  1. What rule is that? Rhetorical question. There is no rule you can't use inverted for GMRS.
  2. I would add, read the one that's on the radio, leave it unchanged and save it, then download another to make changes to and upload that. I find if you have a back up to go back to you probably wont need it but if you don't have one you absolutely will wish you did.
  3. I’m with @Hoppyjr on this. I seem to recall they would change it to wide band for you if you sent it back to them. It could be worth contacting Midland customer service.
  4. People keep telling me to get out and vote… I keep telling them you can’t vote twice. One and done
  5. The dog got up at 5 a.m. I think there was a squirrel in the backyard.
  6. One thing to think about is where you plan to install the radio and if you have room or not. If space is at a premium you may want to look at a mobile radio that has a detachable head unit that can be located more easily with the main part of the radio remotely placed somewhere else. The Wouxun KG-1000 Plus comes to mind. I am not sure what other radios may do this. Good luck in your decision.
  7. I’m glad to hear you say this. It has been my experience as well. I was thinking it odd that someone would do this when everyone around where I am has some inexpensive radios as well as their expensive ones and I don’t hear anyone giving grief over using them.
  8. I like this approach. Kind of a Chevy Chase response. Q) what kind of radio you using? A) Motorola. Q) A Motorola? A) Icom. Q) wait, an Icom? A) Kenwood, it’s all I use. Nothing else, why would I? Q) huh? A) I like you Betty.
  9. Go to your main page, select account settings at the top of the page, you’ll then find it under other settings.
  10. It’s hard to complain about the anchovies on your pizza if you don’t speak up when the order goes in. my food analogy to voting.
  11. Aside from the performance issues already stated I imagine that in the folded down state it might be inclined to whip around in the wind at speeds spanking your car as you travel the highways and byways. Okay I realize that probably wouldn’t be your use scenario. All kidding aside I would swap out to a shorter antenna while using parked in the garage, something that stays vertical but isn’t affected by the height restriction.
  12. I’ll throw my vote for the Midland MXTA26, I’ve been very happy with mine.
  13. No they are not. This is the forum which is public. The tones on the map repeater site is not public. You need to be signed in to see them. In case you missed my previous post. 14. Intresting that in this video he says that the Larsen version has a plastic base and needs a no ground plane antenna. Here is the link to the version he shows that has a metal base so you can use a ground plane antenna. https://theantennafarm.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=9280
  15. This is great! I had no idea this existed.
  16. @BoxCar pretty much nailed it in his post. If you decided to add a repeater in a busy area I would try the least used, furthest away from you frequency with different tones. Of course if some of those repeaters are open for you to use you may find you don’t need to add another.
  17. Welcome @WSEV474KennyS . Don’t believe him Kenny, he really doesn’t, Steve’s one of the smart ones.
  18. Let’s take those one at a time. Yes. no. what about it? and no. If I give or sell a family member or friend a car I’m not paying for their insurance. If you want it for your own uses you can turn requests off, don’t list the tones or don’t list it at all. I guess I just don’t see a problem here that can’t be solved by making a decision of what you want to do. Listing the repeater on Mygmrs with a request button and expecting people not to request to use it is beyond comprehension. It seems like you want to be unburdened by request and possibly the repeater. I was making a suggestion that rather than walking away from it you might hand the burden to someone that would want it. I have included a screen shot for an example of request disabled. It’s up to you to make the decision… or not. You asked and people answered.
  19. Perhaps there is someone that uses the repeater that you may feel would be a good steward for it that you could sell or gift it to.
