I did test this with my Mac desktop and had the same results. I also put in a report to Rich.

And since repeaters and HTs aren’t listed my mobile mounted in the house isn’t a base station. Rather it is a mobile at rest.

Seems he wants help when he wants it but isn’t interested in giving it. The snarky “40 years using radios” yet ask for help that won’t reveal any info on what he did wrong that might be helpful for others is telling. As much as I hate the term (I feel it’s over used), what we have here is a bonafide Sad Ham. Some people are gatekeepers and just take. Oh well.

@LeoG reading your story gave me a genuine smile. As someone who feels lucky to have my wife I appreciate hearing someone else’s positive experiences. You are a lucky guy.

Perhaps it was a joke of the day? I’m reminded of the “that’s not how any of this works” meme

Having someone else’s file unless they are programming the same repeaters will give you an idea of what things look like but won’t be exactly the same as what you need. It would certainly be more helpful if you gave some more info to the problem and shared a screen shot of your chirp file to help diagnose what’s happening. It could be quite a number of things.

Deregulation; here’s your opportunity to make a difference!
WRUU653 replied to SteveShannon's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
Doesn’t sound like something I’d do. Interesting read though. For those that missed it you purpose not just GMRS but MURS and CB linking too… it may be safe to say that you really like the idea of linking. -
Does anyone think this is remotely a thing that is on the radar of law enforcement? “What ya got Bob? DUI? B and E? Domestic…?” “Na man this guy doesn’t have a valid GMRS license!” “What kind of animal is he?!!”
-
I agree, but then again when you consider you’d be putting it on a car that cost about 150 grand brand new it seems like a drop in the bucket.

Check out this guys solution. He says he uses a no ground plane antenna for vhf/uhf ham. Found one similar here although it says it's a tunable CB antenna from Firestik. Then I saw this, it looks like maybe a glass mount or lip, I don't know. He's going to fast around Nurburgring to see it very well I don't know if any of these are options you would consider but it was fun looking at what people have done. Good luck.

If you have a type accepted GMRS radio the offset should be baked in for you. A number of diy repeater channels should be also.
-
No, it’s an example.

Fixed station. A station at a fixed location that directly communicates with other fixed stations only. This statement would seem to indicate that a repeater is not a fixed station as it does not communicate with only fixed stations. Therefore talking to it is not the action of a fixed station. I will agree that this topic has been discussed for what seems an eternity. With some grasping the rules and others arguing the perceived vagueness. I would agree that for a radio service intended for friends and family the FCC could or should have written the rules for such. That said, all the debate is for what end I have no idea. Who is being affected negatively here? As Bill Murray stated in Meatballs it just doesn’t matter.

Any Coral Springs / Fort Lauderdale GMRS users here?

Martin aka WSCD723 made this post a year ago. I would guess that by now he has confirmed that his radios work. -
Using The Correct Tools For The Job Are Always Essential!!
WRUU653 replied to tcp2525's topic in General Discussion
Wow... Sorry to hear that. Electricity definitely jumps. Good on the two that said no. Working High voltage wasn't my favorite thing to do but when I did we always had a tailgate meeting to go over the task step by step and I always asked if anything seemed wrong or missing, I wanted input. If two people are saying no it sure would be cause to reevaluate the situation. Always more impotant to go home at the end of the day. -
I guess the gps would be something I’d be interested in hearing about also. I believe this would be the first we have seen this in a GMRS mobile. Does it rely on the phone app for this or does it operate on its own?

I would add make sure what you think you’re testing is what you think it is before putting that meter on it also. I got called out for a blown fuse on 4160 three phase. Each leg supplied a group of transformers and the electricians (not our company) thought the high side was 480… they opened up the back, one guy put the probes on while the other held the 600 volt rated meter. They both lived but they both went to the burn ward. Be safe and pass on stories where things can go wrong so the newbies may learn and hopefully avoid bad mistakes. -

Yeah they can be finicky, I trust them to tell me something is hot, I don’t trust them to tell me it’s not. Klein has certainly made some money off of me over the years too -
I’d put my money on the latter. But at least exercise is supposed to be good for you.

I agree that good tools are a joy to use. Like radios it seems I can never have enough. As for Flukes I have the Fluke 16 and Fluke T5 1000. Before I retired I used to have the 87, the 376 FC with the flexible clamp (that was a nice meter) and a 771 milliamp clamp on (usefull for 4-20 controls). All good meters. -
It seems to have some promising features. I guess I'd be interested in how well the programming app works, how you like the Bluetooth and it's multitude of options and do you find it to be an improvement in quality from it's BTech mobile predecessors? Looking forward to your video and thoughts.

I thought perhaps since OP didn’t specify GMRS repeaters in their statement (I fully acknowledge that’s likely what they were talking about). it would be worth mentioning ham repeaters as well. Which according to Repeater Book there are 1,707 Texas repeaters in the database. Add the 112 GMRS repeaters or 263 if you count stale and offline repeaters listed here, and all the repeaters that are not listed here it would be safe to say Texas has a significant number of repeaters. Hopefully OP finds this encouraging and if there are no repeaters in their area because like it was mentioned it’s a big place, do as @OffRoaderX often says you can be the pillar of your community and add one. He has an affiliate link below for you.

Good info here. Thanks. Chirp really is your friend with this radio. I would add for someone new to remember that the programming for the RA87 has a left and right side. Cut and paste makes it nice going from side to side if you want to duplicate things. I’ll use Chirp to set one side for local channels and repeaters and set up the other for travel repeaters.

Yeah but some of us enjoy helping others out.
