Guest Moore Posted July 24, 2021 Report Posted July 24, 2021 I have a 40 watt GMRS Midland radio with a 32" 6 db antenna and a Ghost 3db antenna mounted to metal on top of the rear tire carrier. The 6 db works great. The 3 db emits constant static on idle. When transmitting or receiving no static and it works fine. I am swapping the antennas to the same mount. This with the engine off or on. I received a second 3 db antenna from Midland and it does the same thing. Would appreciate any thoughts. Quote
BoxCar Posted July 24, 2021 Report Posted July 24, 2021 I would guess the mounting location is the problem. The 32 inch antenna places it above where it is shielded by the vehichle. Quote
djxs Posted July 25, 2021 Report Posted July 25, 2021 I agree with @BoxCar, I think it might be your location. Give it a try and change it up and let us know. Quote
gortex2 Posted July 25, 2021 Report Posted July 25, 2021 Think of the ghost antenna as a rubber duck on your portable. Unless your in range a good signal its going to sound rough Quote
Guest Moore Posted July 26, 2021 Report Posted July 26, 2021 My Jeep has a fiberglass roof, which I did not think would have an effect like a metal roof. Bottom line, issue was due to user error. i turned the squelch from 2 to 4. Problem resolved. Sometimes it is the most obvious answer..... Quote
djxs Posted July 26, 2021 Report Posted July 26, 2021 Alas, the most simple answers are quite literally in front of us. Great investigative work. Quote
