  1. I think we can safely say it was a joke.
  2. It wasn’t that they didn’t try. The code wasn’t like other radios. The programmers hit a wall, multiple tickets had been opened but progress stalled. A few months back RT Systems cracked it and came out with a Windows version on their site. I suspect this enabled the Chirp team to finally move forward..
  3. Other than the one negative person whom we all know which as @SteveShannon mentioned is not because of who they are but rather the stuff they say I don’t see down voting based on who someone is. Could it happen? Sure but someone would just up vote them back. It’s just a means to elevate the best technical answer. I do prefer reading things in chronological order though as it’s easier for context and it would be nice if you could make that a default setting.
  4. This^^^ I like to program my radios so they are the same. Being able to copy and paste is very useful.
  5. The Retevis RA25 and the Anytone 779UV are also listed. I noticed that all three are separately listed as well and not the typical “see this or that model”. I for one am glad to see these added being a Mac guy.
  6. It works on a Mac.
  7. Well what the hell, I’ll jump in. I had a very good experience with BTWR customer service. I had a KG-Q10H and the last call icon didn’t work. I sent it back to them and they replaced it. They were pleasant and quick, my replacement was in the mail before I knew they received the one I sent back. They treated me great! The warranty is good for a year. I feel if you’re going to have an issue it’s likely going to show up before the warranty expires. At least this has been my experience. As for my Wouxun radios I have six, three or four are out warranty and continue to work.
  8. I don’t have any experience with Rugged Radios Headsets other than I did a radio check for a guy testing one out on his motorcycle and on my end it sounded pretty good. They have wired and bluetooth. There might be cheaper options out there. Good luck.
  9. Except it doesn’t say that. You added it. It says operating under the individual license AND properly identified in accordance with this section. You’ll notice there is a comma after “AND”. It’s not a separate rule the two statements are combined.
  10. I guess you didn’t read or the rules you agreed to read when you got your license Follow the rules or don’t but you are giving incorrect information. If people other than your family are using the repeater you absolutely are required to have you repeater ID. FCC Part 95.1751 (c): (c) Any GMRS repeater station is not required to transmit station identification if: (1) It retransmits only communications from GMRS stations operating under authority of the individual license under which it operates; and, (2) The GMRS stations whose communications are retransmitted are properly identified in accordance with this section. the “if” and the “and” are key to understanding the rule regarding the need for repeater ID. It doesn’t say “or”.
  11. Indeed it is. and for the low low cost of nothing you can be just like this satisfied customer. So don't wait, act now, a better life awaits with Steve's ass be gone method!!! Use it today!!!
  12. That looks very clean. Nice job.
  13. Congratulations on the test and welcome. Let me know if you hear a good recipe for navy bean soup. It’s my favorite ham soup
  14. No not that. The bike had cables that ran down the right side which I guess I didn’t clean, ended up on my right knee which wasn’t great when you can’t wear shorts at work.
  15. Every super hero needs a nemesis
  16. The moment you said GMRS node you lost the argument that you are not using it for linking radios via the internet. Like zello. Ya see Gmrs, the R stands for radio. And Allstar is allowed for amateur radio. Not GMRS. Calling @SteveShannon a noob is both inaccurate and rude. Cheers
  17. That sucks, I know what you’re going through. When I was younger I wasn’t affected by the stuff so I would be the one to clear it out. Then in my twenties I was hiking through it to a rock climbing location and yep same story. I went to the doctors and he says “you have poison oak”, but I don’t get it I tell him. He explained it’s an allergy, one that most people have and you can develop an allergy at any time. I avoid it obsessively now constantly pointing it out when the wife and I go hiking with the dog. I have a friend that can’t get sap from pine trees on him after years of handling them for a family Christmas tree farm he became allergic. Damn poison oak oil can stay on things that touched it too and get you a second time, wash anything that you think it might have touched. I got it off my mountain bike two weeks later because I missed a spot cleaning the bike after a fall into it. Worse part was I didn’t get it the day of the fall as I got it all off me in time but the next ride I got it off the bike.
  18. No. If people who’s ancestors have been here for tens thousands of years want to call themselves Native Americans or First Nations or anything else, I would give them the respect of honoring that.
  19. What other possible reason could you have… it’s like saying “no offense” right before you say something you know will offend. One does not negate the other. Now as for Buffalos. There are no buffalo here. Plenty of bison though. Common misconception. I hope I don’t rile up any buffaloes or bison for that matter.
  20. @WSHW974 please ignore the snide comments from this forum’s resident ass hat. You can certainly program tones in these first 30 channels. What they are referring to is that GMRS is a channel based service and so the frequencies are assigned to the channels and baked in. The first 22 are simplex and the next eight are for repeaters with the same receive frequencies as 15-22 and the transmit having a pre programmed + 5. (462.xxx Rx and 467.xxx Tx) No need to set the offset as it is also baked in. You can set tones for repeaters as well. Hope this helps.
  21. Think of all the fun that could be had if someone handed out some cheap FRS radios to the patients at the nursing home…
  22. Part of the problem with aluminum wiring in homes was an issue with dissimilar metals and how they expand and contract at different temperatures. Special outlets were used with aluminum screws but if the wrong outlet was used which typicaly had brass srews or copper wires joined with the aluminum and a joint compound (antioxidant, aka Noalox) wasn't used then arcing and oxidation would occur and it's all down hill once the arcing starts. Later people started using stab style connections on new outlets and these are a recipe for disaster. Larger feeders isn't an issue when wire is prepared properly and isn't as prone to outside movement like an outlet in a home that gets plugged into and out of constantly or your DIY people installing things incorrectly. Back in the day electricians would put noalox into wire nuts and use this for splicing. Then some manufacture saw this and made wire nuts with the compound pre installed and got UL listing and a patent. Damn why didn't I do that moment . More info than anyone wanted I'm sure. Anyway it does not hurt to put a thin layer of Noalox when connecting aluminum to another metal. You don't need a lot.
  23. Exactly this ^^^ The info was always there, it was just the reference to pages was incorrect in quite a few places if not all. I would just use a search on key words in the PDF to find relevant info to what I was looking for. I keep a PDF of all my manuals to reference and just replaced this one with the updated version. Shoutout to @dosw for passing along info of updated version.
  24. Have you tried contacting Retevis? They say they offer lifetime support. Here’s the email address for support. info@retevis.com
  25. Unfortunately it seems the volume knob is your only option on this. I've just got into the habit of using that. I agree it's a bit loud and unnecessary. We are not the only ones that think this and the start up tone are a bit much. If I was guessing they'll change this in the Plus model should one come out. I would hope anyway. Other than that I like this radio.
