WRUE951
So I wake up this morning i get an alarm from my repeater. (High SWR) So i go to check out what's going on.. My antenna (Hustler G6-450) is buckled sitting at 2 o-clock.. What the hell????? Then at the base of the mast I see a bunch of large black bird feathers, but no bird, just feathers, looking like Raven feathers... So it looks like a G*d D*mn bird hit my antenna and destroyed it ($500 bucks).. I have never ever heard this happening... Mind Blowing.. Now i'm looking to re-order and i'm seeing everyone charging nearly $200 for shipping on these things.. WTH.. Sipping cost really that high.. Looks like its time for a trip to Vega.. WRYZ926
I have not seen that happen but I have seen a buck get tangled up in guy ropes and take an antenna mast down. SteveShannon

That's some crazy stuff! I am sorry for the loss of your old antenna. When your new antenna comes in, here is some music to assemble it by. All together not bad. I'm thinking about going with a Laird FG450 and also looking at other choices since I'm in the market. Comet is a lot cheaper but warred about the winds we get here. Gigiparts if very limited on their antenna supply. gortex2

Haven't found one on Prime yet but I'm looking. Raybestos
WSFG777
Call Hustler, they should be happy to sell you individual replacement parts, all cut to fit. It’s standard practice for antenna manufacturers to sell the parts, usually all the part numbers are in the owners manual. Years ago someone gave me an old 2m Ringo with a broken center insulator, and I bought the replacement part for a few bucks. If buying parts from Hustler fails, maybe you can straighten the wire and “Max Gain Systems” sells fiberglass tubing. hope that helps, Joe K1VW SteveShannon

I also tried taking a one foot section of 1 inch PVC conduit and wedging it down over the bent section.... It did support the damaged area very well but didn't work for the internal damage - still bad SWR. I'm gonna digest the antenna to see how it is built. in the meantime i think im gonna go with a Laird FG4607.. Hard to find a seller not charging arm and leg for shipping.. For right how I'm using an old home brew J-Pole i had and it's actually doing pretty good.... Getting 1:2 across the GMRS Band and talked with someone in 9-mile canyon, about 45 miles out.. I bought my Laird/ TE connectivity FG4607 from Mouser. 249 ish dollars. Shipping was 9.95! I apparently bought the last one in stock and it got here the day before the hurricane arrived. It is an excellent antenna...that varies wildly in price!

You scored! that is the best price i've seen for that antenna and the shipping cost, $9.00 is crazy low. The lowest i found was $80 bucks shipping.. I actually called them to order, he sad they have couple dozen on order and that they sell a lot of these.. Defiantly the best place to grab a good antenna.. They also sell quality connectors at crazy low prices.. I'll be buying a few things from these folks.

WRUE951
Hustler Antennas said it can't be fixed.. Well, its fixed and better than the factory fiberglass shell. One inch pipe fits like it was meant to be and a taper to 3/4 inch finishes it .. Back to business. amaff
