  1. I hear caravan's go up and down I95 from time to time. one time sounded like multi wide load convoy. They were not interfering with our repeater and I just listened in. I now have a separate Yagi on a rotor at 23 feet, maybe next time I will attempt to hit them back.
  2. ID unnecessary if users ID them selves and complicated on an open system.
  3. What do you have for antenna height? Obstructions? In most applications the height of antenna is most important. using a ground plane I assume a Mag mount? Although not ideal, it could get you started. Tell us more about your site.
  4. If you chose Direct TV or Dish for your TV service, your Landlord is required by law to either provide a coax with said satellite and service on the roof or another adequate location. This law also protects UHF/VHF TV antennas. Many persons install TV antennas, then replace them with radio specific antennas at a later date. The law is Access to communications Act. or something similar.
  5. this is made for quick deployment in a rental car or for car to car. not bad for some use, notice the very thin coax. still with the ground plane of your bonnet, could improve your range dramatically. I would not use this on your window unit AC as there are better options if you have the access. I know that window AC unit's in NYC must be inspected. Depending on your floor, I would look for access on the roof and do a window drop, just like they do with satellite TV.
  6. You could take your HAM exam and get a ticket. HAM's are famous for helping each other out. Lot's of knowledge and sometimes good manual labor. But you will need to engage in the social network. It takes time. Sure you can hire professional communications guys, but you will need deep pockets.
  7. I spoke too soon, they are back. Setting up, a temporary simplex radio and will make another announcement on the input freq.
  8. Good to hear you are getting back into the game. I will be rootin for ya. Yes, it looks as if our uninvited visitors have reprogrammed and or moved along. We are in our heat and rainy season, so I am prepared they may have just left the area for cooler weather, we will have to see. Will be awesome having your input here at MyGMRS, Best regards mate...
  9. for listen only just enter the output frequency of the repeater into your radio, and listen away. 462.*** there is nothing else to it. as you listen and study you will learn how to make the hand set repeater ready, with tones and an off set. When you do get permission or are ready, Please do not kerchunk the repeater over and over. Please do, identify your self and ask to conduct a radio check. Best of luck.
  10. Search Youtube for videos, every video you will need should be there. Try different search strings.
  11. frequency, PL/CTCSS or DSC/DPL tone, Offset +/-, MHZ of offset ie: +5000 for GMRS, There are many tone combinations for repeater access, the radio manufacture can not pre-program for every repeater possibility.
  12. Try search string, :programing 2 way radio for GMRS Also try searching :common radio acronyms Consider watching "Youtube" videos with the same or similar search strings.
  13. There you are. I am hopeful this issue is resolved, has been close to a month since this group has interfered. When the party would start their comms. I would shut down the repeater and use my height and yagi antenna to hone in on their general direction. I Then made several public service announcements. I have not even heard them on the input at all. so they either out to sea or they got the message. I hope you are well, William, Best Regards
  14. no it's is a "repeater" and is 50 watts. there is so much confusion of these classifications and associated numbers. I am not even sure my self what particular radio configuration is limited to 15 watt's, I could see 15 watt's for a fixed mobile install. 25 to 50 watt's for a fixed base or repeater.
  15. After market Manufactures offer secondary battery platforms for some automobile makes. Like the crown vic. but you can also find user modifications on Youtube. it is easier in full size trucks. more space and some diesel battery mods fit the gas models and makes for a clean install.
  16. If you are having issues starting the ICE after heavy radio use, you should consider a secondary battery for radio and other AUX devices. this set up would include a deep cycle battery, a battery isolation circuit, a low voltage disconnect and an additional fused distribution panel. CCA batteries are not good for continuous use when ICE is not running. CCA batteries are made to crank for a few seconds and maybe glow plugs and then the Primary ICE charging system kicks in and supplies all the voltage. Using a CCA batteries for long periods damages the battery and will require frequent replacements.
  17. CCA batteries are meant for short burst of amps for "cold Cranking Amps" you should have a Deep Cycle battery with a proper battery isolator and a separate "Low voltage disconnect" and fuses for your radio and Aux equipment.
  18. what ever fault blew your finals, If still present will just blow them again. Check every connector, every inch of feedline and have the duplexor hooked to a frequency counter to check it's status. As has already been said, slightest bump can change tunning and sensitivity.

    Btech GMRS V1

Manufactures, have been slow to adopt and I am sure most question the financial benefit of such investment. I am glad pofung/baofeng did.

    Btech GMRS V1

Baofeng/Pofung makes good solid radios, this particular radio is designed to be GMRS Part 95 certified and I believe is a very wise choice for a beginner.
  21. NOAA radio or just NOAA alerts? straight up cross banding NOAA could be considered broadcasting, and that is not allowed. However Transmitting a 1 to 2 min. alert followed by Official NOAA instructions could be legal. I find it redundant as NOAA sends out a very powerful signal, no need to splatter another channel of another band.
  22. I used to be able to see the USA map with all the repeaters circles appearing as you close in to an area. Seems it was over a year ago or longer. now I am only able to see a single repeaters circle at a time, not sure what changed.
  23. I used this antenna for a couple years. exceptional omni performance. I think it is non-tunable, but comes pre-tuned for 467. It comes collapsed connected by coax that slides inside as you assemble it. It flexes quite a bit in 30 to 40 miles winds, I would expect damage in winds exceeding 60mph. I can not give a better recommendation for an omni as decided to switch to a yagi and a rotor.
  24. Not sure how to get the repeater to TX on the input freq. so I use an HT connected to the repeater antenna. they are still on mostly every day and no reply or change in their radios use.
  25. I do not know your particular radios. but you should consider CHIRP programing software. Is included in many if not most linux distros and is a free download for windows products. When you obtain your repeater info, you will understand the repeater listens on 467 and Transmits on 462 that is the common repeater off set. so your radio should be set to listen on 462 and transmit on 467. a PL or Dpl/DCS tone may be used to activate the repeater, you may also use this or another tone to limit noise of other users on different tone. Make sure you are within range of said repeater and use a mobile or roof top antenna for better results.
