I have a 40 watt GMRS Midland radio with a 32" 6 db antenna and a Ghost 3db antenna mounted to metal on top of the rear tire carrier.  The 6 db works great.  The 3 db emits constant static on idle.  When transmitting or receiving no static and it works fine.  I am swapping the antennas to the same mount.  This with the engine off or on.  I received a second 3 db antenna from Midland and it does the same thing.  Would appreciate any thoughts.

My Jeep has a fiberglass roof, which I did not think would have an effect like a metal roof.  Bottom line, issue was due to user error.  i turned the squelch from 2 to 4.  Problem resolved.  Sometimes it is the most obvious answer.....
