That was discussed several years ago while the original forum was in use.... however, due to interstate legalities and host site liability issues for deals gone wrong, that will not be added to the forum... at least for the foreseeable future. If anyone wishes to conduct equipment deals on your own by PM or email, that's fine. However, please do not post any items "for sale' in the open forum. The only "Classified Area" that we will chat about here is Nevada's Area 51.... Thank You.

Stephen - Welcome to the Forum and thanks for your feedback and advice. -
Dan - If they were not communicating with each other, try a GMRS repeater. I understand that those work pretty well......LOL....

You sure that it was the computer that was tired and had spelling problems?

how do I get setup on an open repeater
PastorGary replied to swccbear12's question in Technical Discussion
Since the original poster in this thread has not been back to the forum since April 2013, I'd simply suggest that the direction that this thread has taken since the thread was started nearly a year ago can continue on it's current path. Thank you. Staff. -
Thanks, John. We'll table this thread until you post here again with an update in spring.

Sacramento Newbie Wondering About Hand-Helds and Repeaters
PastorGary replied to cwheeler's topic in General Discussion
Hello, Curtis and welcome to the Forum. As with all repeater systems, height, antenna gain and receiver characteristics all play a part in accessability. Since there are a few open repeaters listed in the MyGMRS main website for your area, perhaps you can do some testing with the owners of those systems to see which might be best for you regarding coverage, both in and out of the system. In a dire emergency, cell phones are all but useless, so a personal communications plan is always a good idea as back-up. What you may wish to consider, as your finances allow, it to get a couple commercial handi-talkies and program them for GMRS as well as for any amateur repeaters in your area. 4 or 5 watts from commercial equipment will make a difference in reliability. Thanks for posting and I'm sure that as time permits, others may have suggestions for you. -
John - What happened this time? ... Tech glitch, or unauthorized traffic???
-
William - Welcome to the forum. According to the main repeater registration list located here (after login) - https://www.mygmrs.com/ There are no member repeaters registered at MyGMRS in that immediate area. However, perhaps a few of our New York State members may know of something that is not (yet) registered with our group that might be available. We'll stand by to see what they have to say...

` ` ` It was so cold here on Tuesday, the 28th., that grizzly bears were standing along the highway holding up signs that said, "Will trade salmon for warmer coat."

58 inches winter total thus far here in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin with 29 inches on the ground at the moment. (compacted because of the weight). John - just think of it this way... in another 4500 years, the glacier cycle will be moving south again, covering up Al Gore's "Global Warming Speech Tour Bus" with a mile thick covering of glacial ice.

Thanks for the additional information and Welcome to the Forum.

Just a note about FireFox... If you do go into the History drop down menu, you will see a check box for deleting "cookies". If you check that box, you MAY have to re-register at Banks, Credit Unions and Credit/Debit Card company websites when you try to access your account. With cookies deleted from those types of account websites, the next time you try to log in, their server will not recognize you. It may be a good idea to make certain that the "cookies" check box IS NOT CHECKED when you hit the "Clear Now" button in that drop down menu.

Hello Robert and thank you for joining us here again at MyGMRS forum. Haven't chatted with you in quite some time. Please check your MyGMRS forum PM inbox for a memo regarding your north construction project and LAGGROUP. Thanks for your posts and Welcome Back...

Haven't received any snow in the past week here in Wisconsin, but we have 16 inches on the level with drifting in places to 4 feet. I haven't been here for a few days because the 21 degree below zero temp's with minus 55 degree wind chill knocked the cable system off for 3 days. I wanted to set up my new Dell Inspirion Windows 8 laptop and had to wait until I had internet back today. It's up to +6 degrees here at the moment and another night of near 20 degrees below zero again, but it's supposed to be 33 degrees ABOVE zero this weekend... Golfing Weather !!

Lakes Area GMRS Group [LAGGROUP] UPDATE, Dec. 27, 2013
PastorGary replied to PastorGary's topic in General Discussion
Update December 30 - The LAG main website and the LAG forum are now operating with full features and interactive screens. Anyone who lives in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois who was a member or who may wish to participate, please see details in post # 1 above. -
As a member of the LAGGROUP for many years, I have kept in touch with the previous and current administrators - especially since the problems with the old software came to light about a year ago. As I mentioned in another thread here at MyGMRS forum awhile ago, a NEW LAGGROUP website and forum has been in the development stage and is now ready for launch. The following 'press release' was sent out today, December 27, by the new administrators of LAGGROUP. This information below is primarilly for members here at MyGMRS who were part of the original LAGGROUP as well as for others who live in the states that LAGGROUP services and wish to join. LAGGROUP and MyGMRS.com have been the two primary locations for getting technical data and repeater information in the past. Now, with a new LAGGROUP website and forum, we are confident that the two associations will work in harmony to promote the proper, legal use of the GMRS Radio Service for many years to come. Some features are still being refined at the new main LAGGROUP website and will be fully functional very soon. From the LAGGROUP Administrators December 27, 2013:

` ` ` Let me add some regulation data here - this is an excerpt from 47CFR95.29.B The highlighted word "ONLY" is important because ONLY the +5 mhz offset frequency of a GMRS repeater pair can LEGALLY be used to activate the repeater. If a repeater is programmed in reverse, to accept the low channel out put of another repeater to trigger it +5 mhz up as the output frequency, that is illegal. Also, just an FYI - I have heard of some ham's in the early 1970's who linked repeaters output to input with a plus or minus 600khz offset as an experiment and were able to send a final signal out from the 9th repeater in a row some 450 miles away. Hearing 9 squelch tails at the end of the line must have been really something to hear. I don't believe, however, that this practice is something that is done these days under Part 97 rules. I am not a ham, so perhaps one of our colleagues here who is, can clarify that. P-G

As a matter of fact, I did... about 10 days ago. Jeff Rogers is the new administrator and is working to correct the glitches. There is some news that will be released in a matter of weeks concerning LAGGROUP and as soon as I get word about the site and forum repairs, etc., I'll let everyone know here about things. Thank You.

Hi, Jim and welcome to the posting side of the Forum. In general terms, the stipulations on who and what can take place on FRS authorized channels is found below and the regulations are not well written in some areas -
