  1. No they are not. This is the forum which is public. The tones on the map repeater site is not public. You need to be signed in to see them. In case you missed my previous post. Per the owner of this site @rdunajewski the rules are as follows with an explanation of why. Private content. Do not post sensitive information such as repeater PL/DPL (also known as privacy or CTCSS/DCS tones) tones outside of the Private Discussion forum. This is to protect sensitive information from being picked up and indexed by search engines such as Google and Bing. Also, do not post any personal information about our members, including but not limited to, their home address even if it is publicly available by searching online General Discussion is not in the private discussion forum. Here is a complete list of this sites rules . I don’t make the rules of the forum but I try follow them. You may want to note number one since you signature is an advertisement.
  2. Intresting that in this video he says that the Larsen version has a plastic base and needs a no ground plane antenna. Here is the link to the version he shows that has a metal base so you can use a ground plane antenna. https://theantennafarm.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=9280
  3. This is great! I had no idea this existed.
  4. @BoxCar pretty much nailed it in his post. If you decided to add a repeater in a busy area I would try the least used, furthest away from you frequency with different tones. Of course if some of those repeaters are open for you to use you may find you don’t need to add another.
  5. Welcome @WSEV474KennyS . Don’t believe him Kenny, he really doesn’t, Steve’s one of the smart ones.
  6. Let’s take those one at a time. Yes. no. what about it? and no. If I give or sell a family member or friend a car I’m not paying for their insurance. If you want it for your own uses you can turn requests off, don’t list the tones or don’t list it at all. I guess I just don’t see a problem here that can’t be solved by making a decision of what you want to do. Listing the repeater on Mygmrs with a request button and expecting people not to request to use it is beyond comprehension. It seems like you want to be unburdened by request and possibly the repeater. I was making a suggestion that rather than walking away from it you might hand the burden to someone that would want it. I have included a screen shot for an example of request disabled. It’s up to you to make the decision… or not. You asked and people answered.
  7. Perhaps there is someone that uses the repeater that you may feel would be a good steward for it that you could sell or gift it to.
  8. Yes it is but not specifically, it sold as “business band and GMRS mobile” which is a bit broader. But again I’m just cautioning someone that may not have your skills on “GMRS specific antenna” trimming.
  9. I absolutely agree. However the Tram 1174 isn’t sold as a GMRS specific antenna (that I’m aware of) and my comment was about antennas sold for specifically for GMRS. My point being if you purchase an GMRS only antenna you likely won’t be trimming it. Also any antenna that has duel frequencies or broader frequencies will suffer in some areas so as you mentioned may need some tuning if you want something specific out of it. edit- I mentioned this not to be argumentative but rather to caution someone of trying to tune an antenna that likely wouldn’t need it and may ruin it.
  10. Which isn’t accessible unless you’re registered with your license on the site. So just a heads up it is against this sites rules to do so outside of the Private Discussion form for reasons stated below. For that reason I keep at least the name of the repeater unknown while discussing the particulars. Private content. Do not post sensitive information such as repeater PL/DPL (also known as privacy or CTCSS/DCS tones) tones outside of the Private Discussion forum. This is to protect sensitive information from being picked up and indexed by search engines such as Google and Bing. Also, do not post any personal information about our members, including but not limited to, their home address even if it is publicly available by searching online.
  11. I would add most (at least the ones I’ve seen) GMRS antennas come pre tuned and would not likely benefit from trimming.
  12. The forum and the map/repeater site need to be logged into separately but will use the same passcode.
  13. Apologies for the off topic but yes they are, good eye and thanks. One of my retirement projects. I installed Bluetooth. used it for Christmas music with family here last year. Dual cone Pioneer car speakers I had laying around. Transformer is below the wire wheel base
  14. I agree. My understanding is if the call sign is already registered here it can’t be used again but @rdunajewski (aka Rich) is really the person to ask. I reported my own post in this thread so hopefully he will see it and properly respond to your (op) question.
  15. This ^^^ If the repeater is open and free to use it's easy to fall into the stale category. If it's been more than a year since the owner has logged into their repeaters on the site it goes stale. It happens to a friend of mine every year. A year goes by faster than you think.
  16. I got my GMRS lic. first and then my amateur lic. as did a few of my friends. Of the people I know with both it's about 50/50 of what they got first. I can't say if that translates out beyond my world or not or how or why it matters. That's just my experience thus far.
  17. Exactly!!! The memorizing argument is ridiculous, How did you learn anything ever in life without some memorizing. Even as a kid we used flash cards to help learn things. For sure hands on helps with retention but there is no retention without memory.
  18. He may be wrong but as he does often he did answer first. @WSEW200 could we see a photo? Maybe that would help with the brainstorming. Could you securely shim it to prevent it sitting on an angle with the screws going through the shim maybe? Don't pay any mind to the idea that a lip mount won’t work, I use a variation on the lip mount idea. This actually mounts using the bolts for the hood hinge. This mount is on a Tacoma and made by Rugged Radios. I’m not sure if one is available for the Frontier. I have had very good success with both the MXTA26 and a Comet SBB5. Not a problem.
  19. I stand corrected, my apologies. I saw the Southwest net mentioned and didn’t fully read the link. my bad. I think @rdunajewski would have this info.
  20. Oops my bad
