PBRStreetGang
I'm hitting a repeater network that I can hear near Casper, but which has traffic all the way into Montana. Calling in on simplex, I'm told that its a system linked into the internet. A couple of questions. One, I don't grasp how this works. Two, is anyone familiar with this network? I'd like to join it, if I could figure it out. Sorry for the simple-minded questions.

WSDU951
Hello, We are new to GMRS. In Billings. We Boondock around here, and wish to communicate with each other in the mountains. Hoping to connect to repeaters in the area, and network with others. Good day, WSDU951

Pretty interesting if you ask me.. Laugh all you want Randy, but I'll take the last one. I can understand there concerns, especially when they can see for themselves data supporting well over 100's of links.. Go get you a bag of popcorn from Sam's and STFU... Good day, WSDU951 When you say you hope to network with others, do you mean people or network linked repeaters? I took your statement “network with others“ to mean you would like to meet other people who have an interest in GMRS.

What the actual f are you talking about? He's not talking about linking. The guy just wants to talk to people in the area. I am unable to find any such FCC rule that prohibits the linking/networking of GMRS repeaters, base and fixed stations. WSDU951
Correct. My statement “network with others“ means we would like to meet other people who have an interest in GMRS. Not "linking", whatever that means... Sorry to create such a confukulation. SteveShannon and WRUU653

More to come And you don't want linked GMRS repeaters why? During disasters linked systems are invaluable. All the lined systems I have heard are very well run except for the GMRS Linked Network which allows cursing and adult content (there are kids listening). On the other hand Midwest GMRS is EXCELLENT! Nets prepare users for disasters. Stand alone repeaters in rural areas sit unused, a good example is Iowa. You can listen for days to several repeaters in Des Moines and hear no one. It seems there is always someone who wants to ruin a good thing, be it a jammer or complainer. gortex2

Follow the rules. if you want to play with Linked repeaters, get into HAM.. These illegal linked repeaters are hogging up bandwidth... The question wasn’t about linked repeaters or if they were legal or not. He said he was told that the system was linked that’s it. The question was about contacting people in a particular area. Not every thread needs to be a debate about linking. Funny thing is I am not a fan of the idea of linking GMRS but come on we don’t need every thread hi jacked to the subject.
