  1. Give yourself at least 50’
  2. Another possibility is If you are listening for your voice on a second radio you will need to put some distance between it and the one you are transmitting on as they can interfere with each other.
  3. Some people just got to create an imaginary problem where none exists. An endless debate of an issue that isn’t.
  4. It’s not a base station… it’s a mobile.
  5. Call this emergency adjacent. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I took our dog to the beach and on the drive home I had the scanner running on my Icom mobile when I picked up a call on the Papa Repeater system. A man had fallen in his garage, spent an hour crawling to get his radio and called for someone to call a lift assist in for him. I looked at my wife, she grabbed her phone and I reached for the mic, someone else grabbed the call before I could and he did an incredible job, asked all the right questions and relayed the info to the local (local to the person in distress) authorities in real time. Sometimes the right tool is the one you can reach.
  6. Try testing at each of the power output settings. I thought I read somewhere of an issue with high not actually being high after a firmware upgrade.
  7. I reported this to Rich @rdunajewski for you. He’s the owner of the site and can fix it for you. p.s. don’t beat yourself up, you’re not the first and likely won’t be the last. At least you recognized the problem.
  8. Folks! Step right up to yet another illegal linking thread take over. I was wondering how long before this thread also became a topic on linking. Is no thread safe? Perhaps FRS or MURS? Stay tuned.
  9. Most importantly just because you have a tone set and can’t hear other traffic doesn’t mean it’s not there. You could be walking all over other people on the same channel. Calling it another channel implies that you are broadcasting on another frequency just because you have tones set. Which you are not.
  10. You are in good hands here and I have little to add other than to support what @SteveShannon and @WRYZ926 have said about Amazon (oddly enough) not being the most inexpensive place to get some radio supplies. I have also used Ham Radio Outlet and had great customer support. Gigaparts is another option as well. Doesn’t hurt to shop prices. Good luck, looking forward to info about how your project goes.
  11. Yeah a built in community for sure. And cross band repeater capabilities…
  12. Many more repeaters and simplex frequencies would be the biggest difference I can think of.
  13. Flowers and chocolates… oh wait sorry that’s something else.
  14. The question wasn’t about linked repeaters or if they were legal or not. He said he was told that the system was linked that’s it. The question was about contacting people in a particular area. Not every thread needs to be a debate about linking. Funny thing is I am not a fan of the idea of linking GMRS but come on we don’t need every thread hi jacked to the subject.
  15. I can’t believe I’ve never tried this before. It may not be that uncommon as I was able to do this with Wouxun UV9PX, KG-Q10H, KG-S88G and Baofeng UV-9G. Nice to know indeed. edit: add the KG-935Plus to the list
  16. I have some old Motorola FRS bubble pack talkabouts and I am fairly certain they are missing these too. This makes it fun for putting in PL tones by number, better to know the Hz. Motorola Tones .pdf
  17. No worries at all. It’s not you. He has an opinion on the subject of linking and his rabid devotion to the topic is now bleeding onto threads where it doesn’t belong.
  18. Repeater channels in GMRS transmit a +5 so yes in this case 467.675 would be correct. However it looks like you have a ham radio (not certified for GMRS) and I am not sure if it is able to transmit on GMRS frequencies or if there is ability to unlock.
  19. It sounds like you want to use the repeater but on separate tones than regular traffic which can be done by putting in a second set of tones on the repeater. Of course it would need to be your repeater.
  20. An eight year old girl armed with a soccer ball will knock that radio right out of your hand! No comms, no comms for you.
  21. Our own @marcspaz has a really informative video here. You’ll find that Chirp now has software for the Retevis RA87 . NotaRubicon aka @OffRoaderX has a video on programming here.
  22. Welcome to the forum @Horsesrear
