No different than constructing an apartment building and renting out units. Plus if it's near an urban area or downtown, Parking Lot for extra income! Quote
The219 Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 The public frequencies are free. You can transmit on simplex without incurring a charge using the hardware you own. If you want to use a privately owned repeater then you either need to have permission from the owner or pay the membership fee / dues of the club. Complaining that a privately owned repeater should be free to use is just plain dumb. Would you let a stranger off the street drive your car on public streets because it free to drive on public streets. if you're upset about it, go set up your own repeater and open it to the public. Is it different than similar practice in HAM? (These questions are prompted by comments in various threads here.) No trash posting please; if you don't care, ignore. True, under FCC Part 97 Rules and Regulations, an Amateur Radio Station is forbidden from excepting compensation for using Amateur Radio Service. I'm sure that the case FCC Part 95 D & 95 E... However, I think the FCC made an exception for long term crisis, but that only for First Responders that are licensed. Mean you can relay messages from EOC to Hospital. You just can't use Amateur Radio Service for normal communication. Quote
