  1. So much to unpack here: "Most folks had bubble packs that requires no license." -- End of discussion: even if they have a Ham license. "I talked to one guy last year... The issue with GMRS use is the guys who buy mobiles and either don't think they need or don't care about the license." -- Is he one of these guys?!? If he is using a bubble pack FRS no need for the debate. If he is using the mobile, how will paying $35 for a no-test GMRS license instill any qualifications for the ethical use of GMRS that he does or does not have now?!? At least a Ham has studied operational use of radios. Why not let these guys enjoy themselves in the middle of nowhere, where they are not causing any disruptions, and if they are, paying $35 for a license will not teach them how not to disrupt!
  2. He is inquiring about the various MODES offered to the user once the DB-20G has been "opened" beyond GMRS.
  3. What distinguishes Midland radios from CCRs (besides their much higher price)?
  4. If your Anytone was purchased in the US, it should be set to MODE: GMRS and with its default codeplug (be sure to download and keep a copy of this default codeplug) you have a Part 95(e) certified GMRS radio. Using MODE: (136-174) (400-470) will open your radio up to transmit on Ham bands 2 meters and 70 cms and even MURS, although I believe our lowest power setting "L" will still exceed the maximum power specification for MURS. I don't really have much experience with the other settings offered. Again, be sure to have a copy of your codeplug before changing these MODEs because I think once you do change mode, it erases the previous codeplug in favor of starting a new one for the newly selected MODE. Somewhere here on this forum I have recommended programming code plugs with blank lines in between segmented blocks of channels to allow for easy future growth. UPDATE: Here is the link to my proposal for CPS programming.
  5. Which manufacturer/model numbers are those?
  6. I am still using v2.26 on mine so let me know what advantages come from the upgrade.
  7. Which Firmware version is installed? (power off, hold down V/M, power on)
  8. Boy, if life were only this easy! ?
  9. I have to agree with this guy: Midland 275 vs. Radioddity DB20-G But another guy says that 99% of GMRS simplex use is narrowband And he proves his premise by setting his repeater to narrowband as well!?! ?
  10. When I click the "Quote" just to the right of the Plus Sign "+" it automatically puts the information above in the New Reply box for further information, such as this sentence. Maybe click Quote twice, as I always see the Plus Sign on Safari on my Mac?
  11. Many repeater owners ignore requests.
  12. Short range communications from the mid-1970s ? Short Range Communications with no batteries required!
  13. Nope, not saying that! I was responding to a request to program the Baofeng GM-15 with Radioddity GM-30 software that seems to work. I have no experience with Rugged brand radios. RT has long experience in writing radio software and is well respected by those that use it; but you must pay for quality. CHIRP is free software but for those radios that work on CHIRP, they require a radio to work with; are you willing to send them one? I am a bit confused by your post: First you say you have a rugged gmrs2 radio ("gmr2"?) and then you say you reached out to rugged and they say their software is proprietary to only their radios (true of most CPS software that is available from the manufacturer); so which is it: your radio is or is not from rugged? If not from whom? UPDATE: After looking at Rugged's website, it appears that RT Systems is the only programming solution for their GMR2 radio.
  14. Nicely Done! Geoffrey also ran, unsuccessfully as Governor of Michigan and was Kevorkian's defense lawyer as "Doctor Death" and his brother Doug, was a leader of The Knack, a one-hit wonder from 1980, who wrote and sang about his passion over his later girlfriend, a 17 year old high school student in "My Sharona" and whom is now a very successful real estate agent in LA. RIP Doug a couple of years ago. In 1979 a Hit Song Made This Future L.A. Real Estate Agent a Pop Culture Icon Doug Fieger dies at 57; leader of the L.A. band the Knack sang ‘My Sharona’
  15. What do Jack Kevorkian, and Los Angeles real estate agent to the stars, "My Sharona" Alperan have in common?
  16. I found this forum post that describes how to setup the GM-30 with preprogrammed channels in the DIY range and then be able to change the Tones on the fly: https://forums.mygmrs.com/topic/3119-radioddity-gm-30-i-can-hear-the-repeater-but-cannot-transmit-into-it/#comment-29849
  17. FWIW: On DMR I used to monitor Hurricane on 3199, and Florida is 3122. I also just found this: VOICE OVER INTERNET PrO"PiTI WEATHER NET Serving National Hurricane Center
  18. As I recall, the original firmware of the GM-30 had this restriction, which was removed with an updated firmware: GM30_APP_20210306.bin (and 20210403 and 20210615). I have the "clone" Pofung P15UV and this updated firmware works on the Pofung and removed this restriction.
  19. Thank you SO much: now you have saved future visitors to this thread from having to spend 12:51 watching the video linked in the OP! ?
  20. Per the CPS Programming Software for the GM-30, these DIY Channels (Channels 31-54) allow for "extra" repeaters on the same channels as 15-22, but with different tones: Perhaps it cannot be accomplished by the keyboard.
  21. I already had the Comet CX-333 tri-bander installed on my 2nd story roof (for my ham radio) and I am amazed at how well it works for GMRS and limited testing on MURS: With my 18 watts on GMRS, I find that I can communicate simplex to about 35 miles and hit repeaters (with elevation) on a radius of 60 miles (and 80 miles on 2 meters).
  22. Thank goodness it is not a complicated fact! ? WoW: Using FRS HTs for Repeaters: Modifying the Pofung BF-T11 FRS HT to work on Repeaters
  23. That is SO Midland! AND $165, too! Tough to compare to the $99-$109 Radioddity DB20-G a/k/a AnyTone AT-779UV, 18 Watts, cigarette lighter plug, and with ease of GMRS use right out of the box, including Wideband FM:
