  1. The KG-935G plus, the KG-S88G and the KG-Q10G all have talk around just to name a few. All are Part 95(E) approved... so yeah no, you are incorrect on this matter.
  2. Some radios also have what is known as “talk around”, this basically lets you transmit on the same channel in simplex (around the repeater) to see if you can reach the other party without going through the repeater. This can be helpful because it maintains the tones you have set for the repeater but uses simplex. Also you don’t need to be monitoring simplex separately on the B channel while using A or lets say you are using a radio that isn’t dual receive like the KG-S88G for instance, you can hit a side button to activate the “talk around” feature and see if you can reach the other party on simplex even though they are still set to receive from the repeater. It’s a pretty common feature these days and perfect for the scenario you described.
  3. @Sparks46, I can relate to going through stuff from a grandfather and the connection one can have there. Oh and yeah what @SteveShannon said . 73 to you sir and welcome to the forum.
  4. My point was not that someone shouldn’t care but that they are free to care and be interested in what they want. I’m not sure you understood where I was coming from. Perhaps I don’t understand your point. My father is from Michigan for what it’s worth.
  5. I can’t help but see the irony of someone in Southern California who is reading a thread clearly labeled about line A and C which they themselves are no where near questioning why someone in Utah cares about line A and C. Why would you want know things? Why wouldn’t you?
  6. Well apparently it's suppose to but mine does not. I'm trying to find a fix with the people at Buy Two Way Radios. I tried doing a factory reset and while it's reseting most everything it's not everything... Apologies for inadvertently highjacking the thread.
  7. Same here. Other than that it’s a good radio, IP67, quad band, feels rugged. Edit- just to be sure I didn’t have something off I checked the manual and they show it on there display page (20) but no where else, and it’s not on the screen… at least not on mine. Perhaps I’ll reach out to “buy two way radios” as to why it’s not there but it’s in the manual. I’ll let you know if I hear anything.
  8. I do like the duel PTT as well. The one thing I wish the Q10H/G had is an indicator if it was the top or bottom channel that received last. Helps when responding to a call when you weren’t looking at the screen.
  9. I'll echo a lot of what @WRHS218 has said if not all. I also have the ham version of this (KG-UV9PX) and it's a decent radio. I have had no issues with so far. I use it often for amateur radio. It is a bit more to navigate. For GMRS though I also prefer the KG-935G Plus hands down. It's just a good radio. I would add it's slightly easier to see the 935 screen outdoors than the UV9GX. Something to consider if you plan to use your radios outdoors. additional opinion that no one asked for... I like simple for my GMRS use. I also have the KG-S88G and I was looking at the new KG-S65G, I was thinking this would be a good radio for handing to the wife or other non radio geek types. I just wish they had made it IP67 like the other S series radios.
  10. Sure, maybe you did but what about that poor antenna?
  11. I also have the Wouxun Q10H and really like it. Since the question was about GMRS radios its sister the Wouxun Q10G has both NOAA weather alerts and is rated IP-67.
  12. The only repeater I see on the map near you on repeater #22 says that permission is required and they don’t list the tones. ??? Where did you get the info for 141.3? Edit: The reason I ask is are you sure you have the right tone set? Also if this is the same repeater than yes permission would be needed and they should give you the proper tones when they grant permission.
  13. That could be true, I wouldn’t doubt that, but that’s not the same as they have no way to do it and just because they haven’t doesn’t make it okay if you don’t have permission. Which was my point all along, not much more to say on the subject.
  14. Scofflaws, ne’er do wells, ruffians… the linkers were a mad bunch snapping their nasty antenna whips, growling at old women and kicking rocks at children. Then law came to town, a man with a badge THE FCC!!! …sorry I was imagining a 60’s TV show that never was carry on.
  15. Well said, I had to quote you because I wasn’t able to give a like and a laughing emoji and the term “jackass hunting” made me laugh out loud. I got to clean up this coffee now
  16. Why would you say they have no way to fine you? If you have been told not to use it and you are reported and they catch you, they certainly can fine you. If they do or not is another matter. It’s probably not a huge issue on their plate. Not when you tell people they don’t need permission you’re not. The repeater is private property and you are free to talk on GMRS channels without controlling or using the repeater. There are not two sides, the rules are what they are and any way you put it using a repeater that you have been denied permission to is wrong. It’s not just an opinion it’s in the FCC rules and it’s common decency.
  17. Well that sucks. Sorry to hear that.
  18. I believe you can with premium membership.
  19. Are you saying your that guy that "no means no" doesn't apply to? Because you're the one telling people they don't need permission. It's not a problem for me. I go by typical societal norms, if I were asked not to use a repeater I wouldn't use it. Why would I? Seems simple enough to me. If someone says no and you keep being a dick and using their repeater I'm gonna guess they would file a complaint and at the very least having said no, the repeater owner is no longer responsible for the actions of the denied persons actions on their equipment. Lots of people put up repeaters for private use, for family, for farms... I like the idea of open repeaters but you are not inherently entitled to use someones repeater. Telling a self professed noob that they don't need permission to use someones repeater while making false claims that the FCC said the repeater owner can't stop you is in poor judgment. That isn't correct and it isn't helpful to someone looking for real information.
  20. I don't have this radio but maybe my two cents will help. As mentioned by @dosw, when programming Air Band in Chirp be sure to select AM in the mode column. Also some radios that do Air Band receive will only do so in the upper display and not the lower. Good luck.
  21. I was just thinking this. It’s an illusion. Of course the minute you recognize that everybody has to get their own license. theoretically that is. In the real world it just doesn’t matter. because all the really good looking girls would still go out with the guys from Mohawk because they've got all the money!
  22. You already seem to have a good understanding of your radios so that’s great. One thing I’ll say is if you have two radios right next to each other they can desense each other. So when testing your repeater contact move them apart maybe 50’. You’re on the right track.
  23. Oh please show us where they said this . You are flat wrong. Here’s what the FCC says d) Individual licensee duties. The holder of an individual license: (1) Shall determine specifically which individuals, including family members, are allowed to operate (i.e., exercise operational control over) its GMRS station(s) (see paragraph (c) of this section); (2) May allow any person to use (i.e., benefit from the operation of) its GMRS repeater, or alternatively, may limit the use of its GMRS repeater to specific persons; (3) May disallow the use of its GMRS repeater by specific persons as may be necessary to carry out its responsibilities under this section.
