Would this tripod be ok for an antenna mount?

I am assuming you are using this outside on a flat surface temporarily? Being aluminum is perfect for your needs. If you want something more permanent and less expensive use the fence post pushed into the ground.

I'm using a light stand for my discone, which is indoors.

Yep, backyard, set up for the day then back inside at night. Also I'm not sure if the HOA would allow anything permanent so this'll work out great.

Not sure if we can put a flag poll in the backyard or not. From what I'm seen they're more expensive than the tripod and wouldn't be portable. This will be something I can move around and even take with me if I wanted to.

Where there is a will, there is a way. And it is pretty easy to get around HOA restrictions to get an antenna up.

@TNFrank that tripod mast you linked will work great for several types of antennas. It will work fine for different types of dipoles along with sloper EFHW/Random wire antennas. small horizontally polarized Yagi antennas, etc.

About the only types of antennas it will cause issues with are vertical wire antennas. The metal mast will interact with the antenna causing either a change in resonance/SWR or make the antenna hard to tune at all.

Added info. Don't use metal masts for mounting vertical Yagi antennas as the mast will interact with them too.

Yep, that's why I made up a PVC mast for my 2M/70cm vertical and the mast I'm currently using was PVC on the top part for a 70cm Yagi.

This aluminum tripod mast will be for my inverted V dipole HF 10M antenna and later when I get my General license for a 12M inverted V.

I got the tripod today and man is it tall. Should work pretty well for me inverted V dipole and I'll use it as the far end of the EFHW I'm going to make. I'll pug the 64:1 Balun on the 8' ring on the porch then run the wire out to the tripod so it'll be above ground on both ends but also a sloper. I'm going to use 14 gauge wire for it.

If anyone is looking for a decent tripod then for $80 bucks this is a pretty good one.
