Gosh. Some people just gotta slow down. I promise there is more to life then gmrs repeaters. Just take a few breaths and relax for a few days. If this frustrates you that much you have other issues going on. Gmrs isn’t even all about repeaters. What do you need the repeaters for anyway? Chatting with strange men?

Omg. I have been waiting for this for decades. Ever since the first gmrs can and string I have been waiting to program my junky radios with chirp. I’m sooo glad this is out. Now if I ever get my hands on a working woxoun 935H I know I can program it with chirp. I’m taking the rest of the day off the celebrate.

So gmrs is a radio service designed to be used by friends and family while doing an activity. What activities do you do? With whom do you do them with? It’s not for talking to random dudes on the air. So no one is going to talk with you on simplex most likely. As for the registration for the site. It’s going to take a bit. Your call sign has to clear all of the fcc then clear this site. You have been without repeaters your whole life a few days or even a couple weeks isnt going to hurt you. Too much instant gratification expectations. Now if you used gmrs correctly you would have friends or family to talk to while doing an activity and therefore you would already be able to do a radio check and be out in the world using your radio as designed The FRS radios will talk simplex with your rig so you can do radio checks. If a small bump in the road has you not excited any more I’d say you have more issues going on then not having repeater tones. Learn to slow down. Life is about the journey not the gmrs repeaters.

I know the cross dresser won’t agree because he like them cheap but toss the retivis in the nearest dumpster. but I am confused what is a plus negative .5 offset.
-
Wow. . That really complicates things a whole lot. Another solution looking for a problem. Just set it and talk. What’s the big deal. It’s sooo simple. Gmrs is supposed to be so simple a 90yr old great great grandma can do it. Why complicated it even more. My dad who is not tech savvy at all uses and programs gmrs every day. It really doesn’t take pages and graphs to understand for any one with 1/2 a working mind. And if you have a gmrs certified radio it’s even easier with less head ache.

Pretty sure you already asked in a previous post that people replied to.

Nope no issues at all. Like already said if you want a repeater then it will only be gmrs. But if it’s simplex (radio to radio) then all is good. We have one of our local mountain emergency groups is mostly FRS. It’s mostly older folks that won’t be able to self evac in a fire or snow storm and the cells and line lines go down all the time so the group got together and every one purchased an FRS or gmrs (and license) radio and they can communicate in the community and out to the rest of us if they need help of any kind. A 91yr old sweet lady also runs a weekly simplex net.

I’m here I’m here queen dude cross dresser guy gal. Sounds like you’re crushing on me. I don’t go that way. and yes this is another perfect example why the midland radios are trash. I mean what did they cost? And the uv5r out does them? When will people learn. “well I paid to much for them so I’ll just accept they dont work right?” If it’s off frequency then it’s not a gmrs radio right? So why am I, what ever you said, when the facts are in my favor once again. I mean I dont make a living sitting in my basement petting radios but I’m pretty sure I can see all the bad reports of the over priced radios that don’t work out of the box.

Antenna Wiring - Outback 2020 - A Useful Find
Socalgmrs replied to WSEN940's topic in General Discussion
You had me untill the ghost antenna down low. But good on you about not molesting the car. Most cars that have roof racks have holes under the feet of the rack. -
Every farm/ranch I know has a repeater and they use it daily. I use a few repeaters each and every day for all types of reasons. But why would a general person or ranch want strangers or other business on their repeater? To what end? Gmrs is for using while doing something. If a group of people need a repeater they should put one up. I know a few white water rafting company’s that have repeaters on the river since it’s a deep canyon and simplex doesn’t work so well. Many of the skii places have gmrs repeaters on the top for winter skiing and summer biking and hikers. Same with many of our local neighborhoods, hunting clubs, off road parks and even some race tracks But I would not really want randos chit chatting on any of them. Especially dudes that call them selves queens. with the price of professional used repeaters being less then $400 it’s not a huge expense for a group to put together.

Comet 712efc because it doesn’t need tuning, hears everything and tx over 200miles and its only $40 more then other junk

There is a man on ebay that sells cables. He will also send you a zip file for cps. You will most likely need a 32bit win 7 computer. I got a good used dell lap top off eBay for $100. It looks and runs like brand new and switched over to Motorola exclusively now for all new radios. A professional 50w radio for $150? Or 25w for $100. Why buy anytning else.
-
Why why why use a cruddy retivis when a 40w Motorola can be had for less than 1/2 the price. The hen you wouldn’t even have $1000 into it. Probably not even $750 total.
-
Yuck. I’d never buy them.

Radioddity & Retevis - Return process broken [updated]
Socalgmrs replied to Wayfarer's topic in General Discussion
I’ll beat this drum forever. Don’t buy that garbage from any retailer. Retivis and radioditty are just junk as witness but the constant and continuous problems noted just in this site let alone others. This is another reason to ad to the list. Why oh why would any one continue to buy them. -
Just adapt it.

The REAL fun for me is what I’m doing while using gmrs. It’s not the distance I can get or the strangers I can meet. As far as 100-200miles, it Pretty common for me. Happens every single day, rain or shine for my self and every gmrs operator in the valley. 100miles is nothing and over 200miles for most operators 365 days a year. No special weather required. Again it’s all about line of sight. I highly recommend to all, get out and do fun stuff. There is more to life than gmrs radio. n this whole site very few people talk about all the fun stuff they use gmrs for. It’s mostly, why does my junky radio not work, how do I connect to a repeater to find strange men to talk to, why is my Ed fong antennaa not working, Cam some one read the fcc rules so I don’t have to…… very very few talk about activities and how they actually use gmrs in real life. Get out the basement.
-
So there is an old thread on this site that asks this exact same question a few months back. Maybe start there with a basic look a round or search. I quick search I. The work wide web would also tell you before asking strangers. However, The answer is, what do the fcc rules say. You should look things like this up for your self before asking strangers. When you purchased your license you told the fcc that you read and fully understood all the rules pertaining to gmrs. Did you just click through and not read anything? If you actually had spent time reading, that then you would know the rules. I will say that simplex has the fcc rules BUT repeater owners or clubs can ask for more than the fcc. So I highly recommend you familiarize yourself with the fcc rules you should already know.
-
I’d never spend $10 on any midland product. Yuck.
-
This whole thread amazes me. I had zero trouble. It took like 10min total all on the first try. But I read instructions before I start something. An average adult witu basic skills should be able to use the fcc web site no problem. What is wrong with people.
-
Swr below 2 is fine. Sorry to here about the midland but yes on most radios the actuall wattage is less buy 10% or more then advertised
-
Well quicker then You typed this question you very easily could have searched the World Wide Web and gotten an answer. In this world with this much info at your finger tips there is no excuse to be ignorant of anything. Just take the time to research it your self first.

I built a repeater out of (2) Retevis RA87 40W Mobile Radios
Socalgmrs replied to WSHF963's question in Technical Discussion
I just can’t…… tuning, type of coax, antenna, programming…. Retivis radios….. so much could be wrong here. -
Accessing a repeater with my Wouxon KG-935+
Socalgmrs replied to WSHG703's question in Technical Discussion
You’re gonna need to learn what frequencies relate to what “channels”. The radio should have come with a chart. When you purchased your license from the fcc you did say you read and understood the gmrs rules. If you did read the rules you said you did, you would know what channels relate to what’s frequencies. You can also do an internet search of gmrs frequencies I’d also highly recommend you program on a computer it’s waaay easier. -
Wow 30miles? That’s a HUGE coverage. Hehe
