  1. That looks ideal. Nice job.
  2. I am unsure if the shark fin on our 2018 Subaru Forester is more than just GPS. I’ve been searching but nothing conclusive yet. Of course once you drop the headliner you will know. If I were to get one of the combo NMO/GPS antennas I might go with this one. I remembered that it has a metal mounting and housing, better for the ground plane. I’m not positive if the other one I posted is (though I think it said it was). I did take a look at the area the moon roof retracts to and at least on ours it looks like it comes back pretty far. I know it wouldn’t be in the most ideal position but I might opt for a lip mount that goes on the rear hatch myself. Sometimes good enough is good enough. I’ll definitely follow your progress. Oh here is a video I found on installing the EM Wave.
  3. Another option is a mount like this that combines the satellite antenna and an NMO. What year is your Forester? I ask because we have a 2018 (with moon roof) that currently doesn't have a radio so I'm interested in how your install goes.
  4. Yes that’s correct. @WRXB215’s answer was quicker than mine and dead on thus I suspect also showing the importance coffee plays in radio
  5. Actually this forum has an amateur radio category and since it does amateur radio posting is obviously welcome here by the owner. You might make the case this should be posted there but since it was posted under the category of general discussion it could be said it’s appropriate here as well. Come on, you should know this by now.
  6. What @OffRoaderX said exactly, the fact that you heard it on the other radio after you let the button go is why I thought this.
  7. It’s always possible that a repeater could be down.
  8. Okay, I just wanted to make sure how you were testing between radios. The reason is if you are on the repeater channel with both you should only hear between them if they go through the repeater because the transmit is on a 467 and the receive is on 462.
  9. I have certainly been close enough to open the squelch on a repeater that I wasn’t close enough to be heard with a clear signal before.
  10. If you are hearing between radios and you are on the repeater channel you showed in your post then you are going through the repeater. As @SteveShannon has said not all repeaters kerchunk.
  11. I agree that because you are hearing the repeater ID that you likely are hitting the repeater I’m leaning toward desense for the reason you’re not hearing yourself. I think to know for sure you will need another party or put some distance between the two radios and record one of them. Have you heard anyone else on the repeater?
  12. Good catch, I was focused on the Tx and Rx info that fell below his image and missed that. My bad.
  13. Eh… still, pretty good.
  14. Not that simple. And since you didn’t watch it (clearly) your statement falls flat.
  15. Welcome Mike, I’ve never been to south east Massachusetts but it didn’t strike me as a bad place. There’s plenty of good people willing to help here. There may be some clubs out your way.
  16. I like that one too. Spoiler ahead, I really liked the point in the story where they basically point out the importance of using the correct antenna for the job…
  17. You’re welcome, you are on the right track. Also @SteveShannon’s info is always good.
  18. They’re called aftermarket
  19. The troll from the desert has an opinion. You know what they say about those…
  20. Thanks, I missed that and had looked up the Tram 1191
  21. Are you typing in a location or using location near me? If the latter, it’s possible your browser isn’t set with permission to use your location. That’s just a guess.
  22. This video was just posted to YouTube. I have no affiliation with it but I have seen the presenter’s videos before and he follows the science of things. I have long been fascinated with the Amelia Earhart story and this video largely focuses on the radio aspects of her final flight. I thought you all might enjoy this. Cheers
  23. OP's statment he says monitor for traffic not talk to random men and he mentiond channel 19 which has been embraced as a highway channel partially do to Randy. So that's where I interpret the question to relate to vehicle traffic. I guess that's just where my mind goes. zoom zoom beep beep. "What is the best GMRS channel to monitor for traffic; I'm new & I've heard nothing on ch - 19."
