Yes, Sir. We went there specifically to run Bee Line.  It was a great trip.  We will be back on August 9 for a club trip.  I am heading back to Uwharrie in October.  I am going to try to hit Good Evening Ranch soon, too.

Cool. Looking forward to getting the wheels dirty in PA. First week of October is Uhwarrie JJ so will be there for that one as well. We have busy summer with events. SMJI is in August so will be there, then October have 3 JJUSA trips planned and Windrock for hopefully November.

  2. The radio is going out of lock most likely. There is a slim chance you could retune the vco if you have a service monitor and manual but sometimes there are componants that need changed as well. As suggested best bet is to sell the unit and get one in the lower split.

  3. I have yet to see a mobile radio in a race car. Every radio I have seen is a portable with an antenna adapter. I dont know if indy or F1 is different but at least in the nascar world its all portables. Rarely do you even see a mobile in a safety truck either. If you are doing a mobile I'm with others get a quality LMR radio with limited functions.

  4. I only run the larsen NMO now and for the price you can't beat the mount. Spend a few bucks more and get a quality mount. If you plan to keep a vehicle this mount will outlast most.

Center of roof on truck will be great with a 1/4 wave

With the XTL series you can two control head..  you have to obtain a special cable and program it properly.  The option is designed for special applications like fire trucks

The XTL allows up to 4 control heads per deck. Ive installed up to 3 on a radio in a command post/mobile communications unit. Many ambulances and firetrucks have 2 heads, one in cab and one in rear. There was a special cable (SP) made to allow control of 2 decks from one W3 head but was specific to three letter agencies. Some have made it to the public but they were not higely used.

THE APX series allows dual deck or multi head or both.

  6. Most of the large race teams have licenses for the system. My system in my jeep cost around that price with 2 headsets, headset jacks and radio. I dont run TRBO but have my VHF or UHF tied in on that jeep. Not sure if he is using a LMR system to give him long range or not but know some folks that subscribe to a LMR system to give them range and distance on RF.

On a side note just got home from Windrock Park this weekend for our first JJUSA event of the year. Have 4 this year on top of other events. Was great to get in the woods and actually tested my new starlink mini in the jeep on the trails. Worked as expected but was nice to sit and lunch and upload some photos and videos while everyone else was out of service.

I'm talking about any radio.  I still hear lots of guys tell me they need to hook up to their computer to put in new tones.  Lots of older Motorola radios still out there.

Thats due to the fact to part 90 FCC certification the radio can't have the ability to do that. Many of us that use LMR gear utilize a MPL configuration (PL/DPL List) that is selectable. My work radios have FPP for conventional stuff but thats ordered with appropriate documentaiton. On the hobby side all my midlands allow me to pick what tone I may need when I want from the head or panel. 99% of the GMRS users dont ever change stuff so once you set it you dont change it again. I dont think ive touched my parents radios since they were installed. All depends on use case.

Canadian Government is not the brightest star on this earth.    I'm sure this has happened from some hilly billy cities in the U.S. but i would think very rare.  In any case, the Comms guys in charge should be fired for letting radios out into the marketplace without wiping them

This happens in the US all the time. Tons of radios get bought on governemtn sites or other markets that are still full of stuff. Granted your correct it should get wiped but doesn't alwasy happen. But I can say its also not too hard to add a system if you have a radio as this person did above. This was disacussed heavily on other forums and just like here, people helped him do what he did. Its no different than all the folks here telling new users how to use HAM radios on GMRS or other non GMRS radios on GMRS. "no one will get caught" is what I see all the time. Same stuff gets said on putting public safety stuff in legacy part 90 radios. If everyone would simply not help these folks most of this would not happen, or happen way less. But as others say...you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube at this point...

Not on mine. That's the problem. The software I downloaded from BTech seems extremely rudimentary. For example, there are only 16 channels. Period. Supposedly, you can store up to 800 frequencies and scan them. There's no way to do any of that with this software.

Isn't this a repeater ? If so there is no need for 800 frequencies. 99% of the time a repeater is on one channel and one channel only.
