Welcome @WSGP755 to the forum and our compulsive radio buyers support group
-
Thank you Steve for reporting back on your experience with this. Well worth the money if you ask me.
-
I have no idea, it hasn't arrived yet. I do get better than 5 watts on my 935G though.
-
I never thought this day would actually come. No Mac version yet but still it’s a good start. I wonder if now that RT has managed to achieve this if the folks at Chirp don’t take another stab at it. Anyway I imagine this software will be very popular. Bravo RT.
-
Just to clarify, 935G = GMRS with dual band receive and IP66. The 935H = Ham tri band (which like the Q10H can be unlocked if desired) and IP66. Q10H = quad band with AM airband receive and IP67. Good luck.

While I'm all for a continued discussion, just in case anyone missed it it has been nearly ten years since OP posted this question. I hope he isn't still trying to make this decision.

The term best is really up to what criteria you apply, there is no absolute. I see all the big names mentioned here already and while I doubt Midland comes to mind for anyone using the term best I would add that if you need to get through a firewall, have a limited size hole in which to do that and you are not comfortable cutting and redoing the cable end or mount than the Midland mount might be best for you. It appears to be yellow brass (I couldn’t find documentation) and the cable end removes to go through tight spaces. I used one to connect my mobile and have no issues so far two years and counting.

I would rather have one of each than two Q10h’s. Long answer- If it were a one or the other it would be the Q10H because it is quad band, IP67, super het. It’s probably going to be able to take a good beating. I really like my 935G plus. I’m pretty sure the battery life on my 935 last longer and I like how it fits in my hand. It is my favorite GMRS radio and recently I was wishing it did Ham. Even though I have the Q10H and other Ham HT’s. So two weeks ago I was looking at the KG-UV8H. I decided I really can’t justify it, I have other radios that will do everything it does despite my want. Did mention I have been stricken with the I want another radio affliction? The minute I saw the KG-935H and saw it was tri band I thanked myself for not giving in to my whim of getting the UV8H. Yeah I ordered a KG-935H three days ago. Well I’m off to my radio anonymous meeting, Anyone need a ride?

The guilt will slowly eat at your soul until you find yourself standing in the desert in bunny slippers howling at the moon and calling “CQ 10-4” repeatedly on some bubble pack FRS radios with the batteries in backwards? Or something like that. I wouldn’t risk it.
-
Yep, last active notification. It's now a must have. I usually monitor two frequencies and if you are not looking at the screen (and you wont be) when a call comes you won't know which one it was without it. I had it not working on one radio and I found I just wouldn't use that radio.

@WSFP960 It wont effect you one way or the other, you're good. Wecome to the forum.

Should I remove channels 8-14 from my radio? (Kenwood TK-372G)
WRUU653 replied to ElectricXpert's question in Technical Discussion
This is my problem, it's like we're always arguing about what I'm typing... no I don't want the word conquistador! Why do you do this spell check! Why! Geez! -
The Retevis RA87 has a squelch knob, I beleive it was a reset up Amateur radio so that might account for it. My Icom 2730A Ham radio has squelch knobs. It isn't very often I mess with them though, I might occasionally if it seems like I am picking up a higher noise level on a channel that isn't usually there but then that's it, that's the new setting I don't go back to it.
-
My first thought was squelch as well. However I do have a question, is it on all channels or just one? I ask because I get interference on one frequency in one vehicle. Edit- @MarkInTampa beat me to it.

I have never heard of such a thing??? What is this… what’s it called? GMRS linked repeater networks? Sounds made up.
-
I can appreciate your position though I do like the idea of posting even a closed repeater or maybe private is a better way to describe it, in an attempt to minimize people adding more repeaters near one on the same frequency. This is certainly at the discretion of the owner but I was wondering if the option of disabling requests was not available before or did it not work for another reason? I see this from time to time on open repeaters, I assume so they don’t get inundated with needless requests and yet more than once I’ve heard people say that they were frustrated that people sent messages to them when they already posted that it was open or as in your case closed and I wondered why they didn’t select requests disabled. Is it an issue with the site that this doesn’t work or is it a newer option?

Welcome all newcomers!

Good job. And yes a good catch by @WRZD706 on the offset. I also was thinking it should have been baked in not thinking it would be removed. I always download an extra file from the radio and only make the changes to one in case I need to go back. It also helps to compare files if you make a mistake somewhere… which I have done.

GMRS-16- 462.575 sits there already.

Line A and C Inquiry and Update from the FCC
WRUU653 replied to WRYC373's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
Yeah I ran into that too, as you know their site is not well laid out. Go to the License Manager page, log in and once you do that at near the top of the page you'll see this (if I rememer correctly the referance copy link is at the bottom of the page, don't click that one) click on "here" in the green box and it will take you to a page where you can choose which license you want to print and the print button will be in the lower right hand side. -

My old one had it, same as @SteveShannon I downloaded it again and it’s gone. Nice to see some repeater options open up for those areas and simplex as well. -
Please let me know if this is a dumb project idea...

I used it all up making high voices. -

This idea brings all kinds of ideas to mind. An HT that has cross band repeat tied to balloons or maybe depending on how high the balloons go how about an HT with Bluetooth connection? Interesting ideas that could be fun to test. My question would be how likely are you to have helium at the ready for an emergency? Still I’d be interested in seeing this tested. -

Gone the way of the DoDo. Mine is the same. Nor do I. I guess none of this ever happened. May I suggest a salute to our brothers and sisters North of Line A and East of Line C by pressing the PTT on channel 19 at high noon using the Roger beep. into a dummy load of course. -
It’s another radio and don’t you deserve it? Sorry, I’m also an enabler. Seriously though some things you may like about the KG-935G plus… More channels (999) VHF/UHF receive as well as FM radio dual band NOAA weather channels Here is a comparison video Randy did from the KG-905G to the 935g and while it is not the plus model you’ll find the comparisons helpful in seeing the difference from your current radio.
