Let's hope so. As for Baofengs being "extremely poor quality", I think there are thousands of Boafeng owners that would argue that point. They are not the same quality as the flagship brands, but for the price differential, you would not expect that. However, you do get what you pay for, and sometimes, you are surprised and you get a little more than that. I think Baofengs fall into that category, at least in my experience.

Dang. You still have an open mall? All the ones in my general vicinity have declared bankruptcy. You might not have to do anything but give it a couple more months.

Out here in the southwest - we're *super* friendly (everybody's a friend when you're in the desert...) , and we make it a point to personally welcome folks to GMRS and let them know that it's ok - we all have "mic fright" at first, and it'll wear off soon enough, and people will get to know your callsign in time. It's how we roll in these parts. Callsigns are basically treated as calling cards - you can announce your callsign followed by "monitoring"  - if your friends are out there, they'll respond.

Not knowing what kind of radio you're using, or the exact style of headset you prefer, I'd point you over to Impact Communications & tell you to browse through what they've got available. I'm thinking you can buy directly from their store even without being a dealer if you use a credit card.
 
Their quality is pretty good, the pricing is decent, and their service and selection is better than you'll find at any of the "big box" online stores. When I go searching for audio accessories, Impact is my first stop if I can't find what I need through OEM.

Klein is another option - and they have some Bluetooth options that other manufacturers don't carry. I'd recommend Impact over Klein.  http://www.kleinelectronics.com

Eh, I think not. The UV-5X are CHIRP programmable, so you can manipulate the pl tones as you see fit and set the FM mode to narrow or wide. Doesn't sound like a design flaw to me, but rather a quite flexible design.

Just started to set up my Radioddity GD-77 this weekend.  I've only added a local repeater and did add TG310 but have yet to hear anything.  Very new to DRM so still figuring out keying up to active a group??ect...ect... and just plain how to use the software for my radio.  I have gotten a contact so I'm doing something right...lol  
 
I'm cutting out on the repeater too so I need to get an antenna on the roof for this HT.

I am not programming Kenwoods, but I use Chirp in native Ubuntu. I had a similar error and it was a 2-step fix.
 
1. Instead of using a TTY com port, I scrolled down to the bottom and selected USB0.
 
2. I had to add my userid to the dialout group.
    sudo usermod -aG dialout username (replace username with your own)
 
I try to stay away from Windows, even Wine, as much as possible.

The Wouxun KG 1000g uses a superheterodyne receiver. It is not a radio on a chip design. People need to actually learn about the radios they dismiss. If people keep maligning new GMRS radios online, without actually understanding the specs, manufacturers will stop producing new GMRS radios. I, for one, am happy to see companies actually producing GMRS radios. Sorry, but if we are relegated to only buying old radios that are not Part 95 certified, but Part 90 certified, eventually we will have no radios available for use, and no new GMRS radios.
