The Pofung P15UV also comes with the drop-in charger and the batteries that came with my TYT UV-88 did not require the modification that the ones @WyoJoe acquired. I purchased my Pofung and TYT from Let's Get Ready and they ship for free and also sell a high capacity battery (3200 MAh) which also did not require modification.

@WyoJoeis probably the best resource for your question, but until he chimes in... I don't have the TD-H5, but I do have the Pofung P15UV, which I am told is a clone of that radio and the Radioddity GM-30. My Pofung is upgraded to the latest Radioddity firmware to solve some initial problems that came with the radio. I purchased it specifically to do Tone Scanning for CTCSS and DCS tones and it works really well for that purpose. I do not have the UV-5X, but I do have a couple of the UV-5R original variants that will transmit on GMRS as well as the Ham bands, and they both use CHIRP in lieu of any manufacturer supplied programming software. @OffRoaderXunder his YouTube alter-ego, Notarubicon, has recently posted a YouTube video on How To Scan For Repeater Tones Or Privacy Codes On A UV-5R - Tone Scanning On Baofeng UV5R Ham Radio, but it is not clear to me if the UV-5X will do Tone Scanning. I actually gave the Pofung to my grandson after I acquired the TYT-UV88, which is similar to the Pofung but will also transmit on both GMRS and Ham bands and does Tone Scanning. But all in all, I would probably say the TD-H5 is the better value if two radios and 4 batteries have any value to you and I find my Pofung/TYT easier to use than my UV-5Rs.

Sounds like good customer support from BTWRs! ?

“… it’s all Ham garbage” ?

Just curious: What was the error: not directly connecting the meter to the internal battery connections?

I do not have this particular radio, but until someone with real knowledge of this radio replies to you; I took a look at the manual. Some radios have a VFO/Channel selector that switches from Channels to a VFO (or "Frequency Mode"), to allow you to program specific frequencies to listen to. And some radios have a VFO-A and a VFO-B to choose from. Perhaps you are scrolling through two VFO channels. Also, check out this selection from the manual: Maybe post a photo or two of your two "channels."

Is it perhaps a repeater on the CSRAGMRS system, covering the Central Savannah River Area in GA/SC? Probably not, since it looks like they are listed here on myGMRS. You do not mention which channel/frequency you hear it on in Dillion, SC.

Whats with repeater users needing permission on GMRS?

Sage advice for someone who is debating FCC regulations on the internet (or in the woods ?). But in the real world, what if someone, who is basically judgment proof (that is owns little or no assets) starts defaming your wife on the 725 Repeater. Does the repeater owner have civil liability so that you can threaten to bring a private defamation against against the repeater owner, or as @BoxCarrepresents, does the "repeater owner ha[ve] no responsibility for traffic across the repeater unless they specifically generate the input traffic" and then you are SOOL! Inquiring minds want to know! Hence I would like to see a citation to @BoxCar's claim. -
Just curious: "Price Gouging" is a rather pejorative term. Do you perhaps mean "over-pricing" as in the shortage of resupply has artificially caused the retail price to increase? Let's say for example, that your online store had a limited inventory of Raspberry Pi 3Bs. You know that the cost to replace them will be higher than what you paid to originally acquire them (if you can even find a supply of replacements), so do you sell them at their previous lower prices, or do you sell them for their new higher market price? Remember, we are not talking about the price of milk or even insulin; we are talking about Raspberry Pi 3Bs.

Thank you: I went back and read that thread, but it is primarily a discussion of the technical issues of a Repeater Owner vs. User, such has who has the obligation to ID. @BoxCarmakes the substantive statement: That is a rather dramatic statement, if it is true, and I am curious to discover its citation so that we can see if the statement is correct or just a hope. -

As Emily Littela used to say on Weekend Update on SNL: ?

Here are some features that might be missing from a "desk mic [without] any button other than PTT and Monitor:" Perhaps the Wouxun Bluetooth Speaker Microphone MMO-004BT can have a desktop mount fashioned to attach to it:

You know @BoxCar, perhaps the proper response to the OP should have been: Just a wild guess on my part...

And @BoxCarwill come over to your Shack and whistle the necessary codes to mimic the missing hand microphone KG-UV10A buttons! ?

The makings of a good terriorist movie plot!! What radios will be featured in the movie? -
I remember when I was about 12 years old and my monthly copy of ARRL's QST magazine arrived. It had a construction project that took advantage of that phenomena for HF; using out of phase signals to completely open up a frequency where a "pile up" was occurring due to a rare foreign country's Ham signal was being received. It then had circuitry to allow "my" signal to make it through free and clear! And then I looked at the cover of that issue and realized it was APRIL! ?

You're welcome! ?

Especially one with the seemingly poor reputation that Midland brings to the table: All I know about them is what I have heard in Randy's videos. If they want to upgrade their quality and user base, they best be offering substantial discounts to get back into the game. -
Perhaps, but I do not own a hotspot; I use the 3 DMR repeaters available to me on the PAPA System.

Your reply link is a bit bizarre, to say the least! ? These mobiles have three power settings: Low (L), Medium (M) and High (H). My L setting is probably less watts than someone using a UV-5R on MURS. But, as long as you brought it up, MURS has very little usefulness for me in a mobile radio, whether the one in my car or the one in my shack. Most of my MURS use mobile is to listen to Walmart employees on MURS 5 (Green Dot) when I am in one of their parking lots. And after all, there are no MURS repeaters. When I need the additional range of VHF propogation, I flip over to 2 meters and use my 20 watts there, whether simplex or on one of the many repeaters available to me! Most importantly, in an emergency, it is reassuring to know I have the capability to use MURS (or GMRS Channels 8-14 for that matter) on H, if I need to reach someone who is desperately calling for help as I scan throughout my channels! But thanks for bringing it up, so that I could clear up your misconceptions about it.

The versatility of the Part 95(e) certified Radioddity DB20-G (and its clones) has been cited many times on this forum. I posted that photo for @Greyrider's benefit: -
