Boatiac
Good morning all I am looking into the Laird Phantom antennas. I'm needing a low profile antenna for when I'm in town (garage height limitations). When on the road traveling I'll switch to a whip. My question is about the different models of the Laird antennas. Does anybody know what the difference is between the TRA 4503 and the TRA4500 (other than price)? Specs seem to show them as the same. WRCZ387
From what I searched, the 4500 is NMO base which is what you want for mobile antenna mounts The 4503 is N female which is usually used for base/fixed locations 73 Boatiac and SteveShannon 1

gortex2
The 4503 is what you want with NMO. With that said manage your expectations. It will work ok on a repeater but is tuned closer to the 460 center channel. Simplex will vary on coverage. I run it on my work truck but only use it when i'm talking to the guy following me or on a trunked radio system. If you have a great repeater it will work better than an HT in the vehicle but again manage what you feel it will do. LAIRD
WRCZ387
My goof, when I searched, I didn't look at all the results well enough I quoted the N connector for a TRA4503P I did see the detail about the ground plane being necessary I was getting ready for work when I was reading the forums & responded, I rushed & I goofed I apologize for my mistake wayoverthere
