  1. I believe that aircraft communications in the 130-150 MHz range is AM.
  2. But it is 5 watts, which is the max GMRS for HT. I have the clone Pofung UV-15 and the GM-30 is a good choice especially for that price range. I gave it to my grandson after I got the TYT-UV88 which is a ham radio clone of the GM-30, and can be "opened" for GMRS as well.
  3. Sure beats bumper to bumper on the 405! ?

  14. I was trying to be not so “on the nose!
  15. The OP joined this Forum last Sunday, just to post his question and has yet to return to clarify it. I'll bet dollars to donuts that this is not about SAR and more about family and friends wanting to communicate back to the base camp while out skiing! I believe you guys are over-thinking the problem and hence complicating his solution.
  16. I once spoke to a Malibu resident on the Topanga GMRS repeater and he told me that the City of Malibu was funding the manufacture of DB20-G GoBox's with an enclosed rechargeable battery for distribution to citizens in particularly sensitive areas of the City that are at risk for fire and flood/mud dangers. I wish I had written down his callsign, because the whole concept sounds fascinating and I have never been able to get any followup on this project, including much use of Google on the City's website. The VNC575 Topanga Repeater is, as to be expected, privately held.
  17. What are the marine frequencies that you would like to listen to?
  18. Windmill farm in Wyoming to provide electricity to California
  19. I guess it depends where you are: Just for giggles, I gave a CQ up on 146.52 and Tom, KE6HHM from Santa Clarita answered and after a few minutes, Dave, KN6VVM jumped in from his home up in Tehachipi!
