  1. Here is a video that may help you get things figured out. @marcspaz is a contributor here and very helpful. You’ll get there.
  2. You won’t communicate on simplex for a repeater. Simplex is for radio to radio and won’t use the offset. The offset makes you transmit at 467.xxx but the receive is the same at 462.xxx
  3. Repeater 19 is channel 27 and 462.650. It will already have a built in offset of +5 on Tx but you will need to add the tones for the repeater you are using. Go to menus 9 and 10 to enter your tones. I have no issues with programming in this radio. You have a great GMRS radio.
  4. perhaps the repeater is in a time warp and you can call people in the past.
  5. I think it’s good to remember that it’s radio and radio isn’t private. You can’t control how people want to use it or what people want to use it and certainly not if they are within the rules. Respectfully, there are cell phones for conversations you would rather were just between you and your people. I do understand where you are coming from regarding your wife being made uncomfortable and that is unfortunate that happened to be sure and shouldn’t. If on simplex and you don’t want to be intruded on you could set up tones to try and eliminate some unwanted bother. As for someone asking for your call sign, I have not heard anyone do this on GMRS simplex ever but if you are on simplex you could just as easily tell them you are on FRS and not to worry about it. I personally would expect that two people talking without call signs was just that. However if you’re using a repeater, well at the very least the owner certainly has the right to ask you for a call sign, after all it is their equipment. I suspect where the population is denser you might have more to deal with. Where I am there isn’t a lot of traffic on GMRS and seems to be enough room for all. You will hear occasional conversation on GMRS repeaters often it will be someone on vacation and they are looking to see if they can reach it from where they are and someone local will jump on and respond. You might hear some simplex traffic that will be a couple or friends traveling in separate vehicles, the occasional farm communication or even a daycare. Once I heard a young daughter giving dad a play by play report of where she and her mom were to her dad, “now we are at the post office” lol, adorable. I never hear anyone unwanted jump in those conversations. That’s just my experience where I am.
  6. It may be an old thread but this is a unique use that I had not heard or thought of. Thanks for sharing.
  7. You may be hearing this repeater, as previously mentioned you will need to put the tones in your radio for repeaters. You might not reach it from your location, keep in mind a repeater can reach out further than you might just due to its height, power and antenna. Mostly height. If you haven't used the repeater page before just know that you have to sign in there separate from the forum even though it's the same sign in to see the tones. Welcome and good luck.
  8. Whhhaat kind of ice cream?
  9. Congratulations! Let the purchasing begin…
  10. sign into the repeater/map page, not the forum and click on control panel and then subscriptions...
  11. I also aced my Technician test and I had not studied for the General so when they offered to let me take it I kind of wanted to go out on the high of having done perfect so I didn't take it. Now I just haven't been consistant in putting the time in due to outside distractions. I won't say I wished I had because who knows and I did enjoy the drive home that day. I'll get there. I don't think it's a hobby where you'll ever know it all, at least I don't think I will. I kind of like that. always something to learn.
  12. Couldn't have said it better.
  13. important evidence attached for context
  14. Until you mentioned this I had forgotten of an issue I had once where when I had simultaneous receive turned on and would scan on say the upper section while set to a local repeater on the lower the scanning would stop on a GMRS channel where I would pick up a local medical frequency. I don’t remember the exact combination but it was always a medical response channel coming in on GMRS. Once I turned simultaneous receive off the issue went away.
  15. RT responded to my inquiry about the AT-779 software for Mac. “Yes, more than likely. There is no specific date at this time.”
  16. Congratulations! Sounds like you are off to a great start.
  17. Already have, I’m just waiting for them to respond. I’ll report back when I hear from them.
  18. I’m curious if they plan on a Mac version of the DB20 aka RA25 aka AT-779 software.
  19. I can confirm @WRYZ926’s info on unlocking and battery compatibility with the KG-935G, this is a different battery than the KG-UV9 batteries.
  20. Yeah I saw that but I'm leery of using it. I would love to hear if someone tries this but not me. I don't want to brick this radio. I have programmed my most used things directly and I am happy to wait for Mel to put out the Chirp software. He has been given a radio from Buy Two Way Radios and being that the radio is much like the KG-935G Plus I doubt it will be a large undertaking.
  21. It’s done using the software.
  22. Is it. I don't think it is... ...as you see, it's a beautiful day, the beaches are open and people are having a wonderful time.
  23. The answer to your question is yes you can transmit on those frequencies/channels. You mentioned removing the offsets… Typically a type accepted GMRS radio will have 15-22 already programmed without an offset. Offsets are preset for repeaters above 22. They may be labeled RPTR 15 and so on or 23, 24, … and so on or even RPTR 1, RPTR 2… but simplex channels won’t come with an offset so there is no repeater input frequency to remove.
  24. Good morning. I think you misunderstood. @brasda91 has already paid the fees to remove ads and wants to know why they are still there. He is just trying to get what he has paid for. This is an issue for Rich.
  25. @brasda91 as Steve mentioned this problem has come up before. As a premium member that is logged in you shouldn’t have to use an ad blocker to remove the ads. I am wondering if you have other options that are provided by the premium membership? Access to posts in classified section, unlimited likes on post? In any event I also reported your post so that it may get @rdunajewski’s attention, as the owner he is the one who can ultimately help you. Good luck.
