks too lite duty.
  8. That's a loaded question. There are so many clamps, telescoping mast, poles, tripods and such and every situation is different, each operator has specific needs. I have a pile of clamps and hinges from dozens of experiments, is always nice to find the part you need when in the middle of tower work. I found most of my stuff on fleabay and local marine hardware stores. most of the stuff in regular hardware is not advisable for antenna deployment unless it is Stainless steel. Do you have a local CB/HAM shop? not many left I know.
  9. I was having this same problem. I just stopped looking. strange
  10. green means repeater is listed as active, red means it is down for repair. but many listings have not been updated in quite some times.
  11. I would not pass any tone or e-mail address information to the inquiring party. If at their own discretion, one choses to e-mail the sysop of the repeater, the e-mail address of the inquiring party, that should be ok.
  12. You do not have to take a test to get a GMRS license. MyGMRS takes precautions to protect users and repeater owners.
  13. I only monitor our repeater input. I have no idea if others have done such on other inputs. I was not aware of people setting up simplex on the input side, as I recall it is not allowed. I am prepping a radio that should allow me to establish at least one way comms, "Announcement" Hopefully they will respond with some excuse so I know why this happened. I don't expect a response, but maybe they take our travel tone out of their set up.
  14. We have a repeater and for the past 6 months we have been having a group coming up on our Travel tone. We have tried to communicate with them, to inform them their radios are improperly set up, or they are using our repeater when it sounds as simplex would be sufficient, but no answer. Most of their interfering comms are incomplete and they could not be communication effectively through our repeater, which leads us to believe they are conducting simplex comms on the repeater input frequency and using the Travel tone. They are moving marine vessels and sound as they are on the same vessel, which means no repeater is necessary. As I said we have tried to communicate with them through the repeater, So should we try simplex communication on the repeater input frequency with an HT connected to our repeater feedline? We will have to catch them and then shutdown repeater and make connections to an HT already programed for this event. Anyone have any other ideas or comments?
  15. Thank You Rich for your attention to this. We are so fortunate to have you.
  16. No your problem sounds Unique. 4 e-mails should have been answered by now. any database update should have long since past. I am sure someone will be right along.
  17. Look for brands like Cellwave, Sinclair and RFS. USA made only. I just checked fleabay and best mobile deal is 149.00 but I have seen used US made for around 100. I purchased a full size cavity for 150, so you just have to wait for a deal.
  18. you would need access to a spectrum analyzer as well as someone who knows how to use it. this is used to tune the separation between 462.xxx and 467.xxx. I gave mine to a local HAM and he tuned with dummy load. Now I wish to have it tuned in place.
  19. with a control box and a mobile duplexor, you should be able to use a hand held as the RX radio and use only one of the more expensive mobile radios as the TX for it's TX power. could save another 75 to 100, used mobile duplexors can be found on fleabay, around $100. watch out for Cheap Chinese Duplexors. If you are also a Ham, you may be able to get it tuned by another Ham for free, and maybe learn how he does it at the same time.
  20. That's how it's done, build it for your own use and share with others.
  21. using your BF radio set to listen on 467.675 to insure you are actually TX'ing on that specific frequency. I can tell you the MS350r does work on a repeater although at half the distance of a BF uv5r and has a less than desirable sound.
  22. Open repeater initiative. this allows travelers to use the travel tone w/o permission.
  23. If Available always use 911 in case of an emergency. Radio especially GMRS is last line of communications. exception being Marine and Air radio or where cell service is known not to exit.
