XPR8300 setting TX interval and Mix Mode Timer for CWID on GMRS

Question

Posted

Hi all, and thanks in advance for any help here.

Trying to set up my XPR8300 for us as a GMRS repeater.  Using MOTOTRBO CPS 16.0 (Build 828).  What values should be entered in the TX interval and Mix Mode Timer for CWID on GMRS?  Can't seem to get the timing setup to behave as I was expecting it to.  Thanks again for any help here.

You’re required to ID every 15 minutes when transmitting.

I understand that. The real question is, will the settings in the screen shot in the original post achieve this on the XPR8300?

If I am interpreting Motorola's description of these fields properly I think it will.

I have worked with CAT and ARCOM controllers before so the Motorola set up is new to me.

Thanks  73,

Thomas

I should also mention that if you have really old XPR8300 firmware, setting up your channel in Dynamic Mixed Mode will NOT allow for CWID to go out at all via the repeater.  Set up a single channel as analog only - remove/delete any DMM channel, and CWID should work.

If you plan to use it for GMRS, you probably shouldn't be using mixed mode. If you truly want to use DMM, you shouldn't be using a first generation XPR8300. Those had limited feature sets and limited memory. The later XPR8400 was the improved version.

I have Both 8300 and 8400. I would suggest to get the CPS2.0 for use with the repeater.  Best thing though is to make sure you also have wide bandwidth available on the Repeater or those keying in will be really funky with the sound. You would only get the full value out of Dynamic Mixed mode if you were conducting both digital and analog. The CWID keying PL strip is suggested and have it set to 14 mins interval. Test and test. I have read that if its quiet for a period of time it wouldn't transmit. Also are you using it at full power or do you have an amp thats inline for the 50 watt?

You can also setup an free Motorola Solutions account. Works great when you need to add features on to the radio. The only kicker is in my case I want the Dynamic Mix mode for my software to allow that feature and its almost the price I paid for one repeater.

Good information.

We have always used external controllers for our 2m and 70cm Motorola repeaters so I definitely would not be any help to the OP here. We were using Allstar nodes as controllers but are switching over to Arcom RC-210 controllers. We recently upgraded the 2m repeater with a Motorola Quantar and RC-210 and the combo is working well for us.

In fact, we are in th process of programming a second Arcom RC-210 for one of our 70cm repeaters and will also be connecting our Bridgecom GMRS repeater to it. We have issues with the Bridgecom's built in CW ID not transmitting with a tone and also cutting people off when it transmits. The only solution for that is to use an external controller.
