You’re gonna want to have the full kit if you’re new. The speaker mic, when properly worn, add the image of a battle hardened GMRS warrior. For maximum effect, wear it over your shoulder from the rear. A tactical type folding antenna will also convey general badassery. Never never visit your local shopping mall without a folding knife, sheath worn only, on the opposite side you carry your holster worn HT. Basketweave sheath will send a stronger message. Finally, none of this works without tactical clothing. 5.11 pants generally work, but buy them big so the butt is saggy. The summer alternative is cargo shorts, worn with Crocs and socks. Now you’re ready. Have condoms ready.

If you want the good looking chicks, you need a belt clip. If you want the REALLY good looking ones, a leather radio holster.

You refer to sending messages between radios, so can we assume the audio transmission works as intended? If so; have you tried the messaging on a simplex channel and if so, does that work? On page 47 of the user manual, it indicates messaging can not be done on channels 23-30, which are the repeater channels as I recall. I returned mine. They charge using USB-A to USB-C. I couldn’t get C-to-C to work either.

I think the OP is over thinking all of this. When I hear 10 codes being used by people, other than public safety professionals, I think “Paul Blart, mall cop”. If you’re really in need of codes, have at it, but plain English works just fine.

Here is what I just posted in a thread about the GMRS-Pro. I may try the 935 as avoiding channel groups would be my preference. I also did not enjoy my “customer service” experience with BTECH via email. Here’s my post: I own two BTECH Ppro handhelds and a half dozen UV-9G handhelds. Lots of Nagoya antennas as I like a 701 & 771 option for each radio. I find programming via Chirp simple on the UV-9G but that isn’t an option on the Pro. The app used for the Pro is fine for using one of the six available channel groups/banks, but I’ve had a lot of frustration getting the other banks programmed. As for BTECH’s “USA based” customer service…. it really sucks. Just this week I reached out via email - the only option for contacting them - and we went back and forth, with lots of runaround and no solution. They actually wanted me to film myself programming so they could see what I’m doing. FFS I asked for a simple call, which likely could have resolved the issue quickly, but they refused to assist in a way that was convenient for me, the customer. I have a Midland mobile 50w unit too and Was seriously considering Baofeng/BTECH mobiles for my other vehicles. Because of the ability to program multiple channel groups. Now, after being several hundred deep in BTECH/Baofeng, I’m ready to sell all of their stuff and stick with Midland, as they actually have a phone number and people willing to help. The products may be fine, the support is terrible.

I went with the Midland 3db “Ghost” antenna, which uses an NMO mount. I didn’t want cables hanging outside my vehicle. You can get a hood / trunk lip mount for an NMO base, but I went all-in and drilled a hole in the roof. When done correctly it’s no worry. Actually, two holes as I installed a Wilson cell booster at the same time.

I’m using the Midland MTX575 in my 4Runner and I’m very pleased. In the mountains of Western Washington State I’m getting decent performance using a roof mounted Midland 3db ghost antenna.

I’m looking for a high end HT and I like the Motorola brand, but I’m wondering how you get those to work on GMRS? Does anyone know if they are compatible with repeater tones? (Split tone?) Any info is appreciated.

Hello folks…. new user here. I just installed the MTX575 in my rig yesterday, along with the hood lip mount and 3db Midland stubby antenna. I plan to relocate the antenna to an NMO roof mount, along with the same for my Wilson WeBoost Drive Reach. Once I figured out how to access the local repeater I was absolutely impressed by this radio. I look forward to adding more radios and getting familiar with local users in the area. So far, it’s been a welcoming and helpful group I’ve encountered.
