Mounting NMO antenna to aluminum truck cab?
WRUU653 replied to JohnDeere7920's question in Technical Discussion
I’ve seen these discussed here on the forum, they are definitely pricey but it’s an option. Third Brake Light Antenna Mount - 2017-2025 Ford Super Duty -
Just an FYI, It's possible that one of the other radios chirp file will work with it but chirp isn't listing for the Abbree specifically at this time.
-
If you’re thinking of using anything in the 2m band I would recommend the Comet antenna you are looking at, that’s a good antenna and the MXT-A26 while good for gmrs and some 70cm will have horrible SWR in the 2m bands.
-
If memory serves me (and sometimes it doesn’t) I believe all three can be unlocked but you can also order either GMRS or ham versions as well.

Retevis RA25. I had to look it up, I couldn’t remember either
-
You beat me to it
-
Real budget I like the Anytone AT-779 or one of it’s equivalents.
-
The “quick keying brings it back momentarily” has me suspicious of a loose connection in the radio and the additional power demand is temporarily making the connection better. I’m with @SteveShannon on contacting customer service.
-
Well that shoots down that theory…
-
I’m curious what you are using for a power source.

Need a 3D belt clip for my Baofeng! Any suggestions
WRUU653 replied to Andrei's topic in General Discussion
You’re right that belt clip sucks. This is one on eBay, you’ll note that it doesn’t have a hinge mechanism. I just left mine off and put it in a pocket or a holder like this. -
I'm thinking about getting a Radioddity DB25-G GMRS Mobile Radio 25 watt.
WRUU653 replied to WSBX980's topic in Guest Forum
I think it’s probably a decent radio but the DB-20G also has 500 memories while the DB-25 has 200 if that’s important to you. -
Welcome @jfelter, what he said ^^^

Change My Mind - I Don't Need Permission to Use Your Repeater
WRUU653 replied to marcspaz's topic in General Discussion
Thus my comment “for whatever good it does.” Kind of a here are the rules and guidelines now you all figure it out amongst yourselves while we here at the FCC attend to more important things approach. This wasn’t lost on me. I was just pointing out the wording of “may disallow” indicates you have the right to ask someone to leave, meaning they need your permission. As @OffRoaderX has pointed out many times, enforcement isn’t. The rules are what they are. Enforcement is or isn’t what it is. Manners and social decorum, respect for others, what do we have without that? You can’t force people to act like good humans. It’s better for everyone if we do. Does this change your mind? -
Change My Mind - I Don't Need Permission to Use Your Repeater
WRUU653 replied to marcspaz's topic in General Discussion
(1) Shall determine specifically which individuals, including family members, are allowed to operate (i.e., exercise operational control over) its GMRS station(s) (see paragraph (c) of this section); 3) May disallow the use of its GMRS repeater by specific persons as may be necessary to carry out its responsibilities under this section. Kind of seems like they are. That’s my take on it for whatever good it may do. -
No worries, I was sure you were only trying to help. I purposely didn’t quote your post so it wouldn’t be saved in mine.

Go to the repeater site. It’s the same log in as this site it but you have to do it separately. I use the map so I can see where they are, type in your area and click on the repeater and it’s info will come up. You can also click on “repeaters” and click “near me” or enter what you like.
-
@Northcutt114 just an FYI as I’m sure you are unaware and I’m sure your intentions were good but it is against the sites rules (found here) to post repeater information (especially tones on a private repeater) to the forum site. The forum is public while the repeater site info is reserved for members. You can link to the repeater and if the guest is a member they can see the info, but you shouldn’t post it here. Private content. Do not post sensitive information such as repeater PL/DPL (also known as privacy or CTCSS/DCS tones) tones outside of the Private Discussion forum. This is to protect sensitive information from being picked up and indexed by search engines such as Google and Bing. Also, do not post any personal information about our members, including but not limited to, their home address even if it is publicly available by searching online

One other thing I have noticed is I pick up RF noise from the programming cable that came with the radio if it’s left plugged into the computer with the other end not connected to anything. It’s enough to cause radios on my desk to stop scanning and hold squelch open on some frequencies and oddly they aren’t even frequencies near each other. Subsequently I always unplug that programming cable. The thing is I’m not complaining, I wouldn’t say any shortfalls of the radio really bother me. It was cheap, it works good, I get good audio reports, it’s small, plenty memories programmed in it and now chirp is available for it. Is it as good as my Icom 2730? No but it cost less than a hundred bucks. I like it. I got it to put in an ammo can that I could take camping but I haven’t gotten to that project yet and it lives on my desk at the moment.
-
Mine is the same. It’s not everything but I noticed it on some fire frequencies recently as we had a big fire here and we were next to an evacuation zone so I was scanning those. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but I didn’t have any tones set so maybe that played into it.

Welcome Pedro, I seem to recall seeing good coverage with repeaters there so suspect you wont be disappointed.
-
I have the 779 and occasionally the squelch will stay open from another radios transmission. Same fix of hitting the PTT button will clear it.

I believe most if not all clubs on this forum center around having access to a repeater or repeaters within a local area. Perhaps some are just for community of a given area. The point is they offer something that these members would not otherwise have unique to where they are. Your club however differs in that you seem to be suggesting charging for what is already here for free on the very site that already offers it. The old saying regarding business or product “find a need and fill it” comes to mind. Here I don’t see the need. Sure, that’s just my opinion. Perhaps I am missing something and happy to admit if I’m wrong. As a new license holder asking for money for something that exists for free I think you can understand the question of what it is and what’s the motive. As mentioned above you don’t need to justify to me or anyone else (other than perhaps those that give money) and it goes without saying you are free to do as you like. You may have great motives and intentions. That said when asking for money then questions are valid even if the way they get asked sometimes is not.
