  1. Seems to me “some people” have very strong opinions about how and what people can and can’t talk about on repeaters they don’t even own. This us vs them rhetoric is ridiculous. It’s just fn radios people, not the Middle East. You can turn the knob or oh wait if only there was a way to have private conversations with people we know without all the RF turf war tensions. Google it on your iPhone. Go sports team go . If I may interject some sarcasm of my own… Sad hams? Sad GMRSer or is it antihamite? Oh life is so horrible, why can’t I control how hams (AKA other licensed GMRS users) talk on repeaters that aren’t mine? Damn those sad hams! Damn appliance operators! Geezus! Funniest thread ever.
  2. Oh no it isn't just you. I saw it. I've been marveling at the irony.
  3. Welcome new Mygmrs members @WSCD623 and @WRKW564
  4. I agree with all you have said. I would add the Q10H takes a pretty good beating too. I have now added it to the radios I have dropped and it survived. It’s slow for scanning but I don’t use it for that.
  5. No. It depends on whether you choose top or bottom. This is done with the exit button and indicated with the arrow left of the channel name.
  6. I’m not absolutely sure about your particular radio but I think you’ll find DIY 31 would be the same as RPTR 1 (AKA 23). DIY 35 will be the same as RPTR 5 (AKA 27). Changing the frequency may not work on preprogrammed DIY channels.
  7. Welcome to the forum @WSCE937
  8. The +5 offset will already be programmed for the repeater channels so you should only have to worry about installing the tones. If you have repeaters that use the same frequencies you can program the channels following 30 with more repeater channels by duplicating what is programmed from 23-30. Hope this helps. edit - one more thought here, some people have been having issues with channel 15 on some Baofeng radios so I guess that’s something to watch for. I understand there is a software fix or return it.
  9. The type of truck may help in suggestions. Here are some rear break light mounting ideas. I have a Tacoma so I'm using this mount and while it's not what people will say is optimal it works pretty good and I have no need to change it.
  10. Like @back4more70 I’m using a dual-band antenna that performs excellent on 2M/70CM and good enough on GMRS (Comet SBB-5NMO). This has worked well for me. I don’t think this would be an issue as you would only have one connected to a radio at a time. I do find the idea of a switch intriguing. Is there much loss through a switch?
  11. Welcome Martin @WSCD723. If I may I can recommend the HamStudy app for your amateur license studies.
  12. If you are stating this as the problem then as @OffRoaderX has said it won’t. Mobile radios are not allowed to transmit on 8-14 per the FCC. Also when testing between radios make sure you put some distance between them. If they are too close they can cause desensing and won’t work.
  13. I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying here… but I’ll take a shot at some possible answers. Channel 17 is 462.600 and repeater 8 is 462.725 receive and 467.725 transmit so different frequencies won’t hear each other. If what you are saying is that when you call out on one radio and you don’t hear anything on the other when they are on the same channel like 17 you may be too close with your radios, try putting 50’ or more between them as they can desense each other. If you are on a repeater channel they won’t hear each other unless going through a repeater so you need to set the tones of the repeater to operate it. Lastly are you sure there are “others” to talk with? Give this video a watch it may answer your questions if I didn’t.
  14. The owner is @rdunajewski, I find using the contact link located on the map site is best. You can also report your own comment in upper right corner.
  15. Welcome to MYGMRS @WSBT251
  16. I had this happen before when I had dual receive turned on and certain frequencies would mess with others. I think it was on my KG-935G Plus. I don't remember which exact scenario it was that caused this but I don't have dual receive turned on anymore.
  17. No, not right now. I only meant that I program some of my radios the same. I program many of my HT (and mobile) radios the same so if I hear something on one I can easily pick up another and go to the same channel number. For instance if I'm scanning on one of my Ham radios and hear someone calling out on a GMRS channel I can pick up one of my GMRS radios and go to the same channel to respond and vise versa. It also makes for an easy transition if I'm on my mobile and then go to exit the truck while in coversation I can quickly set my HT to continue. I do have a dual band mobile if I want to scan on one side while maintaining the other side.
  18. This sounds like jesting, sarcasm between friends on the surface. My take anyway.
  19. Excellent recommendation. I have my radios set up this way and completely spaced sharing this idea.
  20. That makes since as D20 is also Redlands...
  21. It's listed on their repeater page as a D-Star repeater D20.
