  1. Nope, they are the same. Changes look good from what I see.
  2. Just? As if that wasn't enough . Sorry I'm also a ham... even before I was a ham.
  3. Okay, change your settings on DILA to none on RX and 103.5 on TX. and the TX should be 467.550. Eaton should be 467.650 on the TX. Sheep looks correct but may or may not be reachable or active. Same issue with VNC, it should be 467.600 on TX. The numbers after the decimal should be the same on TX and RX only the TX is +5 making it 467.xxx and RX is 462.xxx. The TX in your radio is what you are sending to the repeater and the RX is what you are receiving. Take a look at the frequencies on channels 23-30. The frequencies on channels 31-38 should match those, they are your eight repeater frequency settings.
  4. @WRYU810 A couple things come to mind. It is possible to hear a repeater that you can't reach. Repeaters are usually in a higher position and have more power and can reach farther than your radio may. You may not have the right input tone for what you are hearing. When you go to the map page click on the gear in the upper left hand corner and select offline and stale repeaters, sometimes repeaters are still active even though they show as stale. Stale just means that it hasn't been updated on the site in over a year. So you may be hearing some other repeater than you think. You may want to leave the RX tones off on your radio until you know you have set things up to access the repeater. By leaving the RX (receive tones) on your radio off your radio will hear everything on the channel you are listening to regardless of if it is coming from the repeater. How are you programming your radio for repeaters? Repeater channels are generally set up from channel 23-30, 31-38... by making sure you program in the appropriate location on the radio the required offset of +5 will automatically set. This will make your radio TX on 467.xxx and receive on 462.xxx. As for hearing Arizona, it's possible the repeater you are hearing is part of a linked system. If you can show us what you programmed we may be able to dial in what is happening better. I hope this info is helpful. side note, I have no experience with your particular radio so someone may have more insight on that than I.
  5. Welcome to the forum @WRYU810
  6. I’ve been following this and debating sharing my own ridiculous story. Not as cool or adventurous as @WRHS218 out amongst the boulders but a week ago I was using my radio to monitor the local sheriff, they were searching for someone in a nearby creek bed and had the helicopter up. I put my KG-935G plus in my shirt pocket to hear it better as I was out doing yard work I bent down to pick something up from my patio and down went the radio with a bounce on the cement. I thought well that’s it for that but not even a dent or scratch. Idiot approved and tested.
  7. AS mentioned by @OffRoaderX Chirp is your best bet for the UV-9G radios. I have a few radios that don't use Chirp but as a Mac user I am starting to look for those that do for future radios. It's just easier. I can't speak to the Midland radios as I don't have any but I hear they are pretty straight forward and my guess is after using Chirp on your UV-9G radios you will gain a better understanding and be better prepared to navigate the Midland. It helps to see things on the page so to speak.
  8. Damn! That is a bummer. May we have a moment of radio silence for this fallen Kenwood...
  9. I don’t see this happening if for no other reason it takes an act of congress to get the FCC to do something.
  10. If I may point out there was no mention of repeaters in @UncleYoda’s post, or demanding repeater owners having to enforce anything. So you are assuming things not said as of yet. Maybe it’s not about you.? What was said rather is that hams and GMRS users must only use their PTT if they are going to be serious. Yeah that’s going to happen. Control issues?Perhaps. Clearly something upset the very serious yoda. But rather than be adult about it and say what it is he has chosen to make demands without explanation. Perhaps this is because he knows this isn’t the place? Who knows. Attacking the forum with insults rather than man up and say what you want to say isn’t what I would call a great approach. Regardless of what this is about there are better ways of communicating than cryptic b.s. demands with insults. Finally an anecdote no one asked for but anyway… I knew a couple that were living in London during WWII and they told me how they couldn’t fit under the bed as they were trying to seek shelter as the bombs were whistling coming in low between the buildings down the street. When the noise stopped that’s when you knew it was about to hit. With the real fear of possible death they found themselves laughing at themselves trying to fit under the bed. Plenty to be serious about in this world but if you are only serious you are missing out. 73’s people
  11. oh I’m sorry, I thought it was time to Get Smart… missed it by that much.

  13. This is exactly what happend to me. Snail mail took eleven days to get from the VEC's to the ARRL in Conneticut. Once ARRL had it in their hands it was sent electronically that day to the FCC and I had my license the next day. I was beginning to think they sent it via messenger on a pony.
  14. 16, already using it for off road and I can't be bothered to change the channel but seriously even though I'm no where near line "A" I would not choose to exclude them so if I had to choose I'd say 20 but does anyone really use a road channel for GMRS? Add me to the scanning category.
  15. @nokones, I found their website and app very helpful as well. You may find your confidence build with just a bit of time with it. The app gives you helpfull info and tips on things you may have trouble with and you will know when you are comfortable to take and pass the test.
  16. Nice! That's awesome, way to jump in with both feet so to speak! Welcome to the forum.
  17. As a fellow Mac user I understand your decision. When shopping for radios you may want to check for compatibility with Chirp for programming. It works well with Mac computers.
  18. If I may ask, what antenna did you end up with?
  19. I know that seems lame. I did notice some of those accessories are cheaper on Amazon while the radio is cheaper from GigaParts or Dx engineering.
  20. I don’t have any of these but I’ve been looking at them as well. Right now I’m leaning toward the Icom IC-2730A. 50 watts, duel band, made in Japan, duel receive (can cross band repeat) can be upgraded to Bluetooth if you want, relocatable face/controls and a MARS/CAP mod if you like and most of all for me Chirp. I really want my next radio to work with Chirp. Anyway I’ll be interested to hear what others have to say as well.
  21. @WRFN864 very nice install, this speaks to my OCD . @jbkalla That’s a really nice practical solution where space is an issue. I like that the screen is in an easy place to view and operate.
  22. I didn't see any mention of detachable antennas... The way I read this was OP was not looking at a different detachable antenna but rather putting the existing part of the radio that is the antenna as well as the radio body outside the vehicle for better range while using the mic inside the vehicle. So the answer is yes it would help with the range that is until this thing takes a beating outside at 60 miles an hour and you couldn't see the screen. Thus my response of I don't think it was intended for this purpose. queue footage of radio flopping around in the wind
  23. It’s really just an FRS hand held radio with a speaker mic. Put the radio in your pocket with the mic attached where you can hear it and use PTT. I don’t believe they intended this as a vehicle mounted radio.
