  1. These appear to be FRS radios and as such should not be able to use a repeater per FCC. That said they do seem to be programmable via Chirp and according to the inter webs are the same as a Baofeng BF888 and use the same Chirp programming. A little research and there seems to be some question as to part acceptance??? 16 channels only, so less than a standard bubble pack yet you can program them, so more than your standard bubble pack. If you’re to follow the rules I can certainly see an issue using these with a repeater even if they do such a thing. This person that recommended this setup, did they sell the radios and repeater to you?
  2. Oh yeah, you got the bug. No known cure at this point. I personally don’t think it’s a problem until you can’t remember what you have and even then I may change my opinion on that. You’d think but as a collector myself I’m skeptical
  3. I don’t understand how you came to the conclusion that the printed words from the FCC is one person’s statement.?? Or are you referring to the video posted? Which did have FCC representatives in it but wasn’t from the FCC website. link to FCC, see operations. “You cannot directly interconnect a GMRS station with the telephone network or any other network for the purpose of carrying GMRS communications, but these networks can be used for remote control of repeater stations.”
  4. I agree with @WRQC527 and @WRYZ926. Your SWR is nothing to worry about. I would add that your antenna is a good antenna and do not try to tune it. They come very well tuned out of the box and any tuning would likely ruin it.
  5. If you have both licenses it’s easy enough to accidentally use the wrong call sign. I also have made this mistake before especially talking with a friend who has both licenses also and both a ham repeater and a GMRS repeater in between us. This usually is followed by razing the other for the faux pas.
  6. Definition of a fixed station. Fixed station. A station at a fixed location that directly communicates with other fixed stations only A base station is not a fixed station, neither is your HT. Fixed stations only communicate with other fixed stations. Like a point to point communication. Maybe a com from a gate or something like that.
  7. The repeaters should have different tones set for access if they are near each other. You can program more repeaters in your radio. Repeater channels typically are from 23 to 30, Program the next eight frequencies the same but with different tones as needed and the next eight and so on if you need more.
  8. Welcome to the forum Mike - @WSAA652
  9. This does appear to be the case. I had yet to see it done on GMRS. TRON575BOCA. I stand corrected. Thanks Steve.
  10. Forgive me if I’m telling you anything you know already. Your repeater channels will already have an offset of +5 so no need to set memory to 467.***,. The second issue I see is if they told you to transmit on 467.650 that would be channel 27 or possibly 35 but if you transmit on 467.650 then you are going to receive on 462.650 not 462.575. 462.575 receiving would be a transmit of 467.575. If I recall correctly the UV9G has the first eight repeaters already set so repeater channel for 462.650 = channel 27 and 462.575 = channel 24. I hope that helps.
  11. @WSAN654 check out Deer Meadows repeater. It looks like you may reach it and it is an open repeater. Owner says if you are licensed and use your call sign you are good to go, no request required.

    License Info

I received emails for both GMRS and my Ham license. I would check spam filters if you don't, sometimes that stuff goes where you don't want it to.
  13. You are not wrong Adam. The data capable GMRS radios are suppose to have fixed antennas. But as @WRYZ926 states some got the glue treatment and some did not.
  14. Welcome @WSAD366 and @WSAI800! Cheers for radios and lurker status.
  15. It's still owned by someone and it's their call sign attached to it. Their repeater their rules. I certainly wouldn't go against the wishes of the owner of the equipment I have the privilege of using if they have stated a preference.
  16. I'll jump in here... I'm using the Comet SBB-5NMO, it's about 38" and works pretty great for 2m/70cm and pretty good for GMRS. My previous antenna was the Midland MXT26 Antenna and it works great on GMRS. Just don't try it on 2m.
  17. On simplex it's your radio your choice. However if you are using someone elses repeater then it's the repeater owners choice how they want their repeater used.
  18. Welcome to the forum @WRKH268
  19. You’re are correct. Note to self, drink coffee before responding. Thanks for the catch.️
