While I'm jealous of all you guys that can afford to buy the nice radios, my AnyTone AT-778UV with Nagoya UT72 antenna is actually performing quite well.
i had one for my RV for awhile was a nice radio until the display decided to go south.

For less than $350 you can get a Motorola XTL5000 UHF Dashmount radio with 1,000 channels, programming cable, windows CPS software, microphone, and speaker which is a lot better radio in more ways then one as compared to a Hytera.
Also, I wouldn't pass on a comparable model Kenwood.
I have one, i actually prefer the Hytera for simplicity.. i paid 375 for the xtl 5000 w/ software and cable.

Pirate mode? Unless you mean more $$$$.
Not necessarily. I picked up a Hytera HM782 mobile on Ebay last summer for $350 bucks. Best radio i've ever owned and have since picked up a couple PD782 Portables for pretty damn good deal. Keep your eyes out, you can get pretty good deals on the Motorolas as well. Plenty of software on line for either radios so thats a none issue. I love the Hytera Radios.

I didn’t say it was easy. That’s an absolute modifier. I was making a comparison.
I said it was easier than getting a license for ham radio.
Now for comparison..
Navigate FCC site + $35 = GMRS
Navigate FCC site + $35 + Test = Ham
24 Pack of Beer = $30

I'd bet half the traffic you hear in any large metropolitan area is not even licensed. Particularly in the Las Angeles basin area. And i would even stretch that to include actual repeaters. I'm even hearing a lot of business using GMRS now, like Motels, Grocery Outlets, Construction Co, Landscaping Companies.. I've had a few landscaping companies try to use my repeater, they are hard to get rid of, they don't care. But when you learn who they are and get in touch with their owner and educate them on the FCC laws they will disappear. Self Policing the GMRS repeater Bands and getting harder and harder, sometimes i just turn it off. Thank goodness for the remote access.

well,, the FCC can have a 'Hay Day' in the Las Angeles basin area. But we all know that aint ever gonna happen

Ham radio is aimed at people who are interested in the science and technology of radio communications. People who just want to communicate have to jump through some hoops to become a ham.
GMRS is easier, covers your entire extended family, and doesn’t require jumping through hoops. Just pay your $35.I dont know about being easy.. some folks have a hard time signing up.. I must have helped a dozen people last year navigating the web site(s) to get their license.. Hell, passing the technician test is almost as easy. - Just saying

Voice scramblers (inversion scrambling) won't prevent the tones from being scanned. Audio will just noise, but the tone still gets transmitted in the same place.
yup, i just made the comment in relation to privacy (somewhat)

use a voice scrambler.
Voice Scramblers works well, especially in the Hytera radios.. But problem with that, everyone needs a like radio. Other problem, if anyone worries about it. FCC Illegal for GMRS. But still quite a few still use it.

Thx. So if someone is keying up the repeater what controller do I need to remotely kill the repeater and shut it down? I think I saw the Bridgecom repeater does this?
ICS controller can be configured to turn up/down via HTML or DTMF. The Bridgecom you refer to is most likely set up with an ICS controller they are plug an play for Bridgecom,, Arcom may work as well but i don't think Arcom can switch via HTML

And I thought CB was bad back when I was stationed at Fort Irwin. It was a different world once you went through Cajon Pass heading west.
its actually worse than CB in the LA Basin.. Most of it does disappear once you get over Cajon Pass

Its just people talking.. Many in Spanish.. its not "a complete zoo", its just busy.
very busy, people purposely stepping all over everyone, including the repeater channels.. lots (LOTS) of profane language, Get over the valley and it disappears back to normal life except the two guys on ch 19, i swear, they start yapping at 5:00 a.m. and keep going.. They must have a good repeater site, i can hear them in L.A. and Barstow. I'm just spoiled being in the desert.

if you want to hear a complete zoo,, scan the GMRS channels driving between Las Angels and San Berdino. I don't even bother anymore..

We use to get Norinco SKS rifles new for $79 and a 1440 round case of 7.62x39mm on stripper clips for $79. Those days are long gone.
You can get 7.62x39 from Ammo Supply Wharehose in Pahrump NV for reasonable price

My last SKS was taken from me at a Club Shooting range back in 1995.. The gun fired full auto on its own.. Fired off 4 rounds in one trigger pull. Range master had the club gun dealer inspect the rifle, whole trigger mechanism was defective was going to cost me $130 to fix.. I gave the rifle up.

i read a story awhile back on X where the Ukraine Military's choice tactical radio was the Baofeng Hand radio.. And there was all kinds of conspiracy pings suggesting the Baofeng's were being remotely turned off. Several pictures posted showing the Ukraine army guys with Baofengs on their hips.

You werent even offered that year of free credit monitoring?
Thats crap monitoring, but they dont even throw that steaming pile at you anymore just proves that they dont care, IMHO.
Yea, they did offer that, but signing up required a credit card.__ even though it’s free for a year
-
You know what really erks me, Getting notices from health providers or credit card companies, (I’ve gotten two in last 10 months) advising you they experienced a data breach and your personal information, including name, address, sss Number, Driver Lic Number was among information breached, And all they do is say “sorry”.
