After 5 months on the waiting list, I received notice my KG-UV9GX has shipped.  My order # was in the 130xxx range.  I also ordered the Smiley Slim Line Whip.  Received my Ed Fong DBJ-UHF antenna kit last week.

I completed a CERT program via our county sheriff's office a couple of months ago.  Now studying for my HAM Extra class exam.  Major snowstorm will impact us middle of the week.

Congrats!

I was just looking at a CERT program last week. How was it?

Depends on who offers it.  Our County Sheriff (Minnesota's Ramsey County) runs a first rate program.  We met weekly for 3 hrs per session and took 10 weeks to complete.  I just finished 2 terms on our city council so was well-acquainted with our law enforcement/fire services/county emergency services.  As a retired federal employee I've taken previous courses via FEMA.  I've also done some ARES coursework.

They made no pretense of us ever getting 'called up' to handle a large area disaster (the pros will do that) but we could be called to handle things like crowd control and/or media coordination.  But I did get a nifty backpack w/reflective vest, a green hardhat, flashlight and a multi-tool to close gas mains and break through tempered glass (vehicle rescue).

Worth it.

Thank you for the information. I'm going to do it when I have more time...I've never been in a class or course where I didn't learn something. The program where I am seems to be pretty comprehensive and they also point toward some FEMA online classes that I can take. Thanks again!

so i am just wondering if the difference in the two kg-uv9g pro vs the uv9gx i seen the post by notarubicon and they seem subtle differences' to me and probably have to wait till the end of time for the x version . is it really worth the wait ? as the pro seems to do pretty close to all the same things.

The official list of changes:

NEW UV9GX Features  (Upgrades to the UV9G PRO)

• 3 New Dark Color Screen Modes (Day 1, Day 2 & Covert)
New Priority Channel Quick-Jump Feature (for instant Emergency or Favorite Channel use)
Extended 1.25m “220 HAM Band” RX Range (down to 219 MHz)
Roger Beep (on all freqs. except the repeater inputs)
Bright Flashlight (new LED Lamp with tighter & brighter beam)
Stiff Knobs (to avoid accidental changes, can be loosened if desired)

If none of those are deal-breakers, then the PRO is otherwise the same radio. There is also a slight difference in the L/M/H power levels (see the product page), where the GX has a 2W Mid power, which is a bit more useful when communicating with FRS radios. :)

BTW, I'm going hog-wild here on shipping backorders, so I hope to cut the wait time down in the next month or so. :)

Just got my UV9GX from Mark a couple of days ago.  Appears to have been worth the wait.

It’s not. It’s just like every other ht radio.

It hasn't been backordered like that for over 2 years. I am running 1-2 days slower than normal right now due to a flood of orders, but should have it out in the next day or two, and I guarantee it will be worth the wait. ;) Thanks for your order!

Just got mine and I absolutely love it, I went with the stubby antenna and maybe its my old military days but I prefer 2 knob radios , 1 for channel and 1 for audio. I have other radios but they all use buttons for the channel selections and I'm just more of a fan of these. It will be used at work and as part of my preparedness community. Great radio and I think I will eventually get rid of the others and go with more of these

I just received mine today, I'm still trying to figure it out as far as using it goes. In my opinion it blows the doors off my uv-82hp. Build quality seems excellent!

I'm very happy with my purchase!

Thank You BetterSafeRadio!
