  1. I would like to drive your car for a road trip next month. Make sure its full of gas, has the oil changed, 4 new tires, a/c is freshly recharged. When i return it with two flat tires, the transmission slipping, dents and scratches all over it, busted tail lights and 5 parking tickets in the glove box dont be upset because It's totally and utterly foolish and breaks every terrestrial and celestial boundary of human stupidity to pay drive my own car on a road trip Do all GMRS operators lack creativity and self awareness?
  2. Maybe at this point you may need an intervention, maybe.
  3. Its funny how "some people" using the internet that is free to use while paying an internet service provider hundreds of dollars a year, to access said internet will complain about paying less than $100 a year to access a privately owned repeater.

  5. The public frequencies are free. You can transmit on simplex without incurring a charge using the hardware you own. If you want to use a privately owned repeater then you either need to have permission from the owner or pay the membership fee / dues of the club. Complaining that a privately owned repeater should be free to use is just plain dumb. Would you let a stranger off the street drive your car on public streets because it free to drive on public streets. if you're upset about it, go set up your own repeater and open it to the public.

  7. yes but its not clearly written and I was not able to find much as far as setting for the RA87 online. some reviews here and there and some tutorials on how to set two up as a repeater but not much else. @WSHM765 Press the "FUN" button on the face then the "MHZ" button on the face and scroll to "MDF" its "menu #16" press the "MHZ" button on the face again turn the dial to"MN" then press the the "MHZ" button on the face to lock it in. you have to do it to both "sides" of the display.
  8. Its not just the Chinese...
  9. Use chirp, the retevis software is almost as as bad as trying to program the radio from the face. Took me about 15 mins with chirp to program 80 channels. On the "left" and "right" https://chirpmyradio.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home

  11. Grommet and some silicone on my forester. Survived the great California storms of 2025 with zero water intrusion. Easy to plug if i ever need to remove the antenna. Wire then runs under the factory roof rails.
  12. My wife and I use our local repeaters pretty regularly for chit chat. Just remember everyone is listening...
  13. I have the UV-5G and when we replaced the rubber ducks with the abree 18 inch we saw an increased range more than double on simplex channels in the suburban area and when using repeaters we are a lot more clear. Happy with $25 HT and the $18 antenna. Maybe one day i will buy one of those big boy radios but for now, dont need it.
  14. Do you even understand the purpose of GMRS? Like you said its a "Community repeater for users in that community" NYC is not in the Calif community. Why would I be in NY and want to be talking to people back in Ca on GMRS via LTE, satellite, cellular or any other means of transmission? By having anytime access reguardless of distance from that repeater you defeat the principle of "community" and thats exactly what you are trying to open the door to. Whats to stop the guy in NY whos not part of the California community from comming on here looking up a repeater in California and jumping on it on your system? There are only 8 repeater frequencies in the GMRS band and there is already a problem with users creating interference and jamming frequencies on purpose locally, i dont want to imaging the $hit storm that could be if GMRS repeaters were available nationwide to that. What you are proposing is already available on other bands and not GMRS. GMRS was designated for local use and not nationwide like other bands for a reason and your proposal completely misses that.
