WSEW367 Posted November 17 Report Posted November 17 Hello, new GMRS user who wants to connect to a local repeater. 1. The repeater page says channel 462.675 Is that the out or the in? It does not say anything about another channel. 2. It says to use the same tone in and out 173.8, I assume that is acceptable? 3. I have a Wouxon 1000 plus, what channel is that on my radio? Thank you in advance for your assistance. Mark. WSEW367 Quote

So it’s sometimes known as the repeater output frequency. If you use a GMRS radio the offsets are automatically set. On GMRS you always transmit on 467.xxx MHz frequencies and receive on 462.xxx MHz frequencies when you use a repeater channel. Disregard user socalgmrs. He’s having a bad day. Apparently he feels better about himself when he’s scolding new people. Feel free to ask questions. Welcome to the forum. WSEW367, WSEZ, WRUU653 and 1 other 2 1 1 Quote
2 OffRoaderX Posted November 17 Report Posted November 17 You dont have to worry about "in or out" on a GMRS radio .. just look at the last 3 digits after the period, in this case 675 to determine what channel to use Yes - but OUT (RX) is optional and only blanks-out any other people on the channel that aren't using the repeater so you dont have to hear them It will be "RPT20" or, channel 28 kidphc 1 Quote

0 koni13 Posted November 19 Report Posted November 19 Just picked up a set of UV 15 Pro GMRS radios. I frequently pick up receptions on people talking based on line of sight. My question to enable communicating via repeaters do I need to set up or program R/T CTCSS codes to talk and receive? Understanding many of the frequencies are preset for GMRS, making sure I don't screw up the presets enabled per factory on radios. Quote

Understanding many of the frequencies are preset for GMRS, making sure I don't screw up the presets enabled per factory on radios. The codes are really filters that exclude transmissions not having the matching code. They don't offer "privacy" as any transmission can be heard by not using the filter code. Repeaters use input codes, t-ctcss, to limit the signals it retransmits. The R-CTCSS code in your radio screens all traffic not matching the code, but it's not really needed for receive. Having no receive code means you hear everything transmitted on the channel. So yes, you need to set the T-CTCSS but the receive is optional. koni13 1 Quote
