Im part of a huge radio club, and many of them use chirp. They have also never had a problem with chirp. This statement most likely is a user error. Maybe you don’t know how to use chirp? Many gmrs operators don’t have a bunch of money to spend. Many are very happy with their $20radios and chirp for programming. Some people are just upset because they spent waaaay more money for the same outcome and have to bash free software. Remember a $20 5watt hand held transmits just as far programmed with chirp than a $5000 Motorola hand held programmed with expensive software. For about $300 a better quality 870 channel radio (Motorola XTS2500) with a ton more features that Chinese junk don't have can be had with a lot less headaches in programming and use. That Radio can be had with the programming cable and the CPS and the radio also comes with belt clip, speaker mic, charger, and battery. This about $300 radio package will last a lot longer and be supported than a chinese junk radio. SteveShannon and gortex2 2 Quote
Omenduck Posted October 22 Report Posted October 22 So I have a TD-h8 (Just got it/ First radio) and I thought it was me just having problems, I can connect to HAM Channels or have, one local repeater... No GMRS however, now I found this thread and I have the same firmware version... any way to revert it back to an older version? Quote

This about $300 radio package will last a lot longer and be supported than a chinese junk radio. I have a whole bunch of Motorola professional radios both hand held and mobiles. But most people are not going to be able to learn Motorola cps soft ware. They also don’t want to/can’t afford $300 for one radio that has many features they don’t need and won’t use. However most people can and do afford $20 for a radio that transmits and receives exactly the same as that $300 radio. And most people can afford free chirp software and a $15 cable. So I’d venture to say ccr’s and what gmrs and even ham is built on. Most gmrs users will never need more than a junker ccr and no one will ever notice the difference. It’s like people that drop 100k on a jeep they don’t use. While others drive $2500 trucks on trails each and every day. Some have money to burn for no reason and some like to play every day with many hobbys with limited income. I’d bet a bunch of money the ccr/$2500 users have more fun more often. Quote

Do you have a ham license to be “connecting” what ever that means to a ham repeater? The h8 is a radio that can be ham or gmrs but not both at the same time. You’re going to need to reset the radio to gmrs. The manual has the info. Quote

No, I don't, already been scolded for that one thank you and, transmit and receive I should have said. I have it unlocked at the moment but tried both and that's how I know I can transmit out, just not GMRS, haven't been able to transmit to repeaters or simplex Quote
kurgen99 Posted November 22 Report Posted November 22 I had the same problem with a TD-H8 purchased on November 11. The Odmaster software sets the RX and TX frequency the same. Odmaster could be a cool feature, but I gave up and just spent a little time figuring out Chirp. The only thing I did not try was using Chirp to program the radio and then writing that to Odmaster, and then writing it back to the radio to see if the same frequency error was just a typo or something and the radio would work normal anyway. Odmaster would be an easy way to switch profiles, and switch between HAM and GMRS, assuming OF COURSE that you had your ticket, which I intend to acquire. Quote
LeoG Posted November 23 Report Posted November 23 ODMASTER works fine on the H3. I'm surprised it doesn't work on the H8 Quote
