Need help loading a repeater station to Wouxun.

SUPERSTAR

Question

I have a Wouxun kg uv9g and have my gmrs licence, found and got approved to a specific repeater in area. Got their frequency and input/

output tone. Can anyone be so kind on instructions and  on how to put a repeater station on? Step by step would be awesome. Thank you in advance. Really new to devise.

Can input without programming cable?

I don’t have a UV9G so I cannot provide step by step instructions, but I can provide the basics:

1. Tune to the correct channel.  There are a limited number of repeater channels and they are pre-programmed into the UV9G.

2. Set that channel’s squelch type to “Tone” rather than “Tone Squelch” which is commonly shown as TSQL.

3. Set the transmit tone to match the UPLINK tone the repeater requires.

4. Do not set program a receive tone, at least at first.  That and step #2 will leave your receiver accessible to any transmissions.

That’s it.  Your instruction manual should have step by step instructions for each of the above steps.

Welcome to the forums!  Best wishes!

You'll definitely not want to be on the straight GMRS channel, but on the GMRS repeater channel. Your radio should come with 8 of these programmed in already. Just tune to the correct one (there are plenty of charts online to tell you what GMRS repeater channel matches what frequency). Also, I'm guessing that if your radio is like a lot of others, the menu setting that you need to program the tone into is TX CTCSS (or it might say TX CTCS, but either way it's the same thing). Just plug the tone in there and save it.

Did you purchase your UV9G from BetterSafeRadio with their default SHTF memory channel programming?

If yes,
1. Go to channel memory mode displaying channel name for the A or B band. To do this, long press the TDR/V/M button which will cycle through VFO mode (no channel number on right), memory mode displaying channel number, memory mode displaying channel frequency, and memory mode displaying channel name.
2. Tune to one of the pre-programmed repeater memory channels with the matching transmit frequency for the repeater that you are trying to connect to. The pre-programmed repeater channels have an “r” in front of the channel number, such as GMRSr17 or GMB r15.
3. Press the menu key and use the up/down buttons or channel knob to go to menu# 17 (Tx-CTC) to enter the CTCSS receive code for a repeater using CTCSS tones or to menu# 19 (Tx-DCS) for a repeater using the DCS tones. Press Menu button to enter the menu item and use up/down keys or channel knob to select the proper tone that matches the repeater information.
4. Press Menu button again to save the tone information and exit back to the top menu.
5. Press Exit button to leave menu and return to operation mode.

If you want to add the repeater transmit code to your radio, follow the same steps as setting the Tx-CTC or Tx-DCS codes, but instead use menu# 16 (Rx-CTC) for CTCSS tones or menu# 18 (Rx-DCS) for DCS tones. This will make your radio only break squelch when it receives the signals on the repeater’s transmit frequency with the corresponding tones and will ignore the other traffic that may be on that frequency.

If you want to program multiple repeaters into your memory, I highly recommend picking up a programming cable and downloading the software to program the radio using your PC.

Hope this helps.

Brian
