This phenomena happens at the radio's "fringe" area, where of course everything, line of sight, objects in the way, etc. reduces the radio's range to have "hot spots" and "cold spots." It is why I added a short coax to my rooftop antenna's coax switch to my analog/DMR RD-5R HT so that I could sit in my "easy chair" and communicate consistently without sudden drop outs as I moved in my chair with the HT's original antenna. As I recall from my days studying radio theory, the superhet was invented to solve the problem of superregen radio's having poor selectivity; that is, an inability to clearly separate two signal on adjoining frequencies. I don't seem to recall that it added any increased sensitivity to the radio in and of itself; that is, the ability to receive the same signal at a further distance. So it just seems that your FRS radios just have a "hotter" front end design in their receivers than your Wouxun, or perhaps better squelch control. I'll look forward to what the radio super-nerds here have to say about this issue!

RT-97S Software Can't Find USB Port

Size matters! ? -
You could pick up a BF-T11 and modify it to both scan and then transmit to repeaters on Channels 16 and 20!
-
So reading the manual for "Scanning" for the OZARK TRAIL OZA19LT001 Walkie Talkie 2019LT001, it seems it only scans the FRS/GRMS Channels 1-22; is that correct? I misunderstood earlier that the OP was scanning UHF frequencies in addition to these channels. In that case, the Pofung BF-T11 are $30 per pair on eBay (I originally purchased mine on Amazon, but they are currently unavailable there), 2 watts (I am assuming for Channels 1-7, 15-22 and 0.5 watts per Channels 8-14, but I have not measured them) and scans all channels in about 4 seconds. Further, its CPS programing software can create code plugs that can be modified with a Hex Editor to expand its capabilities, including, in my case, changing the transmit frequency on Channel 19 to 467.650, so that I can use them to access a local GMRS repeater.

The Radioddity DB20-G a/k/a Anytone AT-779 does have this feature: FUN-REV (A-6) on the microphone, however, this feature is locked out when in GMRS mode. It works when the radio is "opened up." On my TYT-88UV, which does not have this function, I just programmed each of the 8 GMRS repeater channels in reverse. Other than being able to communicate simplex, the other use of this feature is decoding the Tones used by those on the Repeater Input.

I can't get icon to drag so I can locate repeater

That's @MichaelLAXto YOU! -
Just so you will know, I did modify my Pofung BF-T11 FRS radios to be able to transmit on the Repeater input frequency of Channel 19, so now I can use them on a nearby repeater, too!
-
No established way to avoid being heard on FRS radios when using GMRS per the rules; maybe MURS? I still don't understand the repeater scenario 100%, but at the end of the day, transmitting on 467.xxxx is supposed to be used only for Repeater inputs. I suppose you could try it, but now that you discussed it here, the FCC office in Cincinnati will be scanning nearby your home!!! [laughing emoticon seems to be missing!]
-
So now the Repeater is retransmitting on 459.550 or 465.550; not clear which one you are proposing? These frequencies are not within the GMRS band: maybe you are clobbering your local fire department's attempt to put out the fire at your residence?!? Oh, and what does FRS have to do with it?
-
Let's see if I get the principle espoused here: User 1: Transmits on 462.550/listens on ??? Repeater 1: Receives User 1's signal on 462.550 and retransmits it on 467.550 Repeater 2: Receives Repeater 1's signal on 467.550 and retransmits it on ??? User 2: Transmits on ??? and receives on ??? I need more explanation of your theory I guess.

I am a little confused: This allows Premium Members to download EVERY repeater listed here on myGMRS and its imported into CHIRP?
-
It used to be populated by a "crazies" repeater, which was being jammed, the last time I checked. Now the frequency is clear and this recorded announcement with the time comes on frequently. I don't see any listing here for it and a Morse Code ID just came on, so I'll pay attention to it next time. I thought I heard "WWCC0000,C" but no valid GMRS call has all zeros, does it (nor 4 digits either)?

Tone not saving on RA-25 (DB-20, AT-779UV)
MichaelLAX replied to PartsMan's question in Technical Discussion
See if you can figure this one out: VFO A is set for VHF and has the common 0.6000 MHz set for OFFSET (Menu 10) VFO B is set for UHF and has the common 5.0000 MHz set for OFFSET (Menu 10) (those VFO settings come from my codeplug I believe). In any event, if we have to change Menu 10's setting, is there a way to enter it manually? I have had to scroll from 0.6 MHz to 5.0 MHz and back and it is a slow process to watch it scan up or down. -
Perhaps, but I hear lots of kids on Channel 1 probably using their FRS radios on default Channel 1. Channels 15-22 allow for a maximum 50 watts on simplex so long as no repeater in the area is using it as the output frequency.

Perhaps, but you still can't complain about the features available for the price charged. -

Tone not saving on RA-25 (DB-20, AT-779UV)
MichaelLAX replied to PartsMan's question in Technical Discussion
Before turning on the radio, these are my recollections: Yes, once a Channel is programmed by the CPS software, if you change a setting such as Tone, it only "holds" while you are on that Channel. If you change channels and return, or power off and then on, it will default back to the Channel's settings from the CPS software. Here is what I do: I program "gaps of channels" between different categories of Channels. I'll try to do a screenshot later. So if like @Borage257you program a new frequency and tone in VFO, you can then save this to one of the empty channels without having to use the software and it will stick. -
Tone not saving on RA-25 (DB-20, AT-779UV)
MichaelLAX replied to PartsMan's question in Technical Discussion
OK: I now have an Anytone and the Radioddity versions. Borage is your an Anytone branded radio and if so do you not have the problems that OP has? I am going to try to mimic these problems on one of mine, now. -
Tone not saving on RA-25 (DB-20, AT-779UV)
MichaelLAX replied to PartsMan's question in Technical Discussion
Are you both using Retevis Ra-25s? This may be another distinction that I post about these units being different than the AT-779UV/DB20-G's (the other being Retevis CPS software is unable to open code plugs written in AT-779UV/DB20-G software). Are you both "unlocked?" Why would he need a Miklor DIY programming cable? The Retevis does not come with one like the AT-779UV/DB20-G's? -
