WSKP739 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I have an access request or two that have been pending for over a month with no response. Am I to assume access is denied? Quote
Mrsig Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Some times it take a wile for some of the guys to get back to you. They are not on the forum much. HHD1 1 Quote

I would try to reach out to the owners again. One month ago was Christmas which can be very busy time of year. In the meantime, listen to the repeaters in question and if you hear someone politely ask them. WRUU653 1 Quote

No, you are not denied. If you really want a quick response just go ahead and use the repeater and they will quickly tell you are welcome or not. Most repeater owners will cheerfully accept you. nokones Posted February 4 Posted February 4 The repeater that you're trying to access, does the owner list the repeater as "permission required" or "members only". If not, you do not need permission. Quote
WRUE951 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Actually, if the repeater of interest is advertised here as 'Open' you are not denied until the owner put's you on notice to cease. I would use the repater and if the owner pings in and says you are not welcome to use his/her repeater then move onto another. The key is is to not be an idiot while using someone's repeater. Be polite courteous and follow rules. The worst thing is a repeater owner saying no. As a repeater owner myself, if have never told anyone they are not welcome, even to a couple idiots that I have allowed.. Mrsig and SteveShannon 2 Quote
LegitByDefault Posted February 5 Posted February 5 My take may differ from others, but assuming you're licensed I would just key up and find out. Be respectful, monitor the repeater output briefly before transmitting and use your callsign. If you can reasonably attempt to request access through a listing, such as what you can find here, by all means. If you don't get a response within a reasonable amount of time (it's subjective, but generally speaking I think a week or two is reasonable) hit it up and find out. It may not even be active. The listings of repeaters and frequencies aren't always kept up to date, so if the listing hasn't been updated recently I wouldn't expect a response any time soon. If you're using this site to program your radio, be sure to click on the repeater name and scroll all the way down. The owners often comment below the coverage map and other stations comment below that. One thing to keep in mind is that some repeaters are seasonal and/or temporary, mostly due to weather conditions. SteveShannon and WRUU653 2 Quote
TerriKennedy Posted February 7 Posted February 7 The answer is "it depends". I try to answer (and approve) all access requests within 24 hours. Some people take weeks / months to answer, some never answer. I have a pending request to use someone else's repeater (listed here) that has been pending for over 10 months at this point and seems to have aged out of the "my sent requests" . For an area I visited last summer. In case anyone is wondering why, if I approve all requests, my repeater access is marked "by request" - it's so I know who to notify about antenna relocation and an eventual shift to individual repeater access codes.
