Thought someone posted about this earlier in the year, and that it is part 95E compliant. Not that I’m complaining but how about they just focus on the entire GMRS spectrum “ONLY”! The dual band RX only is just a bit much for something one would consider for scanner use! Would be nice to see Motorola step up their game and chime in on GMRS only band

I had one. I was not a fan and sold it to another member here on this forum.

It does have a lot of nice features, but the frequency stability and ability to sustain power levels while transmitting were less than stellar. And the transmit signal is horribly dirty.

I also had 3 of their ham 2m/440 radios all break within a couple of weeks of total time.

I would have kept it as a cheap solution in my Jeep, since I Offroad all the time. However, with the the doors and roof off, the screen washes out 100%. Oddly, the Ham radios didn't have that problem.

OK, let me try this again...

Now that I'm becoming familiar with the Forum and seeing some advertising for portable radios, can anyone "recommend a specific" GMRS portable radio capable of repeater operation?

Snorter had experience with the BTECH 50X1, and offered some "good observations" I found beneficial. Anyone else want to share "experiences / evaluations" of portables that can give more than a one word answer?

A recommendation for any unit used as the output or transmitter half of a repeater will depend on how much use the repeater will expect. The heavier the use, the higher duty cycle rating for the trannie is needed. I haven't seen a consumer grade unit with a duty cycle greater than 20 to maybe 25% or roughly 12 to 15 minutes of transmit time per hour. A commercial unit or a public safety grade unit will have a 30 to 50% duty cycle. These are re-tuned FCC Part 90 certified units which cost several hundred dollars each when new but can be picked up for anywhere between $75 to $200 each on the used market.

This is a pretty good forum. Folks here are easy to get along with, for the most part. There are some other forums out there that would absolutely make you wish you had never heard of the forum if you hijacked an existing thread on your very first post.

Here's a friendly suggestion: instead of coming into a thread about a specific mobile radio to ask an off-topic question, how about starting a thread with a title like "Repeater-Capable Portable Radios" and then ask your question there?

That is why you got a one-word answer. And I can guarantee that one-word answer was more polite than the response such a post would get on some forums.

Welcome to the forum. :)

The specs look better but every one of the UV50 version radios I have tested actually output around 21 watts where the Midland output around 38.

I have 3 of the MXT400s. The all put out about 35 watts RMS, depending on how long they have been on.
