  1. Well if you read what was written I said USED so no they will NOT be affected at all Not one penny. I’ve never paid more than $150 for a 50w professional radio.
  2. So define “big”. A 25% teriff on a $20 radio is $5. Not big in my book but ok. Now if your one of those guys that loves to spend $450 on a ccr then yea an extra $112 could be considered “big”. now. If your one of those guys that runs used Motorola/kenwood radios it won’t affect you at all.
  3. Well first it does not matter repeater or simplex. The radio is going to transmit the same to a repeater or simplex. Second it’s line of sight. You can’t see Hawaii from the west coast. The earth is round. But a 5w hand held has talked to the space station. My $20 5?w hts do 50miles simplex each and every day. And 100miles or so to the local repeater (only more miles because it is up 2000’ higher and on a mountain. so how far a 5w ht can go is limited by line of site long before miles.
  4. get upset all you want people. BUT another example of radiotitty radios not working right! This should come as no surprise for any one that listens to me. I know no one likes to hear it buuut it’s happening AGAIN! I’m sure I’m wrong.
  5. To accomplish this with out the internet the second repeater would have to be on different frequencies then the normal “pairs”. Not gonna happen under gmrs rules. However this can be done with ham. How far are you trying to get? Most of the repeaters in my area are getting 100-200 mile radius. That means 2 radios can be up to 400miles apart and talk no problem. I’d concentrate on getting 50 watts to the coax, (many/most duplexers take 1/2 the wattage before the coax) and a good antenna up high before spending money on a whole new repeater set up.
  6. Very nice. Good antennas would certainly help your situation even more but at 120 miles your getting about 10xs the distances others get. Most guys on here call me a lier when I tell them I do well over 200miles every day with a 20w base radio and 60-100 with hand helds. It’s all about line of sight.
  7. The fcc does not prohibited data on gmrs. It’s about amount of data, If it did the gps gmrs radios would not be legit.
  8. Wait wait from the title of the post “If I program 2 radios identically to hit a repeater, why can't they talk to each other?” if your programmed on a repeater channel the radios never talk to each other. Radio A talks to the repeater and radio B listens to the repeater. If your not hitting the repeater with radio A then radio be will never hear radio A on radio B
  9. I have never in over 30 years of having soft top jeeps and all manner of old and new cars ever had a radio stollen from a vehicle and I grew up in a Los Angeles ghetto. Now I live in the country and don’t even lock the doors of roll up the windows. No one wants a gmrs radio. You can’t even sell a $450 woxoun for $50 in the used market. If it’s that big of a deal just put a towel over it. Out of site out of mind.
  10. If you have never used a good radio for less then 1/2 the price and get your info from gimmicky advertising then it guess it’s ok. Especially if you like wasting money.
  11. Sure a 6.5” 12g wire with a ring terminal inter the antenna will help but I never found it helps enough. I just use 771 antennas and have no issues with tx distance. With a short and stubby antenna they do help somewhat.
  12. TOTALLY wrong. Completely depends on the repeater owner and what they set. Many of our local repeaters have a dcs tone for in and a ctcss for out. Some of the others use digital only. So I wouldnt say most Maybe most of the ones you know of In your area.
  13. What is a repeater kick back? Never heard of that and I use repeaters every day. Second I’m betting your tones are. It correct or your not close enough to the repeater. You wo t be heard on other radios u less the repeater gets your transmission.
  14. It amazes me how the same question gets asked atleast every week. Does not one do research first? Does no one look into gmrs BEFORE getting a license? In the time it took to ask the question here, one could have done a google search and tried to help your self.
  15. I carry my radio in my hand, pocket, belt clip, holster, cup holder, dash mount, saddle bag, charge cradle, ……The list goes on. But never found I could use the radio very well if it’s in a box or bag or put away in some way.
  16. Yup. Thats what I have found. Dmr is on its way out in my neck of the woods.
  17. That’s interesting. I build cj5 cj7 and cj8 jeeps for a living. I’ve always found they have waaaay more room in them for radios than modern junks.
  18. I’m gonna get run over and flammed but I use radios every day. All day 7days a week for 12 hrs a day. I had woxouns. They always get the worst signal reports. They are expensive and really have no better features then any one else. The big gimmick is mark from Huntington Beach califonia pre programs them with all kinds of useless frequencies that most people don’t need or want. To me woxouns are not worth the hype. Woxoun retivis radiotitty midland and rugged all belong in the dumpster. If you’re gonna spend $150 or so you can buy a kenwood or Motorola. If you want a sub $50 radio that does just as good or better there are many other options as well. Now, some cross dresser ex hand model that calls him self queen will come out of his basement to yell at me and call me names. However I’m not the one making money from gmrs radios. I just use them all the time.
  19. Yes it will. That’s how it works.
  20. You just said off set is programmed so is it or not? How do you know you’re not hitting the repeater? How far away are you? What radio are you using? Do you have line of site? If your programmed right and your close enough your gonna hit it. For more help your gone have to post a screen shot of your set up.
  21. I scan 1-22 and repeaters I use every day. I do t really scan anyway. I don’t do scan groups. I do however leave the radio on the 2 channels I use all day. 1 simplex and one repeater. Why any one needs to create multiple scan groups I don’t understand. Gmrs scenario, you meet up with people to do an activity, you agree on a simplex with our with out tones and or a repeater. You proceed to do the activity. Thats it. That is gmrs. It’s not complicated at all. What are you scanning for? Randos on the highway with tones set? Construction sites with tones set? Or what else is so important that you need to listen to other randos radio traffic.
  22. So I’m going to get blasted like I always do but the h3/h8 seam to have the worst reputation. And I tend to agree. On this site alone it seams weekly some has a big problem with one. Just take a look around. That weirdo dude that calls himself a queen always disagrees and recommends them all the time and therefore people keep buying them but I have seen in person about 1/2 of them are dead out of the box or close to it. After being in radios and using them every day all day long, talking to hundreds or people in real life and reading this and other sites it seams to me the H3 may be the worst hand held ever made. With the h8 right behind it(it’s just fatter so it can’t run as well) Tid, radioditty, retivis, midland and rugged should be looked at the the plague. blast away people but take a good hard look at this site and the other gmrs and ham sites.
  23. The antenna on the house will get you about 10x further than the hand held in your hand. So yes it’s worth it. A comet 712efc is a great antenna at 10’ tall and 9db gain. With a 4w ht mine easily does 100 miles. But like already said do you have people around you to talk to? Repeaters local? Do you have family and friends that you use gmrs with while doing an activity? What is your reason for getting into gmrs?
