  1. That’s ok: I take all your snipes at me as “tongue in cheek!” It fits in with my sense of humor.
  2. You’re wrong: when using Reverse, I am transmitting on the Output and listening on the Input.
  3. And to actually be able to communicate with your “correspondent” if, for example, the repeater is not functioning or you do not know the proper tone to access the repeater
  4. Welcome to GMRS and myGMRS! Although more expensive, rechargeable lithium batteries are much lighter to carry. _________________________ Wagon Boss: It’s a butte! Wagon Boss: And right purdy, too! — Firesign Theater, Temporarily Humbolt County, 1968
  5. Here in Los Angeles there are two repeaters on 600 with separate input tones (which I will call Tone A and Tone B ) both with primarily the same coverage area (Mt Wilson and Mt Disappointment). How is the interference caused by this situation factually and/or practically different than “simplex on 467.600?” Would this example change, in your opinion, if one user transmitted with Tone A and the other replied with Tone B? How is this different if both transmitted with no access tones? How would you even know?
  6. A shout-out to @WyoJoefor being on top of CHIRP availability!
  7. I try to know as little Windows as possible. I've always been a Mac guy since its release and an Apple ][ guy before that. However, professionally I had to learn how to get my Macs to be able to communicate in a MSDOS and then Windows world. In the PowerPC era, I purchased SoftWindows to run (slowly) on my Mac and it included a licensed copy of Windows XP. When Macs migrated to the Intel Platform, I was able to extract that copy of XP from that program, and continue to install it, first in Bootcamp and then in Parallels. A little known fact is that you are allowed to install and run Windows 10 without actually having to buy a license.
  8. You're welcome: Success is always the goal! As I mentioned earlier, although I have installed Windows 10, all of my codeplug software that I have used personally and to help others that requires Windows has worked in my install of Windows XP in Parallels on my Mac. I did get similar problems as you with my attempt to mimic your situation by attempting to run the DB25-G software in Windows 10; but I continue to be able to run it successfully in Windows XP. Good news about CHIRP and the UV-9G!
  9. Hello and Welcome, Gil: The tail, if there is to be one, is a function that is programmed on the particular repeater. You, as the repeater user, cannot choose to turn it on or off.
  10. But not with the Wouxun software, it appears.
  11. @DanWdoesn't seem to care about what others think; he has expressed over and over again in this thread his intention to use Channel 19.
  12. Yes, Repeater 17 is Channel 25 on your radio. Set your radio to transmit with digital tone 464 (as I noted above from instructions in your manual). optionally you can set your radio to receive for tone 67.0 Hz, but try it without this tone initially to get it up and running Your transmit tone of DCL 464 tells the repeater to recognize you as a proper user of the repeater and then retransmits your signal. A receiving tone can be used to "filter out" others who are transmitting on the same repeater output frequency, but I suggest you ignore this tone for now.
  13. Scott: Do you have more than one COM option to select; maybe this is the problem? 9 out of 10 times these problems, in my experience, are driver problems. Scott and I went down that road but to no avail. FWIW: A good resource for this is Miklor As noted by @tcp2525above, who also runs Windows in a Virtual Machine, I am convinced this is not the problem. I also hate to be defeated in these issues and this would be the first time: So, Scott, feel free to text me to keep going, especially if you come across any new information! A myGMRS friend, @Papatree, also has the DB25-G and I will consult with him when he returns from his weekend vacation with family.
  14. So you are suggesting using the KG-805G with a GMRS license, but operate it as if it was an FRS radio? Interesting... I downloaded its programming software, and indeed, it can convert the repeater channels to simplex; unlike the Radioddity GM-30 (and its clone, the Pofung P15UV which I gave to my grandson), for which I cannot find a way to remove or modify the repeater channels. And it's too bad there is not a 2 watt Medium power level in addition to its 5 watt High and 0.5 watt Low power settings. Using narrowband to communicate with Wideband radios will present a problem though. Perhaps it is better to keep Wide except for Channels 8-14.
  15. You're not going to find a FRS radio with dual watch. You can set each of the channels on the GM-30 to Low Power. That leaves figuring out a way to stop transmissions on the Repeater Channels (23-54). I gave my GM-30 clone, the Pofung P15UV, to my grandson with my GMRS ID taped to the battery pack on the back. Admittedly, he is 10 years old, tho.
  16. Ok, thanks for that perspective.

  18. License challenges? $70 and covers your family then get a Radioddity GM-30 or one of its clones
  19. Never Say Nobody: I hear traffic on those channels here in Los Angeles many times when I scan! And when I asked a similar question here on this forum, someone indicated they are useful in a close-range context, when there is then limited interference by others. But I will let you have the last word on this sub-topic!
  20. The context was using High, Medium or Low power when discussion Channels. My attached photo was to show Channel 8 being set for LOW power; and not calling Channels 1-7 at 5 watts as Low, but Medium power.
  21. I think Scott is confused enough about the use of CPS Codeplug Software and his two new radios, to subject him to an experimental version of CHIRP before it has been "officially" released. As someone who writes Codeplugs for the PAPA System exclusively on my Macintosh (using Windows in Parallels when needed), I suggest that we keep our focus for Scott on CHIRP for Mac for the DB25-G (now that you have pointed out its availability) and Windows in Parallel for the UV-9G My guess at this point is that he has "driver" issues in Windows, regardless of whether Windows is running on a Mac or on a PC.
  22. Is that a double entendre or just a double error? ?
  23. Technically speaking, if you are going to use that terminology for GMRS channels: Channels 1-7 are Medium power Channels 8-14 are Low power; and Channels 15-30 are High power. Just like on my Anytone AT-779UV:
