What Gives? Why Is The CA-712EFC Perpetually Out Of Stock?
WRPG818 replied to tcp2525's topic in General Discussion
Make sure you waterproof it. -
A shame. I hope they keep the Station ID part of it up because I use that on my Zello Channel with no Radio Traffic

I'm working on getting my Ham now. I passed all the mock test. I know nothing about DMR however.

If "Open System," why the "Request Access" button?
WRPG818 replied to NotARubiksCube's topic in myGMRS.com
I'm taking the side of the repeater owner who wants it to remain private. My point being that the FCC will not help you in any way if you report someone for using your repeater. People take two sides on this. One is that the repeater is private property and the other is it's on the public gmrs channels and the FCC won't do a thing to help you. As far as I know, nobody has ever been fined for talking on a private repeater. I just find it interesting that the FCC doesn't have any way to actually fine anyone that talks on one. -

So please explain to me how they actually disallow someone? The FCC won't go after any licensed GMRS user that talks on a repeater as long as they are not jamming the repeater etc. So someone is using your repeater. You don't allow them to do so. You contact the FCC and you expect them to do what? That's my point on this issue. If you put up a repeater the FCC won't help you if you don't want someone talking on it. -

Opened or closed the FCC said you can't block people from using a GMRS repeater. If you put up a repeater you better expect someone will use it. The FCC will only address issues if someone is causing problems on a repeater, not if they're talking on it however. If I put up a Repeater I wouldn't try to hide it or request people ask to talk on it. We have the Orlando 700 and as long as nobody is blocking transmissions anyone can talk on it. No you don't need permission from the repeater owner to use GMRS frequencies regardless of the repeater being private property. You're not violating private property laws by using a repeater that's on GMRS frequencies. If you want to control who can use your repeater you need a private business (IG) license. GMRS is a shared bases only except those that were grandfathered in years ago. -
Rockland, Bangor, Portland. Many of the lobstermen use GMRS to talk home and other boats in the area.
-
So my question about this system. What could they do if you talk on the North Georgia system if you're not a member.
-
I find more seem to talk in smaller towns. Maine is active.

Zello is great and it's free. We have one for our Community because some don't want to give out phone numbers. We used it during our last Hurricane. You can create your own group and add a password. You can kick people out if they become a problem. You can also send images. it works with your internet or cell phone provider. I would stay away from the Zello Radios, however. The phone app works great

North Carolina GMRS shutting down the linked system. They ran as a non profit.
-
Perhaps the FCC will allow a low-watt node to be used but not allowing a repeater on the system would be a compromise that the FCC would accept. Mine won't transmit beyond a 1/4 of a mile on RF.

According to the FCC meeting that was recorded and shown online they have pending cases around the United States

FCC GMRS Service Operations Page Updated 04 Aug, 2024
WRPG818 replied to WRZU673's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
This would explain why someone gave the heads up to the man running the New York System of things to come. -
So we asked for a clarification and we got it. I'm not happy about it either. It's never been legal, now it explains why the New York network got the heads up before they started looking at enforcing it and shut down. For me, it was just another tool. Zello will work fine all by itself keeping in contact with my New England friends.

It was updated on the 14th with the word internet. Now I'm turning off my node and shutting down my Zello Connection for now.

Battery life isn't great but we used these at our home in Gatlinburg when we went hiking.

Like the radios but the battery life is not that great

KB9VBR Slim Jim GMRS Antenna versus Ed Fong DBJ-UHF GMRS Antenna
WRPG818 replied to WSBR383's topic in Equipment Reviews
I have both of them but moved on to a Comet CA-712EFC. I moved the Ed Fong Antenna to my other house in Gatlinburg, Tenn. It works OK. In Tennensse I have the advantage of being on the top of a mountain so I would expect the Ed Fong Antenna to work. My Comet outperforms both the Ed Fong and the KB9VBR -
I purchased the Radioddity DB-40-G for our local Community radio service. I like it but the software is not very good. I figured it out. It performs as well as the Wouxon 1000g plus.

I think a Node can be great for those who don't have repeaters in the area they live in. Just my two cents. I got one and I'm very happy with it.

Are linked repeater systems about to be shut down?
WRPG818 replied to SvenMarbles's topic in General Discussion
So I'm hearing they had the repeaters linked but not like how others are linking. In the video, he never addressed that but someone I talked to said they didn't link them like mygmrs and gmrslive links them. But someone in my area said this is actually how they proceed with shutting down a system. He believes they linked systems will be told to shut it down. Stay tuned -
Comet CA-712EFC 460-470Mhz base atenna review
WRPG818 replied to arctodus's topic in Equipment Reviews
I'm just south of SeaWorld. Using the Comet CA-712EFC I got the Orlando 700, Orlando 600, Davenport 575, Polk725 in Bartow. The longest Simplex transmission was to someone in Mount Dora. They had 50 mobile and they were located in an open area in a higher elevation area. I can get 20 miles Simplex no problem. I did have the Ed Fong Antenna before this. -
New Radioddity DB40-G GMRS MOBILE RADIO - 40W
WRPG818 replied to WRPL700's topic in General Discussion
I like it but the software needs to be updated. You can label the channels but the function times out so it's not easy. The audio that comes out from the speaker is very loud. When it came to distance it matched my Wouxon 1000G plus with Simplex distance and hitting the repeaters. I had the chance to return it if I didn't like it but I'm keeping it. Never runs hot and very quiet. Scans the channels very quickly. The Microphone is outstanding. Added 3 channels to the memory on the microphone. It can be very confusing to program from the microphone. Also once you label the channels like I did, Orlando 700 etc, if you go back and update the radio via the software it removes the labels. I was getting 48 to 51 watts on mine. I tested it with three different setups and 4 meters yesterday. They all said the same thing. The screen at night is not easy to read. -
