Midland gxt 67 pro won't charge

New Midland gxt 67 pro not charging after being left on and going dead. It's had about 5 charging cycles. Lights up in charger and shows it's charging. Been charging for 5 hours but radio will not turn on. Thank you for any help.

Put a voltmeter on the battery to see if it’s still capable of accepting a charge. What’s the voltage?

If it’s up around or above 7.7 volts it’s likely that either the battery isn’t being installed correctly or the contacts are bad or the radio has failed.

Nearly all of the questions about that are asked here involve radios that are new and still under warranty.  People suspect they’re doing something incorrectly so they reach out to what should be a friendly group of peers.

This radio has a built in battery and antenna. Two things that make it a no go for me. I wanted to like this radio when it first came out.

If in fact it has no low voltage cut off protection then you will have to be extra careful and that makes the non removable battery issue even worse. It sounds like call to Midland is in order. Personally I would return it and get a different radio, but I need a removable antenna and  batteries that can be swapped for my usage. YMMV.

More likely the battery is bad from being over discharged as it probably doesn't have a low voltage cutoff.

On a brand-new battery?  Not saying you are wrong, just asking how probable that is on a new battery?

One of the many issues with midland is most of the ht radios do not have a low voltage cut off.   The only battery management is in the charger for over charge but that is it.    Even a $20 “ccr” has low voltage cut off built into the pack.   
 

however and I hope this is the case maybe the battery is just not all the way in the radio or charger.

It seems to be charging. 

It's pretty sad an expensive radio like this has no protection agains

 

 

t low discharge. One other disadvantage is the battery is not easily replaceable. Hopefully Midland will step up and replace it if not fixable.

By the way just noticed the charger is not getting warm while the radio is charging.

Contacted Midland also. They are sending out a new radio asap. great service that you do not see much these days.
