  1. Why do you think he’s a HAM? He is not. Your anger is misplaced.
  2. Here is a chart that shows the eight repeater channels in the red box (23-30, aka RPT-1 through RPT-8) as described by @OffRoaderX.
  3. He’s a one trick pony and he doesn’t seem to answer direct questions like this. I have started looking at his comments as if they were from a bot that only has one type of response… it’s just incapable of doing anything else.
  4. And then what? Radioddity GM-30 plus is not Chirp supported at this time.
  5. Pretty much. The buttons also have an orange border making it easy to see at a glance. The radio comes with a defalt of the top button keying the selected screen area which can be quite confusing when you hit the top button and it keys the bottom. I recommend using the settings to asign the top button to the top and the bottom to the bottom. This just makes intuitive sense.
  6. I’m in the I haven’t given it much thought camp. I guess I prefer a more stout PTT as it would seem less likely to press unintentionally. One thing I do like is the dual PTT on the Wouxun KG-Q10H/G as it makes it very easy to keep track of transmitting on the upper or lower channel. You do have to select it to do this in settings.
  7. There are lots of good radios out there. The Wouxun KG-935G plus is certainly one at the top of my list for an HT. For Mobile the KG-1000 plus has bells and whistles. The right radio for you could include many factors that only you can determine (price, waterproof, number of channel spaces, simple or complex, and so on). Whatever you choose ignore those that tell you that you chose wrong and enjoy. Most of all, good luck stopping at one
  8. I used one of these to relocate the mic plug for my Icom IC-2730A.
  9. If by the club you mean The Mesa Crest Club if you click on the link and post your question in their forum you may have better luck than asking in the overall forums general area. Good luck.
  10. I use Chirp and the red Wouxun cable from By Two Way Radios which is the first one you referance. I use a Mac so I tend to use Chirp because they are Mac compatible. Some of the radios are Mac supported by RT and they have a good reputation.
  11. It’s much brighter than either of them. It’s very nice for seeing the screen in the outdoors!
  12. The advantage of the Channel Wizard, its function really is it puts all the settings for creating a new channel in one location. This is much simpler than moving all around the menu to put things in one at a time. Having now tried it I have to say it’s a pretty nice feature.
  13. That’s kind of you to say. I try and help when I can and if I can. There are some good people here and smarter than me. What makes someone good or helpful isn’t predicated on their geography. You’ll find them all over the map. You don’t have to look very hard to see that. I have had this radio for some time and to be honest I was in the same boat as @WRNU354 and I just hadn’t bothered with the Channel Wizard feature before. So I also gave it a go and I can confirm once you save the channel that’s is as far as the Channel Wizard is concerned, channel wizard is no longer looking at the channel you saved. Your radio is working properly. Now that I have used this I agree with @WRNU354 that this is a great way to add a channel while on the road. Perfect looking up a repeater on the map and adding it without having to bust out the laptop.
  14. Worth the money too I think. I never hear complaints about their software.
  15. It may have been true two years ago but no that’s not what’s holding things up. Go to chirp and do a search on the models and you’ll find they did open up various new model issues under the different models. It looks like they hit a wall. RT software has recently cracked the Anytone model that I believe was found to work on the DB20 so there is hope chirp may succeed. Remember these people at chirp volunteer so they may or may not get to it. Meanwhile you can buy the Anytone RT software though at present it’s only for windows.
  16. Assuming you programmed in more than 74 channels. Have you tried downloading from the radio again to see what's actually there? I don't know this radio personally but chirp should tell you what you were able to put in.
  17. @WRNU354 I suspect that where things are may very well effect how other things work. I have mine set with the top PF1 button short press for flashlight, long press for FM radio (I never use). The bottom PF2 button short press for monitor and long press for weather. It works good that way for me.
  18. So when you heard a noise after transmitting did the bar turn blue? If so what you may have heard is a squelch tail from the repeater which means you probably hit it. Perhaps no one was there to respond or sometimes you can be close enough to reach it but not quite transmit through it. If you're only a few miles I would think you are good but hills can impede that.
  19. The red bar just means you are transmitting, it will have a blue bar if your radio is receiving. Meaning if you get a transmit or squelch tail back from the repeater it will be blue
  20. I saw that too. I think I would prefer using a Midland MXTA26 antenna if using that mount to get it up higher from the hood but lots of jeeps use a similar mounting.
  21. Welcome to the forum. I know you’re new but you will find Southern California has quite a lot of repeaters. A massive number by comparison to most places. Maybe a few less where you are but still more than most. When going to the map page click on the gear icon in the upper left corner and select stale and offline repeaters as well and you’ll find a few more. If the owner hasn’t updated their repeater info in more than a year it will fall into the sale category. Cheers.
  22. I would go with @SteveShannon’s method. It’s probably the best and easiest solution… still @dosw’s post of $5 online Cantonese tutors could be effective after some effort and time and shouldn’t be discounted.
  23. Check out this Bronco Sport forum. Several different approaches to your exact situation. One drilled the roof and he gives measurements as to where. Anyway looks like a few options to consider. Good luck.
  24. Looks like they didn’t fill the notch with an excess of solder. I wouldn’t worry about it. If you’re concerned, leave the cable unattached and the antenna removed and take an ohm meter and test that there is no continuity between the center and shield. I’m sure it’s probably fine. edit- as @OffRoaderX said, test that it’s not shorted. This is good practice regardless of what the ends look like especially after dragging the cable through the firewall and what not.
