  1. DTCSS, DTCS, DCS, DPL are all the same thing. NN loaded by chirp means the same as N (actually it probably emphasizes the fact that both TX and RX have Normal polarity.
  2. Are you sure your buddy is still connected? If you read the news article on the front page the MyGMRS network was shut down nine months ago when the FCC announced that linking was prohibited. https://mygmrs.com
  3. Pedro, No. The term is accepted by anthropologists, archaeologists, sociologists, and others with an education, whereas your overly narrow definition of “native” was simply intended to troll @ADVBikerRadioGirl and then @amaff, picking an argument where none previously existed. Clearly your lineage is shared with @Socalgmrs.
  4. Everyone should just block him. He’s getting his jollies by being mentioned by many. Just completely ignore him. Don’t look at those hidden posts he makes. Make him as irrelevant to the forum as he is in life.
  5. Yea, but it’s a pedantic take. After 20,000 - 30,000 years of having evolved languages, tribal customs, and even recognizable physical characteristics Native Americans deserve the title. Or, for the pedants, we’re all simply immigrants from Africa.
  6. That’s right; the software works differently than Chirp. As others said click on the caret. Disregard Socialmisfit. In fact add him to your ignore list. He never has anything useful.
  7. I put together a hotspot for ham radio. Tonight I picked it up while driving on the interstate about half a mile from my house. It continued until I was nearly a mile away. It has 10 milliwatts and a 3 inch antenna. I was surprised. I already owe you beer!!
  8. The question was never “what do you want us to do?” The question is “How can we simplify the regulations or get rid of unnecessary regulations.” Almost all of the suggestions in this thread actually increase the complexity of the regulations.
  9. KY jelly is water based, not petroleum based.
  10. You have to match levels and impedances. That’s frequently done using an audio transformer. What is the output impedance on your radio? It’s probably 8-16 ohms, but your manual should say. Is it a speaker output or a headphone output? They have different levels. What are the specs of your audio input on your PC? Amazon sells cables that match outputs to inputs, but you really need to know what you’re matching first. Another way to do this is by placing a speaker and microphone close to each other and letting them couple audibly, but there are drawbacks to that as well. Good luck, Jacob!
  11. Once upon a time aluminum was used for house wiring but there were fires in some places. It’s a little trickier to work with aluminum because aluminum oxidizes very quickly and aluminum oxide is a pretty good insulator. We still use aluminum for utility conductors but with quite a bit of extra training to do it right when joining copper and aluminum. Gil @WRUU653 would be much more likely to understand the process than me. But that’s at DC and and 60 hz. RF travels through molecular thin oxide layers pretty well and I agree with you that stainless steel and aluminum don’t appear to bother Comet.
  12. I wasn’t thinking about cross banding as much as having a dedicated antenna connection for the 10 meter antenna.
  13. Nice review, entertaining and informative. I apologize if I missed it (and I did go back and reread it), but does it have a single SO239 or one for each transceiver?
  14. No, if you program your radio with TSQL, you won’t hear anyone else unless they are transmitting using the RX tone or code you have programmed. Anyone listening using Tone will hear your transmissions. Squelch mode only affects your own radio reception.
  15. Karl, Although it was the voltage regulator that failed that’s probably just a symptom of a high current problem with the boards which draw from power from it. Repairing or replacing the power supply will be repetitively frustrating unless you find and fix the actual problem. I would recommend sending the repeater to Retevis after contacting them using the email address Gil provided above. Best wishes! Please let us know what you find.
  16. Turn it into Wouxun support. Maybe it’s unintentional and they’ll fix it in a firmware update.
  17. You can’t unless you’re a premium member. Don’t worry about it though. T-sql requires a tone on receive. Tone doesn’t. You can hear a repeater in T-sql IFF (IFF = if and only if) you have the correct rx tone programmed. If you use Tone you will hear everything on a frequency, regardless of if it includes a tone.
  18. I’m sorry I cannot give you the trophy and the laughing emoji both!
  19. How many were DOA and how many died after being programmed? I’m not saying you made a mistake; I’m simply mildly curious about the sequence of events.
  20. He didn’t initially bring broadcast TV up; you did. All he did was reply to your comment from Saturday:
  21. There’s a guy named Steve who sells them to people all fixed up for GMRS. Of course for GMRS use they must be limited to 50 watts.
  22. Nope, no stars between us and Voyager. Voyager is 15 billion miles away. The nearest star (other than our sun) is 23 Trillion miles away.
  23. But why not just setup a repeater on one of the other pairs? Nothing is gained by intentionally running interference (and yes I appreciate that you said you wouldn’t.)
  24. That’s correct. For UHF it’s several percent further than the visual horizon.
  25. I'm sorry. In the context you intended it was not snarky. I must have been overly sensitive that day.
