  1. Great! Looking forward to hearing what you have to say about them, particularly the 575!
  2. Hey @OffRoaderXwhen might you get your hands on an MXT575 to test? Any luck with that? I'm hoping Midland turned the corner and shocks us with a home run on this! I had an Mxt275 and loved the hand unit and speaker volume but ran into its limitations and moved on. But I'd love it if the 575 fixes all that made the 275 fall short. I replaced my 275 in my Jeep with a KG-1000G but just don't love mounting solution (yes, even with the remote faceplate) compared to the 275. The KG-1000G performs better, thoiugh, but the speaker(s) just don't cut it, so I added an external, which complicates all the mounting even more. The simple 275 was PLENTY loud with both speakers firing and the quality of the handset is light years ahead of the Wouxun or anything else, which feel really cheap.
  3. What sold me was the toilet test. Nothing to do with the radio, just that scene! ??
  4. I didn't even see color. What is it on the menu? That'd be great if we can change the color!
  5. Anyone know if the screen backlight can be dimmed? It's just too bright for my liking at night. I've gone through the manual many times and cannot find anything about adjusting it.
  6. Does the length of the coax cable have an effect on transmission or reception, or even SWR?
  7. I settled on a mounting configuration for the Wouxun KG-1000G. I bought a tiny stainless steel cooling rack off Amazon and zip tied the head unit to it, then mounted it on top of the seat latch handle under the driver seat. The rack was orignially intended to keep it up off the carpet to let air get to the underside to aid in cooling, but it made it easy to secure the radio to the handle. I then wired it up and tucked the wires away and installed the faceplate on the center RAM ball on the dash tray. It works great! I like having the face plate be somewhat a part of the center stack in the dash. It makes it easy to manipulate the radio controls without looking too far down into the cockpit. I think I'm going to add an external speaker and put it somehwere close to my ear. The mic and head unit speakers are ok, but I'd like them to be a little louder, especiall in the summer when the doors are off. When not in use, the mic goes where the cb mic is and the cb mic moves over. I haven't driven around using it much yet, but with what little I've done, I really like it, so far.
  8. That worked! Thank you so much!!!
  9. I had been playing around with settings and repeater tones and decided to do a reset. I apparently mistakenly assumed it would do like my Radioddity DG25G and just reset factory defaults. Now all I see are frequencies starting with 144.xxxx and no GMRS programming. Did I wipe it out? What do I need to do to restore factory settings? Unfortunately, I don't have a Windows PC, so if I have to reprogram with the Wouxun software, I'll have to find a friend to help. Any help would be appreciated!
  10. Thank you, gentlemen! I went ahead and used the same code for both, so I'm going to try it out when I get a chance. I appreciate the help for a newbie!
  11. Found it. So when the repeater owner says DPLxxx, does that mean the DCS code is for both transmit and receive, or just transmit? I'm assuming he means both, but am not sure.
  12. Great! I'll look now. Thank you!
  13. I'm getting ready to try and use repeaters. I'm playing around with a Radioddity DB25-G and want to get onto a couple repeaters for which I have received permission to use. I've been given the tone as DPLxxx (I'm keeping the numbers for xxx private). I don't see any chart listing DPL codes in the manual, so I'm clearly missing something. So how do I enter the DPL code to access the repeater?
  14. I had one that did the same thing. It transmitted for awhile then quit. I think it still transmitted on the FRS low power frequencies, IIRC, but not on the high power channels. I bought it for around 100 bucks and then sold it for parts on Ebay for around 75 bucks. I know it wasn't transmitting because I reset factory defaults, checked codes, etc.
  15. Thank you! One more quick question, and hopefully the radios are the same or similar in this way, too....When I'm seeing the 4 frequencies on the screen (not quadmonitoring, but just ABCD) when I'm on one channel, sometimes the others, B, C, or D, turn green (factory default settings for color). What does that mean? Does it mean they are picking up transmissions while they are green? I haven't seen enough of a pattern to clue me in on what exactly is happenign when they turn green while I'm monitoring another. I've quickly switched over and heard nothing. Thanks for the help!
  16. How do you activate this function where you can monitor up to 4 channels at the same time? I'm missing it somehow in the manual. (I am not a fan of their manual, btw.) I just installed this radio in my old Jeep and am trying to figure out how to configure it in different ways that I might like to use it. Thanks!
  17. I will add that I think you gave sage advice if cost/gmrs performance are the same or similar. Then why not go dual band? But one nice thing about a GMRS antenna is that I never had to mess with SWR. It was good right out of the box. Not sure that would be the case with dual band.
  18. I use a Midland GMRS antenna and have had little trouble getting NOAA broadcasts in remote areas when I need them. I wouldn't give that much consideration unless NOAA was a priority.
  19. I've got 2 Jeeps, a JK and a JL, and 2 different radios, although the antenna setups are exactly the same. The JK just got a new Radioddity DB-25G and I'm really pleased with it, so far. It is mounted front and center so the speaker is nice and loud. I've got a mic hanger for it to the right. I just need to swap the CB mic mount to the type that came with the radio. I've got what I believe is a Rugged Radios mount for a Midland 6db GMRS antenna. Both Jeeps have that antenna and mount in the same location. It keeps the A-pillar auxillary lighting from reflecting off the antennas. I can't see the antenna at all in either Jeep from a normal driving position, which is perfect. The JL currently has a Midland MXT275, which I've really loved, but I'm switching to a new Wouxun KG1000G for more power and wideband. I'm just figuring out where/how to mount it. The CB, btw, is a Uniden and it has a Cooltech mount on the tailgate tire carrier. It works really well. The only downside is that the mic speaker isn't as loud as I'd like it. But it lets me communicate with the many Jeepers who still only run CB, as well as truckers on the highway to and from the trail.
  20. How loud is the mic speaker? I've got a similar setup in my JL, including the Garmin Overlander! (I have a Garmin camera I mounted on the front bumper, too. The Overlander lets you correct the image (reverse it) and the tire lines can be adjusted to help with placment when off-roading). Did you mont a RAM ball on the back of the faceplate of the KG1000-G? Nice setup, btw!
  21. I'm looking for ideas on where to mount the Wouxun KG-1000-G faceplate in my Jeep. (Or the entire unit, depending on how/where). It is JL Wrangler. Right now, I'm looking to mount the base under the passenger seat and just put the faceplate somewhere convenient. Does anyone have a setup they'd like to share? Is the microphone speaker loud enough, or do I want the base mounted where its speaker can help out? I'm going to play with some ideas today, but wanted to see what others have done that they think works well. Suggestions are appreciated!
  22. I received the radio yesterday! Hopefully, I can decide the mounting arrangement in my Jeep and get it up and running this weekend.
  23. I was able to reach them in a chat today. They said they expect a shipment before the end of September and anticipate my order will be filled soon. Thanks!
  24. Have you fired that thing up yet? If so, how do you like it? I've heard the speaker is really loud, which is appealing to me as it would be in a noisy Jeep.
