Wouxun KG-1000G Plus Faceplate Mounting

Question

Posted

Recently got my hands on a KG-1000G Plus and want to mount it in my 2021 Ram 1500 to replace my Midland MXT575.  I have a Bulletpoint Mounting RubiGrid with three ball mounting points.  Bulletpoint does not have an adapter for the KG-1000G+ (however I have asked them to develop one) so I am looking for a way to mount the faceplate on the dash.  Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

What kind of mounting plate does the kg1000g use?

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking either using one of the dual socket arms and screwing the camera post ball into the faceplate's mounting plate.

Other than that, will the phone mount go small enough to work?

Same radio here,  I have the RAM ball mounts left over from a motorcycle handlebar project... they make all kinds https://rammount.com/pages/components

Some folks used a cup holder mount.  Mine is in a 22 Chev PU.   Used the KG 1000+ flat plate and mounted directly to one ball head.  Installed a second head on the console with a arm that swivels to any position you like.   I'm sure there are some knock-offs now.  I'd post a picture but the truck is in the shop.

Something on my to-do is to add an RJ-45 coupler just behind the head where I can unplug the cable running to the base under the seat.

Google found me a couple other options that aren't directly using the bulletpoint mount...

Panavise appears to have a few options depending on the details of the truck (and dash screen)

Proclips also has a couple for left or right side of the dash near the HVAC vents.

I added a couple shots from my truck (ham setup); this is the icom mounting plate on a panavise bracket that tucks in between the HVAC controls and the trim.

Appreciated everyone. I have a few ideas now to explore and see what to create.  Once I have a solution, I will post pics here for others to see with links to the products I use.

I like this set up. I used 3m tape to mount mine to the dash "pad" but I don't like the placement as the left of the display is blocked by the steering wheel at times. I already have a proclip type mount that I think I'm going to utilize when I forgot out a secondary phone mount solution.

Might want to look at the Ram Mounts as an option.  I'm using various lengths swivel arms on the "B" sized balls and the RAM Cans in my center console cup holders for my Radio Control Head and Rand McNally Navigation TND740 System and a suction cup on the windshield with two long swivel arms with a double ball joint for my cellphone holder.

I went with a little bit more expensive setup thru 67 Designs along with a BuiltRightIndustries dash mount.  Since I was getting some arms for a phone/device/GPS unit holder, I ordered some other parts to help mount the KG-1000G + face plate.  I will need to mod the face plate just a tad with extra holes, or over size the current holes.

I just got all the parts in to do the work so no pics right now.  I will post a link to the specific mount I'll be using for the faceplate.

This is the mount:

Using this ball mount :

With this dash mount (vehicle specific) :

The dash mount style is pretty common just depends on the manufacturer.
